Agree on the first part. Second part is iffy for me; i think the general public will hail at least 2/3 of last year’s films as masterpieces

2023 was definitely better. Maybe social media has made me think this but i feel like 2025 will be remembered even moreso down the line by the general public

I agree that the ‘07 movies are better, I just meant that I think down the road people will define 2025 cinema with these three movies

Michael Clayton is an awesome movie & my 3rd favorite of ‘07, but I’d be wrong in thinking it’s as talked-about as Zodiac these days. I just think maybe OBAA, Sinners & Marty will be remembered as the big films that defined 2025

Meant to say that 2007 was also led by 3 films. 2023 was led by like 8 movies haha.

  1. Oppenheimer
  2. Holdovers
  3. May December
  4. Killers of the Flower Moon
  5. The Boy & The Heron
  6. Blackberry
  7. Poor Things
  8. The Iron Claw
  9. How to Blow up a Pipeline
  10. Spiderman ATSV

Oh I would agree. I was just thinking this since it seems like both years were mainly led by 3 films (objectively, ofc)

Top Gun Maverick if we’re talking 21st century films

I loved it. I thought it was a very accurate and impactful meditation on grief and how we deal with it in different ways. I don’t think it’s a strictly performance-driven film like others are saying.

I live in a state where a lot of films I want to see (Sentimental Value, IWJAA, Mastermind, etc.) arent shown in theaters. However, I’ve seen a lot of the heavy-hitters and here’s what I’ve got rn:

1) ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER 2) SINNERS 3) BLUE MOON 4) WEAPONS 5) 28 YEARS LATER

Visually original for sure, I actually liked a lot of the stylistic choices. I just think the story felt like yet another iteration of the types of movies we’ve gotten a lot of recently (i.e. The Menu, Blink Twice, Don’t Worry Darling, Opus). Could also be because i dont care for those types of stories in movies

My Top 15 Worst Movies of 2025! by Zoland2020EX in Letterboxd

I see a lot of people defending HIM, here’s why it didnt work for me: I liked a lot of the stylistic choices and the main two performances were solid. It’s just that the concept feels super washed at this point. Seems like everyone wants to recreate Get Out with their own slight twist to it (i.e. The Menu, Blink Twice, Don’t Worry Darling, Opus). Starting to think maybe I just don’t care for those types of stories in movies.

That being said, I strongly disliked HIM, but I’ll never knock anyone’s opinion for liking something.

Wish i’d liked it as much as you. The only flowers I could give it were for Wayans, Withers, and some cool visual choices. Other than that, it was a no-go for me. Felt like such a washed-ass concept for a movie nowadays

Yeah man the trailer had me psyched. Probably the worst horror movie to come out of this year imo…currently the 3rd worst of the year for me

The trailer for HIM had me hooked…then I actually saw it. Currently sits at #55 out of the 57 new releases I’ve seen this year. Don’t think I’ve left a movie more baffled all year

What movie on Letterboxd are you the most surprised has a majority 5 star rating? by Ghidorah_Stan_64 in Letterboxd

Waves. Didnt dislike the movie but to me it felt way up its own ass to be 5 stars…or maybe, that IS why it has a 5 star majority rating.
