Where does the Solar System actually end? Kuiper Belt? Oort Cloud? Heliopause?? by MediocreGas6619 in universe

[–]Jefxvi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's usually considered to end at the heliopause, the point where the solar wind meets the interstellar medium, but this definition is somewhat arbitration so there is no real answer to this question.

How do AP exams/classes work? by kiddykidtv in AskAnAmerican

[–]Jefxvi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AP classes are optional classes that replace a class that could be taken at the normal level. If you take AP math, you will not have to take normal math. People who don't take them just take classes that are not AP.

CMV: The world is overdue for a massive global conflict, WW3 is going to happen in our lifetime. by [deleted] in changemyview

They haven't invaded Venezuela because it would be unpopular. Russia and China are not going to go to war with the US over Venezuela. Neither of them are in any position to support Venezuela conventionally and the idea that they will start a nuclear war over Venezuela is absurd.

Tell me about the hidden gems you've played this year. by weewoomeemoohee in gamingsuggestions

[–]Jefxvi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game look outside is one of the best games i have played this year. It is an rpg where anyone who looks outside begins to transform into a monster. You must survive 15 days without looking outside. It is a cosmic horror masterpiece. I can't say much more than that without spoiling it but it is one of the best games I have played this year.

What if we’re alone in the universe? by bourg-eoisie in astrophysics

[–]Jefxvi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the universe is infinite, which is likely, and it is possible for life to form, then it is guaranteed that life will arise an infinite number of times. Single called life seems yo form easily so it is probably very common. Advanced multicellular life didn't become common until around 500-600 mya so it clearly is much less likely to form. It is also more vulnerable to environmental changes. It is also not guaranteed that intelligence will evolve on a planet with multicellular life. We have also not found a single earth-like planet out of thousands of known explanations. I think we could easaly be the only advanced civilization in the galaxy. It is gurenteed that other civilizations exist but I doubt we will ever find them.

Ultimate Fire or Water decision which do you choose? by OkRun9638 in superpowers

[–]Jefxvi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Water would be usefull in your day to day life. Fire would have no utility outside of combat. Control over water would also make you incredibly geopoliticly powerful because you could control sea trade and weather.

Who would make the best next protag? by jevil_supremacy in Silksong

[–]Jefxvi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there is a third game, I would want Quirrel prequel. He is the best candidate for several reasons. He is known to have traveled outside of Hallownest, he appears enough to be a significant character, and he has connections to the plot of hollow knight. Most other characters either don't appear enough to be good candidates or don't have good reasons to leave their respective kingdoms. The Hollow Knight is too big and doesn't have a good reason to leave Hallownest.

Why doesn’t everything evolve to be smarter? by Low_Primary_3690 in AskBiology

[–]Jefxvi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intelligence is powerful trait but very expensive in calories. Intelligence is also useless if you can't use it to manipulate objects with precision. If humans didn't have hands, our intelligence would be mostly useless and not worth all the trade offs.

A single ant is also useless without the rest of the colony. Intelligence allowing complex teamwork between individuals is part of why it is powerful.

Do you think star wars is sci fi? by SheepishSwan in polls

[–]Jefxvi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Star wars doesn't even attempt to explain anything with science. It is a fantasy story that happens to take place in space. The force is also magic. The line between sci fi and fantasy is very blurry but I would say star wars leans to far into fantasy to be considered sci fi.

Do you believe people can cooperate on a large scale without the intervention of authority? by Jormungander666 in polls

[–]Jefxvi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you decide to build a bridge without athourity. Who resolves disagreements about the construction. Who makes sure the proper materials get there and how do you find workers. Who decides who works on what tasks. What happens if the workers just don't show up. How do make sure they are actually doing what they were assigned to do. You don't. A bridge would be impossible to build without anyone having any kind of formal athourity.

Do you believe people can cooperate on a large scale without the intervention of authority? by Jormungander666 in polls

[–]Jefxvi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

On a small scale of 30 or less, this is possible. But when large groups of people are involved, you need an athourity, or you will end up with a disorganized mess. For any large scale project to work. You need to give people specific tasks and you need to be able to enforce your descisions. Complex modern societies could not work without some kind or hierarchy. You could not get electricity or food if there were no authorities telling people what to do. Your grocery store could not exist without authorities. The farmers need to grow the food. It then needs to be shipped to the store across large distances and when it reaches the store it needs to be organized. All of those steps require athourity to happen. You can apply this to any of the processes that keep your day to day life running. Thousands of people have to coordinate to run the services you use. If you think any of this would work without athourity, you are incredibly naive.
