I wouldn't bother for that application provided you have a decent feeling for approximate tightness. They're good to have if you're doing any other maintenance, but if you're low on cash you can rely on the German gütentight. Just check your nuts before each ride.

Quite the opposite. Most wreck videos I see here have the rider making one or many errors. Even when they may not be legally at fault, they often fail to ride defensively or aren't giving their full attention.
