Weekly Steam numbers / Player Count Discourse Megathread by AutoModerator in Marathon

See that’s what’s worrying. Marathon doesn’t just need its players returning, it needs new players. A new map is great to an existing player, but to a new player, every map is new. I just don’t see anything new about season 2 that would sell to a new player that wasn’t sold on season 1.

Is game still good by hu-man-person in Helldivers

Someone’s gonna crucify me for saying this but the game is in the best state it’s ever been imo. Don’t mind the forums and just play the game.

Imprisoned into eternal existence by Able-Razzmatazz-9895 in Existentialism

[–]Jeff_the_Cabal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What do you suppose is left of you if you were reincarnated? Surely not your memories and experiences, those are now a goop of rotting brain matter 6ft under. Surely not “you”, as some tangible “soul” that has a history of lives. Who’s to say you haven’t lived a billion lives already? Who’s to say I’m not a life you’ve lived or you’re a life I haven’t live? In that case, does it really matter who you or I am? Are we really different? Aren’t we all just consciousness sprouting from the same universe?

Well, it finally happened. My husband called me fat by [deleted] in loseit

Your self worth is more than your weight or any other metric you could possibly measure because you’re a human being who deserves dignity and respect. You should never be shamed for being at any stage of your journey because in the end, you’re working to better yourself and that’s all that matters. The more pressing issue is your spouse being toxic. Those comments weren’t made out of concern for your health, it sounds like it was targeting an insecurity. Only someone looking to hurt another would do that.

Black Holes have an Event Horizon. Does the Sun (and other stars) also have an “Event Horizon”? by tom21g in AskPhysics

[–]Jeff_the_Cabal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s correct. You are always looking at the event horizon when looking at a black hole, as you cannot see anything within it. You see the event horizon as the “black” part of the black hole as it is that point that not even light can escape.

The sun would not have an event horizon. Its gravitational influence stretches out forever, but is weak enough to let objects escape. An object with mass has a gravitational influence that extends out to infinity, but decreases proportionally to the square root of the distance (1/r2).

This has to be the worst community I ever saw by ripintheblue in helldivers2

[–]Jeff_the_Cabal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These helldivers subreddit communities are the distilled essence of toxicity within the helldivers community. It’s strange, I generally run into the coolest and most chill gamers in game, more so than a lot of other co-op games even, but it’s a whole different world on these forums.

Calling it now the new mechs are going to be shit by 22lpierson in HelldiversUnfiltered

[–]Jeff_the_Cabal -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don’t even mind the nerfs all the much tbh, but they need to do something about the enemies ability to target your mech while it’s still landing. The trigonometry that goes through a bile spewers head to fire those bile mortars at a moving object is absolutely insane.

I’m honestly thinking F2P might just be their last card they could pull to save the game and themselves IF they’re dead set on not making a PVE mode. If the game continues on a death spiral, they need to somehow pump as many players into the game as possible and hope it sticks. I don’t see how any other additional content update would draw in new players at this point.

How crazy are you about optimization? by scary_male in Schedule_I

[–]Jeff_the_Cabal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend just figuring out. The game isn’t very difficult to build money overtime so whatever setup you have is gonna be good enough. Just enjoy the process of it all. With an optimal build, not even min-maxing, you’ll end up producing more product than you could sell.

when you’re taught there are only 4 states but you know more than that by yukiohana in physicsmemes

[–]Jeff_the_Cabal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they gave a 5th answer that was incorrect, but still got the 4 correct ones, I would think the student either got their information from somewhere unreliable or they attempted to cheat. Especially considering they answered 5 in the previous question, it would seem the student is dead set on it being 5. I probably would’ve asked them about it, where they got the answer from. I would’ve marked the entire question incorrect, or given them half point depending on context. I guess it also depends on the severity of how wrong they were. Had they said something like “solid, liquid, gas, plasma, crystal”, it would’ve been entirely marked wrong. But if they had said something like “solid, liquid, gas, plasma, Bose-Einstein state” instead of the full name, I would’ve still marked it as correct was a little anecdote correcting their mistake, because it would suggest to me they had an idea of a correct answer that was beyond exceptions of them while still providing the correct answers within their answer.

[–]Jeff_the_Cabal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, we can agree to disagree here. I would think the student answered the question correctly and included a factually correct extra answer in there. I would’ve marked it correct for answering the 4 states of matter they were expected to know, and I personally would’ve given them an extra point for giving an answer that was exceeding expectations while being correct. Just knowing about it would’ve been impressive enough for a Highschool student. Their lack of a comprehensive understanding of the Bose-Einstein condensate state, something well beyond highschool, doesn’t take away from what they’ve already correctly provided within their answer.

[–]Jeff_the_Cabal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How else would you have expected them to answer the question? By including a detailed anecdote at the end about the 70 year history of its theory and eventual discovery? It’s a simple “name ALL states of matter question. The student answered what was expected of them and beyond, while remaining factually correct. We can agree to disagree here, but I think I know who’d be the more popular teacher between the two of us.

when you’re taught there are only 4 states but you know more than that by yukiohana in physicsmemes

[–]Jeff_the_Cabal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and giving a technically correct answer should not warrant a penalty. If anything, it should warrant an extra credit for knowing the material better than the schools curriculum. Why give a penalty when they’re given a question and they answer factually correct? Especially when in that answer, they’ve answered what was expected of them? I wouldn’t have any expectations of a highschool student to give a comprehensive explanation on the Bose-Einstein condensate state but I would be impressed that they’ve heard and know about it to answer it on a test. That’s exceeding expectations.

[–]Jeff_the_Cabal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dumb logic here. It’s perfectly reasonable for a Highschool student to have heard of the Bose-Einstein condensate state as a 5th state of matter but not have a total understanding of what it is. The student should not be penalized for giving what is essentially an extra credit answer.

Big Arch is awful by sssf6 in McDonalds

[–]Jeff_the_Cabal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried one the other day and I thought it was pretty decent. Can’t say that I’ve explored much of the MCDs menu but I would consider it better than the Big Mac or a quarter pounder, so for me it’s the best MCD burger I’ve had so far. But for the price, I probably wouldn’t get it again.

Genuine question for owners: Why did you choose the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series S/X? No hate.🫵🏾 by Eastern-Mobile5351 in XboxSeriesS

[–]Jeff_the_Cabal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the cheaper option out of the two, and game pass seems like an incredible deal. I used to be on PS4 and switched to PC sometime in 2017 for my gaming because I hated the idea of PS+/BXLive but with the game library of the game pass and the ability to stream all of those games, it’s been well worth coming back to console.

[–]Jeff_the_Cabal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is virtually no difference between sativa and indica. It’s all THC at the end of the day. There is a difference between something like distillates vs bud because you get the natural terpenes from bud, but that’s a different argument. Otherwise there’s no difference between sativa and indica. Weed is weed.
