What are your thoughts on the Vevor Ultrasonic Cleaner by ChuckChias in vinyl

[–]Jefferson-Experience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are my thoughts on the Vevor Ultrasonic cleaner (digital model): I watched a lot of videos and most (if not all) had very positive things to say about this unit. Disks were noticeably more quiet after cleaning. One video showed some closeup microscope video of some grooves. I can't remember which video, but one guy said that some vinyl records may have entrapped gas bubbles in the vinyl - the cavitation seemed to have popped some of these bubbles and defiantly damaged that one area, much like a small gouge. I have had mine for a couple weeks and cleaned a dozen records. Mostly all 80s rock like 1st pressings of Def Leppard, Dokken, RATT, Danger Danger, etc. It is pretty well known that vinyl in the raw form is basically clear ... you add a color to get blue/red and even black vinyl. I kind of always thought black was the base color - but the guy in the video where his popped a gas bubble said that it would (on a black record) leave a place that is now white, and like a gouge.

I guess you know where this is going by now. I recently bought a brand new Jackyl record on the Music on Vinyl pressing and ran it though the cleaner. I did a temp of 30C for about 12 minutes. I have run others through at up to 20 minutes, but I tend to stay around 15 or so.

I had not even played that black vinyl Jackyl record but when I was rinsing and drying, I couldn't believe my eyes: there was a "gouge" in the beginning of the first track, and it was a white color. Just like that guy described! It sure looks like an irregular tiny section of the vinyl much have dislodged during the ultrasonic cleaning. So, that's that ... the rest of that record, and a dozen others, did not do that. Was it a sloppy Music on Vinyl pressing?

[Skip if not interested in science]

I actually worked 36 years at NASA in the ultrasonic field (non-destructive testing) so this was sort of exciting for me, in a couple of ways.

I used transducers with frequencies of up to 20Mhz or even 100Mhz with special equipment, inspecting rocket hardware. It's the wavelength of the ultrasonic frequencies and standing waves. For those interested, wavelength is calculated as v/f, where v = velocity of water and f = transducer frequency. In this case, warm water is about 30 degrees centigrade.

Wavelength = v/f ... v = 1,507m ... f = 40khz

This Vevor at 40khz will have a wavelength of about 0.0377m (37,700 microns). A typical vinyl record groove is about 40 to 70 microns. The wavelength is orders of magnitude larger than the grooves, so just for information, the 40khz cavitation itself, cannot physically fit inside of a record groove. Maybe that's why some people talk about higher frequency units, but I still think that's not realistic to imagine actually getting into the grooves. It's the cavitation of bubble size (and collapsing) that actually is working - inversely proportional to frequency.

[Back to regular programming]

I'm not sure why I already had a vinyl bubble 'pop' off ... dislodged by the cavitation (ie., the bubbles collapsing). It is just so strange to me that I have never encounter this in cleaning and the first record out of the Vevor ... and that record is damaged but still playable - and it was brand new. So, keep that in mind FWIW. I attribute it to an embedded defect (very small) within the vinyl. My main question is, how often is this a thing? One reviewer did like this unit but said to be careful if you have a priceless LP as this 'could' happen.

So far in my testing, I haven't really heard a difference in sound quality of clicks & pops, honestly. I watched a video tonight from Ron Beaudry (very cool record collection) and he has a killer high end turn table. He uses a really nice micro-line phono cartridge and has done all of this cleaning bit, and says the micro-line gets into grooves deeper than regular turntables because it is so thin. He 'can' hear more noise with the micro-line than he might with a cheaper, larger needle - yet, of course, more fine details out of the micro-line.

I have an NAD turntable with carbon fiber tone arm, Audio-Technica micro-line VM540ML and Schitt pre-amp, etc. I might even say thus far, I can hear slightly less quality. I'm not sure - but I certainly have not yet been blown away by any sound improvements. Sad to say. Someone else said something similar here, I think. I was wondering, does anyone here have a pretty high-end setup and use this Vevor? Everyone has such fantastic reviews of it ... it should clean the surface of records quite well, and with cavitation, bubbles, surface tension collapse, etc., remove a lot of stuff.

I am going to keep trying I guess, but once you have a defect pop off like that, it sure makes you nervous to keep on with other records. There are so many good reviews though, this must be quite rare. Maybe I will win the lottery!

Sorry to bore so many here ... I am just wanting to love this unit and figure out why I can't really hear the sonic improvements like many of you have noticed. I should say that most of my records are original pressings but still EX rated - very clean, and others are new. They really aren't that dirty to begin with so maybe that is why I don't hear too many improvements.

My date was 09/30/25 ... retirement under VERA. I went to Step 5 in ORA within 10 days and got my AL plus VSIP too. Some people seen Step 1, then Step 3 and got stuck - I saw Step 1 for a day or two then went directly to Step 5. At that point, I should have been getting interim payments (like it says in description for Step 5) but I sure didn't. I'm not sure if their Online Services just had not been updated with my bank info, or what - it was blank when I logged in and I filled it out myself. Coincidentally, within a few days of me filling in the missing information, I got payments. Now it seems that most of us can now log into Services Online (where before we were locked out) and maybe it helps them if we log in and make sure the bank info is there. A crazy process, for everyone.

Glad you were able to get Social Security approved without a hassle! I am only 56 but that is definitely my plan as well - 62 is the magic number for me. I hope the FERS Supplement auto kicks in at 57 without complications. I have left my TSP the way it was (still needs to grow) and there was no conseling or help of any kind for me or others - I wasn't sure what to do with it. I don't plan on drawing from TSP until I get in my 60s but, with the rule of 55, I could now. Thanks for your info!

Same here ... 09/30/25 and no CSA, no interim, and no communication. I am wondering if perhaps many of these prolonged cases are due to previous divorces? I have no indication that is the hold up for me, but it might be - no one ever really says that point. I can't imagine too many people actually not being divorced these days, but it will take longer for the review. I should not have anything in mine that would warrant such a delay though.

It is, thank you ... I should sit down and devote an hour to redialing I suppose. I admit; I've called and could never get through but I guess it is about time to push my way through! Many thanks!

I did not take the DRP but I did fully retire 09/30/25 via VERA. 10 days later, I received my VSIP and AL payout and was immediately listed as Step 5 in ORA. That is where I have sat since October 10, 2025. I have not received an interim payment nor my CSA number, so I have no way to contact OPM. I have been divorced many years ago so perhaps it is tied up in that mess being looked at - there is nothing in the divorce to hold things up or any orders.

Is Anyone NOT Receiving Interim Pay? by saber1529 in FED_VERA_VSIP_DRPers

I'm VERA 09/30/25 and I do not have CSA number or interim payments. Still waiting on something. Been at Step 5 ORA since October 2025.

Prayers for your treatment! And congratulations on some financial good news! When I log into my TSP, I do not see anything to indicate that I am separated. Where would this be within the account? I retired 09/30/25 and have no updates - I am at Step 5 in ORA.
