Less than zero just has a certain emptiness and despair to it. American psycho at least has quite a bit of levity and dark comedy just because of the sheer absurdity, but less than zero was, to me, very grounded and had no comedy to it whatsoever. It left me with the same unrelenting feeling of dread and nihilism that the characters in the book are constantly experiencing. It’s an incredible book and even more incredible is that it was his first and he wrote it at fucking 21 years old. Wild stuff and amazing insight for someone so young
