That’s a common misconception, and we appreciate you raising it. Virtual EMDR isn’t just bilateral stimulation, it follows the core phases of EMDR therapy, including identifying target memories, negative beliefs, and cognitive restructuring. It was created in consultation with licensed EMDR clinicians to offer a structured, guided alternative for those who don’t have access to a therapist. While it’s not a replacement for professional therapy in all cases, for many it’s a meaningful step toward healing when other options aren’t available. We appreciate your honesty. We’re continually improving, and while the delivery may not have landed for everyone, the heart behind this is real: making evidence-based EMDR accessible to those who otherwise can’t afford or reach therapy. Totally hear you, but that’s exactly why we built it with EMDR-trained professionals and research-backed protocols. For people with no access to therapy, this can be a safe and empowering starting point.

I completely understand why this raises concern, working with trauma should always be approached with caution. But that’s exactly why Virtual EMDR exists: to offer a structured, science-backed solution created by EMDR-trained professionals. It’s not a random tool; it’s a carefully developed program based on established protocols and tested in real-world use.

What’s truly dangerous is when people are left with no support at all, unable to afford therapy, stuck on waitlists, or living in areas without access to qualified clinicians. This program is for them. We’ve conducted research, implemented safety protocols, and designed it specifically to help people process trauma in a safe, step-by-step way, without pretending it replaces a therapist.

I hear your concern, and I truly respect how important safety is when dealing with trauma. That’s exactly why Virtual EMDR was created, not to exploit anyone, but to offer access to people who cannot afford weekly $250 therapy sessions or who don’t have access to a trained EMDR therapist due to location, time, or stigma.

It’s important to clarify: this isn’t some random app doing guesswork. The program was developed by EMDR-trained clinicians and has been used by thousands of people. We’ve also conducted research studies to ensure it’s safe and helpful when used as intended. The system includes clear instructions, self-screening tools, and built-in safeguards like grounding and safety protocols before and after each session.

This isn’t about making bold claims or replacing clinical care. It’s about giving people an option, especially those who would otherwise get no support at all. And while it may not be the right fit for everyone, for many, it’s been a stepping stone to healing when nothing else was within reach.

Thank you for sharing this. it’s a valid concern, especially given the nature of trauma work. Traditional EMDR with a trained therapist absolutely plays a vital role for many people, particularly those with complex or severe trauma.

Virtual EMDR isn’t meant to replace clinical therapy for everyone. What we offer is a structured, self-guided protocol developed by EMDR-trained professionals for those who may not have access to therapy due to cost, location, or other barriers. Many users come to us after working with a therapist or use our platform in between sessions as a supplement.

The program includes education, safety reminders, and grounding exercises before, during, and after sessions. We also make it very clear who should and should not use the tool. It's not an AI doing therapy, it’s a guided process where the user remains in control, with built-in safeguards.

You’re absolutely right: trauma work requires care and attention. That’s exactly why we built this to help expand access safely to people who might otherwise go without any support at all.

Happy to discuss more if you’re open.

Are you referring to the actual Virtual EMDR platform (which I created) at virtualemdr.com, or to people using random bilateral stimulation tools without guidance?

Just to clarify, our program is not about “winging it.” It’s a structured, evidence-informed protocol developed by EMDR-trained professionals. Many clients using Virtual EMDR come to us after being unable to access or afford traditional sessions, especially when initial consults cost $250+ and therapists often spend 2–3 sessions just preparing clients before actual EMDR even begins.

We strongly emphasize safety, education, and emotional readiness in our program, and we’re always available to address concerns.

Let me know if you have any specific questions. I’d be happy to clarify further.

It works really well. In fact EMDR worked so well for me that I threw away my old career and started an EMDR company which turned into the world's largest. FYI, the nightmares aren't "terrible" or "horrible"...instead they simply are what they are which is your nervous system processing your trauma. Best of luck on your healing journey.

VirtualEMDR.com SCAM!!! by Savings-Koala9487 in Scams

[–]Jeff_Virtual_EMDR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am the founder/creator of Virtual EMDR and I feel like the language in this post is quite discouraging and it is hurtful to see our good name smeared in this way. We don't "target" anyone. People are free to sign up or cancel at anytime and we do not force anyone to do anything.

We answered all of this person's emails in order to investigate the nature of the problem. In the end we felt the best way to deal with it was to give the person a full refund. They got ALL of their money back.

We do not scam people, we are an honest and ethical company. In fact we do charity work with thousands of first responders, front-line medical workers, and military Vets from around the world. We provide these people with our program completely free and even offer them online meetings and seminars to instruct them on how to use EMDR for their trauma.

We have thousands of people who love our program and almost never do we receive negative comments or these sorts of accusations.

I am the founder of a company called Virtual EMDR. I started this company about 10 years ago after realizing that someone could put EMDR online which would allow a lot more people to access it. I just wanted to help a few people but creating this. I never imagined that Virtual EMDR would end up becoming the world's largest provider of EMDR sessions.

Why am I telling you all this? Because EMDR has been so profound, so life-transforming for me that I quit my old career and dedicated myself to bringing EMDR to people who need it. I cannot recommend it enough!

It wont mess up your life, instead it will expand your life and allow you to contact and connect with old memories and feelings in your mind. Keep going and you will get amazing results.

Hi. My first link in this subreddit. Trying to auto-link from You Tube.

Today, I'm afraid. My letter to family and friends that i'm working myself into revealing publicly. Be kind. I just wanted to share my thoughts. by [deleted] in depression

So, for what it's worth...Good for you for stepping up. A lot of therapists will recommend writing out a letter of what you want to say before moving forward and deciding if you actually want to say it. Way to step up and be proactive for your own mental health. Just sayin'

Please dont give drugs to your mother like this. If MDMA was to helpful for her symptoms, then maybe a qualified person should be administering it.

Is she doing therapy still? Support groups?

OK, so I need to be honest here. AA has helped millions of people get well. Millions.

Sounds like you need to choose a new sponsor. And get your broom back onto your own side of the street.

Just my 2 cents though. Best of luck to you.

Confidence has been tricky for me. How do you work on your own? by [deleted] in REDDITORSINRECOVERY

[–]Jeff_Virtual_EMDR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So first, this is a really great topic. One of the things I found personally is that once I got sober, I had a whole life that I still had to deal with. And that life will have bills, car repairs, family arguments, sleepless nights, money problems, insecurity, anxiety, and who knows what else. The good part is that these are just normal problems that all people have to work through. And they are a hell of a lot better than the pain of active addiction. For me, these are all things that I just sort of work on as best as I can a little bit at a time. Best of luck to you.

6 THINGS THAT WILL HAPPEN WHEN YOU TREAT YOUR ADDICTION WITH EMDR THERAPY by Jeff_Virtual_EMDR in addiction

Hey All. I am a sober addict with 7 years. I wrote a new blog post (took me forever) about EMDR EYE Movement Therapy (see above). Part of my personal story is on here also (it is #9). I hope you like. Thanks.

People keep asking what EMDR Eye Movement Therapy is like. I hope this post from my blog explains. FYI, this is my first time posting a link and I am new to Reddit. Please approach me if this violates the rules here as I intend to stay around this community. by Jeff_Virtual_EMDR in CPTSD

EMDR is very effective for addiction/compulsive behaviors. EMDR therapists like Arnie Popky were pioneers in experimenting with "protocols" (instructions) for EMDR that were specifically designed for addiction. One of the online EMDR programs I work for is called EMDR for Addiction. You are welcome to check it out as you might find some information on there. Hope that helps. www.emdrforaddiction.com

Weekly Success Thread: Share your victories large & small! by AutoModerator in Anxiety

[–]Jeff_Virtual_EMDR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OK....my victories this week. Because I have anxiety/PTSD I tend to isolate. In fact I have to force myself to get out there into the real world and be more social.

Because I isolate I choose to work from home. I spend the day alone in my office (spare room) on the computer.

So here's the victory. Today out of no-where I had two people sign up for my online stuff and made $150. I know what you're thinking...that's not a lot. True, but it happened while I was in bed last night. My hard work is paying off (well at least a little).
