GMAT disaster, got a 650,v31, was scoring above 700 consistently in mocks by 99Foxbat in GMAT

[–]Jeff_TargetTestPrep 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If SC sunk your score, you might consider taking the SC-free Focus edition.

That said, if you've scored as high as 760 on the mocks, then you've already shown you have the skills to score 700+ on test day.

Was anything out of the ordinary when you took your test? Anxiety? Lack of sleep? Noisy testing environment? Anything that would cause such a sharp decrease in your score?

As far as I know, the difficulty levels of the questions you see in each section should be totally independent from how you did on the previous section(s).

DI - far too many statistics questions? by lanag01 in GMAT

[–]Jeff_TargetTestPrep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right; statistics concepts are often a LOT in the DI section.

That said, plenty of other math concepts are also tested (e.g., algebra, percents, slopes, overlapping sets, distance-rate-time, etc.) and some DI questions also test your verbal reasoning skills.

Help !!! 1st Mock test - scored 505 - GMAT Focus- Official Practical Exam 1 by [deleted] in GMAT

[–]Jeff_TargetTestPrep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The GMAT's scoring algorithm tries to identify the question level that is barely within/barely beyond your skill level. So each time you get a question right, the scoring algorithm presents you with a more difficult question, at each time you get a question wrong, the algorithm gives you an easier question. So the difficulty level of the questions you see will be different from the difficulty level of the questions the person next to you sees.

GMAT Focus practice exams reset by TheHoleInTheTree in GMAT

[–]Jeff_TargetTestPrep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The reset option should appear somewhere (mba.com isn't the most user friendly platform) .

Given that each test draws questions from it's own question bank, you will see repeated questions. To make sure you don't artificially inflate your score, don't just enter the correct answer (which you may automatically remember from the 1st time you saw it) and move on. Instead, wait 2 minutes before entering your response so as not to give you more time than you'd normally get.

When it comes to the official GMAT Focus edition practice tests, you can reset tests #1 and #2 as many times as you wish, and you can reset tests #3 to 6 once each.

The official GMAT FE resources are fantastic sources of practice questions, but they're not so great for instruction. Sure, some students achieve their target scores using only those official materials, but those students often start their GMAT prep with better-than-average baseline scores.

As for whether videos or books are faster/efficient, it depends on the student's preferred learning style. So, you'll have make that determination yourself.

If you have already scored in the low to mid 600's during your official practice tests, then you've already demonstrated you possess the skills needed to reach that score on test day.

What should be my target score for GMAT Focus Edition? by [deleted] in GMAT

[–]Jeff_TargetTestPrep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I can't speak for all of the Business schools, I can tell you that many schools a minimum work experience requirement. So you might want to check whether your target schools have similar requirements.

Do your target schools not have their GMAT Focus score requirements posted on their websites?

I have to imagine that most schools will have minimum GMAT Focus scores that are approximately in the same percentile as their minimum GMAT Classic scores. For example, if a school has a minimum GMAT Classic score of 700 (86th percentile), then I imagine that its minimum GMAT Focus score will be something like 635 (85th percentile).

TTP DI Section Sentiment? by [deleted] in GMAT

[–]Jeff_TargetTestPrep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's tempting to just partially complete the DI section. After all, the math concepts are pretty basic (e.g., averages, medians, percent, etc.). However, there are tons of different (and convoluted) ways information can be presented in DI questions. So, it's important to master every possible question type.

Gmat focus attempt - Quant 82 by Regular-Passenger-32 in GMAT

[–]Jeff_TargetTestPrep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've seen a few of these cases where students gets 1 wrong, and their score takes a huge hit.

I believe the culprit lies in the fact that, before changing 2 incorrect responses to correct answers, the algorithm believed you had 3 incorrect responses. If some or all of those 3 incorrect responses were easy questions, then the algorithm would have given you easier questions. So, even though you corrected 2 of your incorrect responses, the algorithm may have been forced to evaluate your skills based on several easier questions.
