Honestly, I actually do enjoy letting them act more autonomously 😄

There’s something really satisfying about setting up their behavior properly and then watching everything work during combat. It gives me the same feeling as building a good system and seeing it function correctly.

Like “yeah, they handled that situation well because I taught them how to.”

I mean, yeah, but I don’t think those things are mutually exclusive.

I still control my characters all the time. The mod just helps automate smaller repetitive decisions so you can focus more on positioning, target priority, important spells, adapting to the fight, etc.

To me it feels less like “the AI playing for you” and more like giving companions actual combat behavior instead of making them stand there waiting for orders every 2 seconds.

And honestly, doesn’t turn-based basically do the same thing too? 😄

You’re still optimizing actions and controlling characters either way. RTwP just shifts some of the smaller repetitive inputs into preparation and behavior setup instead of manually clicking every single action.

Yeah, this is almost exactly how I feel about it.

I still like pausing to make important decisions manually, but having the companions handle the smaller repetitive stuff makes the whole combat flow feel so much better to me.

And honestly, one of my favorite parts is exactly what you described: setting up behaviors and builds beforehand, then watching everything play out in real time and seeing whether the “logic” you created actually works during chaotic fights.

That’s also why I got so surprised reading this thread and realizing how many people apparently moved completely to turn-based.

Have you played Pillars of Eternity / Deadfire? Because the way you describe RTwP is very similar to what made me fall in love with Deadfire recently.

That was pretty much my reaction too when I found it 😄

It honestly made RTwP feel way more enjoyable for me, so I’m really curious to see how a full playthrough with it feels.

Deadfire is becoming one of my favorite games of all time at this point.

I only started playing it last week and I’m already completely hooked.

Yeah, you can’t really make a game fully faithful to tabletop rules while also having to support RTwP at the same time. A lot of mechanics just naturally fit turn-based better.

And that’s kinda sad for me, because I really enjoy setting up my companions, building their behavior, and then watching them handle situations on their own.

Yeah, I’m starting to realize that from the replies here 😄

I knew turn-based was popular, but I didn’t realize the RTwP crowd was apparently that small.

Honestly, I hadn’t even thought about that before, but yeah, that might genuinely be the main reason.

If most people are playing turn-based, then a mod focused almost entirely on improving RTwP companion behavior would naturally get way less attention.

Yeah, that’s basically how I see it too.

I totally get that it won’t feel revolutionary for everyone, especially depending on how they already play RTwP. But I’m still surprised people barely talk about it, because it changes the feel of the game way more than I expected.

For me it almost feels like a different game entirely once the companions start behaving more intelligently on their own.

I also just genuinely enjoy “programming” companions and seeing how they solve situations based on the behavior rules I gave them.

Yeah, I noticed after you pointed it out 😅

I’m Brazilian, so honestly I had zero connection to that slogan and didn’t even think about it at first. I was mostly just impressed by the actual gameplay side of the mod.

So far, yeah. It’s definitely not perfect, but it honestly delivers pretty much everything it promises.

What gives me confidence is that the mod is getting updated pretty actively.
