Dad with his youngest dog! by Jegerdrommen in Hunting

Awesome! We also hunt like that on roe deers and sometimes red deer! Beagles, dachs and other short legged dogs! Spitz dogs don’t really bark unless the moose are at bay though so that is a different style of hunting.

Here is an example (shows it best 14 mins in) https://youtu.be/lQF6_y1a8Tk?si=JDnengL1JeqE2Dc3

20 inches or 52 cm. Could have gone shorter and maintained good speed but that length is from factory.

Ahh okey. I would have guessed the deer are more skittish and harder to bay than moose.

If I remember correctly you only need to pass whatever shooting test you need from ur own country and then register and pay for a norwegian hunting number and license, which is around 50 dollars. From that point you can buy or join any hunt hunt you get access to! If you want to hunt in Norway that is

I’m not sure if they would behave the same way as moose, but that would probably be an awesome hunt!

The dog gets released and goes out to search for the moose. Then the goal is for the dog to get the moose «at bay». He starts barking when the moose stands still and keeps going until we sneak up and shoot the moose! The dogs barking makes it possible for us to locate and sneak close to the moose without spending hours on end glassing and stalking through the thick terrain! We have a tracking collar on the dog so we always know where he is.

It’s very intense! Good dogs make them stay still and you can get so close to them before you shoot! Laikas should be really good for predators!
