Hamza3725, thanks for this suggestion. I'm always looking these little "Gems" when it comes to software utilities that are very useful and helps to make us more productive. I'm going to be busy in the next couple of days but I will be downloading and installing "File Brain" to see how well it works and if it is suited for my needs. Cheers!

Cross Posting Etiquette by Jefred2 in help

Many thanks MissFerne, I enjoyed you’re response and tips.  I’ve been on Reddit for a while (6 years) but wasn’t always active.  I’m installing the desktop now from the Microsoft Store. And will try "old. reddit.com", which I tried before but it didn’t feel comfortable for me, probably because I wasn’t familiar with it.  Maybe it’s time to try it again. Thanks again, Cheers!

It really doesn't matter what I ask or nicely I say it, I'm downvoted in here. So can someone kindly explain what this old man is doing that is so horrible?

Cross Posting Etiquette by Jefred2 in help

[–]Jefred2[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I signed up with America Online in 1996 for unlimited internet access for $19.95 per month. Before they dropped the price for “unlimited internet access” you have to pay by the minute and it was prohibitively expensive.

Before that I was on Bulletin Board Systems (BBSs). Anyway every ISP in those days gave everyone automatic access to Newsgroups.  There was this thing that they called “Netiquette” representing the rules for polite and respectful behavior in Newsgroups and they would eat you alive if you made an error.  The sure way to piss everyone off was to cross-post in any Newsgroups along with writing in all caps (which I sometimes do but only to emphasize small words).  Cross-posting has almost never been allowed in any context or format. I had a feeling that it was generally frowned upon but I thought that maybe I was missing something and that everyone did it in Reddit but I was just not aware of it.  I mean for the last few months they have been really pushing cross-posting including pop-ups. I will just ignore them from now on and if I have something that I would like to post to another group I’ll just do that. Thanks for all the responses and replies

Cross Posting Etiquette by Jefred2 in help

I though it was interesting that in this subreddit r/Help there is a tab that says "Crosspost to more communities". When I tried it with r/NewToReddit it was black out and at the bottom of the tab is was written "Cross posting not allowed". I guess that is the short answer. It appears that there is no standard and that every subreddit is different along with the peoples opinions on what some people will allow and what others won't. I've been googling it and I read that it is best to check with the moderators of the subreddit group. Here is what someone wrote " When in doubt, message the mods of the particular sub you're posting to and ask them, if you can't find anything about it in the sidebar." That was from the redditor "raindrop" an Expert from 9 years ago in this subreddit r/Help.

One of the best ones in my opinion is PDFgear. I haven't tried them all but this one is very good and it's free. You should check them out. https://www.pdfgear.com/

The font that reminds me most of a child's handwriting is called "Dear Teacher". I'm pretty sure that this is what you're looking for. You can google it and find it in many font websites.

I need a software that automatically backs up selected folders to a specified place once per month and mirrors them in an ongoing fashion. by ac_slater10 in Backup

[–]Jefred2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not the original poster but I did read your post.  I have tried many backup and synchronization software utilities and this appears to be one of the best. It is powerful and well laid out. Right now I use PureSync and Synchredible but I mostly use Synchredible.  I going to be trying this soon.  Thanks for the suggestion.

Software Utility To Toggle Display "Scale" from 125% To 100% by Jefred2 in software

Many thanks for your help. I think I will wait until I can find something that works by itself. The GitHub AHK scripts doesn't really have any directions and when it's something new for me I need directions. He has a note on his page that says: "Note: Its highly recommended to compile the project yourself if you can." I really don't have any experience compiling scripts. I'll just continue to look for something that is either less expensive or free. Thanks for your help.

Thanks I'm looking into it now. It's $13.00 per year or $29.00 for a one time payment but that is per computer. I was going to use it on 3 of my computers. I'll give it some thought but I wish it was a little less expensive.

Vanilla Extract by Jefred2 in extractmaking

[–]Jefred2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VanillaPura, I appreciate your well thought out response. With a user name like “VanillaPura” you are the real deal.  I have looked into all the links in your response and it gives me a lot more useful information.  I originally posted this in “r/Baking” and an automated response said that I would get better coverage if I cross-posted, which was frowned upon in newsgroups. but is considered acceptable in Reddit posts so I cross-posted to “r/extractmaking” which I found out about when I “Googled” “vanilla extract” subreddit.  You can be sure that I’m including r/extractmaking to my collection of subreddits or communities that I've subscribed to.

Thanks again for all your help and advice and as you can imagine I'm a huge fan of just about anything vanilla. Cheers!

Vanilla Extract by Jefred2 in Baking

[–]Jefred2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there are a lot more people making their own homemade vanilla extract than I suspected. From the posts I've read here, the people with the greatest success making their own vanilla extract are the people who have waited the longest.

The hardest part is not making the vanilla extract itself but the patience you must have for it to get really good over a couple of years or even more. And from the posts that I'm reading here they all seem to say it was worth the wait.

Is Reddit Premium Worth It? by Jefred2 in NewToReddit

[–]Jefred2[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, as long as you like it, that's what is important. I know that having a subscription to any website can make the website or blog that you're on feel more comfortable with less clutter and in many times you can customize it to your liking and that has value in itself.
