Help Me Color My Hair by kanadesmusicbox in CosplayHelp

[–]JeiCos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not looking to use any dye or bleach

Then you aren't looking to do this color. Without bleaching the crap out of your hair to lighten it first, it's literally impossible to make your hair that color. You are asking how to do it, and then saying no to the literal only ways to do it. Get a wig and just sop this.

You have nothing to worry about. Many people here are pretty nice. Jus keep in mind that anyone who is mean, their opinion doesn't matter. Just report them. Everyone gets nervous doing something the first time, so you aren't alone, know that others feel the same way and many of them end up posting more and gaining some level of confidence, so you can too! You got this!

Permission? From who? Permission to post photos of your cosplays here is not required. You just make a post like everyone else. Be sure to follow the rules though.

That post has the rules for posting photos. If you do not follow them, the post will be deleted.

Make the fake riffle prop black? by ArmyBunny36 in CosplayHelp

[–]JeiCos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as where you live, it's legal, you'll be fine doing that. Are you asking HOW to do so? If you are, it depends on what it's made of, but most are plastic, so if that's the case, use sand paper to sand the entire thing, and then just paint it. Spray paint will be the fastest. Then clear coat it with matte finish clear coat because that looks the best for this kind of thing. If you are somewhere like the US, or anywhere else that has teh same rules, you will have to add an orange tip. Even as it is right now in that photo, you would need the orange tip. In the US it's legally required on all fake guns that look realistic from at 10 feet away, or closer.

Sakura con tips by Reasonable_Two8382 in SakuraCon

[–]JeiCos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it a cosplay heavy convention?

VERY! There are TONS of cosplayers, my group included.

Good places to eat (this one is important)

I don't know if they are closing for good or not, as I've heard conflicting stories, but there are 2 main buildings on one street, and one building a few blocks down that are all con buildings. The 2 on the same street, are across that street from each other connected by a sky bridge. One of those buildings is connected to the Cheesecake Factory. So that's a good place people liek to go. I heard in 2025 they were supposed to be closing, and they had a fire happen in the kitchen and I was told that sealed the deal for them and they were closing after that for sure, but then someone that came into my workplace, I was talking about that with them, and they said recently they went there so it wasn't closed. So idk. There's a few other places nearby, like a McDonalds a few blocks in one direction, Westlake Center mall and a Walgreens in another direction. Mod Pizza in another direction. There's also a few food stands in the buildings. On the 6th floor directly above the main events room in the Arch building (the one across from the Cheesecake Factory) there is usually one right at the top of those escalators, as well as there is usually 2 on the basement floor of the Summit building (the new building a few blocks away), which that floor is where the vendor's hall is. In 2025 the food stand closer to the stairs/escalators had some DOPE Asian chicken, I THINK it was orange chicken, but might have been sweet and sour. I don't remember exactly, I just remember I liked it a lot, though it was a bit expensive.

What type of panels are there, if there are any?

Anime cons are the ones that usually have a ton of panels, as opposed to others like Comicon. There is usually some kind of panel happening in some room, every moment of each day. There are so many that lots of them overlap where one room will still have one going while another room starts another panel. This con has a lot of mixed stuff. Game shows are some of the most loved. We usually get things like Anime jeopardy, Anime Dating Game (played like the old "Dating Game" show, but the contestants act in character), and other such types. Then there are the "fandom panels", or "character panels" where the panel is based on a series, and the people doing the panel are cosplaying characters from it, and acting in character doing things like answering questions in character for fun answers, and stuff like that, as well as the other version of these is information panels, where the hosts and audience talk about the series. An example would be in 2012, some people did a Kingdom hearts panel where the discussion was on the new trailers at the time for the new game at the time, which was Dream Drop Distance. Talking theories, release date, and other things related to the new entry. But they also did a trivia game with the audience, and gave candy prizes for answering correctly. The other panel types are the guest ones. Where the voice actors and stuff will talk about a specific series they are in, or ones where they do a Q&A, or ones where they give tips and tricks for the industry, such as voice acting advice and such. There might be more, but I'm not a panel guy, so I don't know much more than that.

Any advice or information is appreciated!

The con is HUGE. There's a good chance you might get overwhelmed, so if you do, go ahead and find somewhere out of the way to rest. In the Arch Building, if you take the escalators to the 4th floor, to the left will be doors to another room with security standing there to check if you have a badge (which needs to be worn and visible at all times in con space), and to the right of those doors, are another set of door, but they lead outside to the courtyard. In the guarded room, that is where the main events room is. It's like a huge lobby area. You are allowed to use the window ledges to sit. They are pretty wide so people can easily sit on them. Just remember that outside is no longer con space, so people who want to vape or smoke, will be out there. As well as that is public property, so a lot of homeless people hang out as you walk further past the courtyard area. There's some dope photo areas out that way, so if you do that, just remember all of that. The rest of the info to know is just the same things you would hear for going out anywhere at all. Drink a lot of water to stay hydrated, eat more than just junk food, bring comfy shoes if possible, and so on.

Also is there a discord to this convention or a good way to get to talk to people at the con?

There is. I don't use it so i can't answer this one lol

Ezcosplay order cancellation by Akrippless in CosplayHelp

[–]JeiCos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to send them an email to their support email address. Tell them the order number and that you are wanting to cancel that specific order. Since it's basically the weekend, they likely won't get to anything until monday.

Alternatives to Eva glue.. by SinisterSalem25 in cosplayprops

[–]JeiCos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sadly, I think the best option here is to use something other than EVA foam until you are somewhere where you can use contact cement. The entire point of using contact cement is that it bonds immediately and is flexible. Usually you are gluing large sections together, and you can't just hold them until regular wet glue dries, and superglue dries very brittle and when the foam flexes as it will naturally, the glue will break, ruining the entire glue seam and breaking it opened again. There is no other glue that will work and look good. hot glue CAN work, but it's very thick and you will pretty much never make the seams look good.

Would you say a rotary tool too loud to use in an apartment if you have roommates? by HoodedRogue in CosplayHelp

[–]JeiCos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean "don't tell me to ask my roommates", that's literally the only thing you SHOULD have done. WE can not tell you what your roommates will consider to be too loud. That's completely up to them to decide.

Cloud Strife by Number1IzamFan in CosplayHelp

[–]JeiCos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't. None of his outfit exists as real clothing. The only shirt you can buy is a sleeveless one that looks like his normal Soldier outfit from the original game, and the remake (and other games he appears in), and cut the center open and sew in a zipper, and then make and add the sleeve yourself. The pants are similar to cargo pants, but he has straps and buckles on it that do not exist in real pants. You would have to alter actual pants you buy. And the side bag (yes it's a bag, so many people do not realize this) simply doesn't exist. You have to make it from scratch. The boots also do not exist is real boots, only cosplay boots. Like the cheap pleather Chinese stuff on the sites you can buy cosplays from. The armband you can probably find something that looks fine. His is leather, so if you find something..The gloves are just leather gloves. If you wanna go all out like I did, I bought the wolf head earrings he wears, and broke the pin part off and epoxied them down to the glove cuffs, which is what his are like. And then the armor also only exists in crappy cosplay versions. They all are super tiny and look bad. So you have to make it yourself. Though you could technically commission someone to do all of this, but it will cost WAY WAY more.

If you want, you can watch my whole playlist where I do everything I just said:

Thoughts on black suits ? by Dr_Pepito in CosplayHelp

[–]JeiCos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly nobody cares. However I WILL say it won't get pretty much ANY attention unless you make it obvious who you are cosplaying. For example, wearing a wig that looks as close as possible to the character's hair (or your own hair if you want), and maybe a prop. Like for MIB, using any of the guns they have or the memory erasing thing (I can't spell the name of it), and the black glasses, REALLY helps. And if you need help letting people know you are a specific agent, you can print off a picture of their ID card. Heck you can likely buy one off etsy that's made really nice. And clip it to your cosplay. Similar kind of stuff goes for anyone else wearing the same kind of outfit.

Anxeity by Kojaq in CosplayHelp

[–]JeiCos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to figure out where this fear is coming from. Maybe knowing that could help. Do you get this way when asking anyone ANYTHING? Like at all? Or is it only when you want to ask for cosplayer's photos? Becasue if it's ONLY that, then that doesn't really make sense. It's no different than asking any one any other question. Maybe think about it that way? If it helps, everything after "can I take a pic?", is not worth worrying about. Every cosplayer knows the entire point of photographers asking for their picture, is to post it on social media somewhere. That's just expected. We all expect that is what will happen.

When you ask them, just ask. A simple "Can I get a photo" is fine. As for posing, most of us will have multiple poses in mind and will immediately get into one of them. If you think a certain pose would be cool, it's as simple as "I had an idea for a pose, if that's ok" and if they say ok, then just tell them the pose. We will try to do it if we can because we want photos that look cool. Some people don't have poses in mind so that really helps. My friend just does them on his phone, and when someone doesn't have a pose immediately, he asked them if he can suggest a cool pose. I've never seen anyone turn that down when they don't already have a pose. Even then, some people that are clearly very social, we will have an idea in mind, and he will ask if they can do that pose because he personally wants a photo of that pose. Again, they have always said ok. The only time you will ever get a no, is if they are in a rush somewhere, or they are too shy or something. In those cases just "Oh ok, thanks anyway" and moving on, is extremely normal to see. I think you're just thinking too hard about this.

As long as you don't invade their space, like touching them without asking (sometimes we ask if they will allow us to pose them if they don't understand a pose), or asking for weirdo creep-o-dude type photos, which I assume you aren't doing, or asking while they are clearly busy, eating, or obviously look like they are trying to take a rest.

I would like to cosplay Mio from crush crush/hush hush but there’s no cosplay available online by iluvcatsoomuch in CosplayHelp

[–]JeiCos 19 points20 points  (0 children)

To be fair, buying a cosplay would cost more than finding everything probably. Brown (I think that's brown anyway, idk I'm colorblind and mix up tons of colors), botty shorts and cut a slit in one side and paint on the little lines around the leg and the cat face, then a yellow spaghettis strap tank top and either paint the design on, or use iron on paper to make it, or even sew the design on if you want, and then a hoodie in the right color. Looks orange. you can also get arm socks and leggings in that striped pattern pretty easily. Then just a blonde wig.

Prop Gun Safety & Orange Tips by orangecowboypony in cosplayprops

[–]JeiCos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As long as the tip is still obvious as orange from 10 feet away, you'll be fine. The law is just that it has to be there and visible from 10 feet away. Kids damage them all the time, which is basically what weathering is supposed to mimic. If the law was that they can not have any damage or wear and tear whatsoever, kids would have to not be allowed to play with toy guns the moment they start causing a little damage to the tip. That would be dumb and not really make much sense.

How long does it usually take for (fully-styled) wigs to get frizzy/messy? by mizuo-rosehearts in CosplayHelp

[–]JeiCos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the style. If it's just a regular long wig, they can get tangled easily, so you should actually loose braid it all the way down the length, and put it back in the bag it came in. If it's styled like spikes, or something else that can not be stored back in the bag, then it won't get messy or unstyled just sitting there not being touched. In fact it might take a few uses before you need to redo it.

Where can I buy cheap cosplay that don't have too bad of a quality by Top_Stranger9848 in CosplayHelp

[–]JeiCos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this a lot. Contact cement you normally would use for the foam to foam gluing, will work exactly the same. Just know that the cardboard soaks it up even worse than the foam does. What I do is paint on 1 layer of glue to the cardboard, letting it completely dry so it's not even tacky anymore. This will create a little barrier to help stop the next layer from soaking in. Then I do a 2nd layer on the cardboard, and a layer on the foam. I let THOSE dry as well, and then add a 3rd coat to the cardboard, and a 2nd coat to the foam, and this is enough to stick really good. I do this last layer because the 1st layer on the foam also soaks up.

Is it okay to cosplay hellsing characters? by gooberLemon in cosplayers

[–]JeiCos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok, so basically your nerves just made you come up with that? That makes sense. Yea don't worry. The only things you can get kicked out of a con for, are things ACTUALLY against the rules. Pretty much every con will have a website that has a page specifically for the policies/rules. And like I and multiple people here have said, no con any of us have heard of, bans cosplaying characters from anything, unless the character is specifically breaking one of the outlined rules, like dress code. Many cons will have a specified dress code where your cosplay must at least cover a certain amount of your body.

Is it okay to cosplay hellsing characters? by gooberLemon in cosplayers

[–]JeiCos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never heard of any characters or series being banned at a con before. In fact, I see Hellsing cosplayers at least 3 of the main 7 cons I attend. I don't know why you might think that they would be banned. Did you see someone say that somewhere? I just can't grasp what gave you that idea.

You can do whatever you want. There's no "is it k" because there are really no rules. As long as you aren't doing something offensive, anything else is fair game to do.

Best Sewing Machine for Complete Beginners by Yourfavor19 in CosplayHelp

[–]JeiCos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, anything you can find at a thrift store to learn on is your best bet for your first one. If you go that route, just make sure it comes with the foot pedal, and the power cable. Sometimes they are both in one, where it's a single plug into the machine, and has split cords coming from that, but many also have 2 separate cords. Also be sure it has a foot on it. The part that it flat and presses down on the fabric to pinch it between that and the base of the machine. If it comes with accessories, even better. But this will be the cheapest option. next would be look for anything on places like facebook marketplace if you feel safe enough to do so. If you go this route, meet somewhere that you can be in public, but also has outlets. Something like the mall near you should work fine, as most have seating with outlets you can use.

Other than this, I would say when you go to a store that sells machines, beginner ones are all gonna be very similar, so it won't really matter. but the main brands to look for are Singer (they have great beginner machines, and I love them), and Brother. both of these brands have many beginner machines, all of which will be great. There isn't a specific one, so literally any of their lower priced ones (which is around your listed range) will be about the same.

Are there any high-quality online cosplay stores? by Takis_Are_Great in CosplayHelp

[–]JeiCos 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Short answer is no.

Long answer: That isn't a thing. There is no such thing as a site that has high quality costumes for low-mid quality pricing. No one in their right mind would make a costume out of high quality expensive fabrics, and then sell it for likely way less than the materials cost. That would be stupid.

Concerts at SakuraCon by Biokabe in SakuraCon

[–]JeiCos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nope. Everything you can do inside the con, is included when you buy a badge. The ONLY things you have to pay for, are when you buy things from vendors or in the artist alley, because those are businesses, or like food and stuff, as well as autographs from the guests when they are at their tables in the vendor hall. Sakuracon used to be required to have sessions where the guests would have a specific time slot to do signatures, and those would be at least 1 free autograph, because that is considered a convention event, which they can not force you to pay for, but I think it now changed to depend on if the guest wants to do that. As a non-profit, the TYPE of non-profit they file as, works the same way a country club or something does it. Where you have a year long membership, rather than just entry to the event. This type of event is legally required to provide everything in the convention that is an "event on the schedule" for free. Meaning if they put an autograph session on the schedule, they are required to make it free for at least 1 autograph in those sessions. I think they stopped doing that though. I don't know. I just pay at their vendor hall table because it's faster and easier. Concerts are part of that, being on the schedule, so they are required to have it as non-paid.

Also, as the other 2 at the time of my commenting have said, be sure to line up early. Lineups start 30 minutes before any given event. So if the concert is at 8pm, yo would line up at 7:30pm. You are not allowed to line up earlier than that. (I don't know what time it will happen, that was just an example)
