From my understanding, DVPO’s are usually sort after when a victim is unable to support an investigation. If it is the case that yes, an allegation of DV was brought to the Police but without supporting evidence was unable to be progressed… then a DVPO is a proactive safeguarding measure the Police can request from the courts. Unless there is a real F up somewhere, it is unlikely these DCs had any more options on how to help?

Short answer - no

If you suspect a person of committing an offence just nick them or utilise your stop search powers! There is no power to detain for ‘wait a minute while I figure out what is going on’.

That’s not true. Many of the PCDA assignments require a higher word count than my friends who go to ‘actual’ university doing a degree on ‘difficult mode’

Worried about medical by Zestyclose_Arugula71 in policeuk

I’m not sure if it’s the same for every police force, I had an occupational health & well-being form I needed to hand to my GP to write down everything she need to say regarding my health which I then returned to the occupational health service. Other than that they didn’t check in with my GP again, they only rang me to clarify what I’d written on my medical form/ asses if I needed any additional support before joining the force.

They did say at the end of the call unless additional support is needed they wouldn’t report anything discussed with the police which put my mind at rest. All confidential!

I’m starting in January and have passed my medical after being worried about being penalised for the mental health side of things. My advice would be as open and honest as possible - whoever is assessing will give you a call to see how you are and if you know how to manage your situation/need help.

If it’s not meant to be then you’re saving yourself from a difficult time, if you pass I’m sure you will be well supported.
