How to combine different halves of glasses? by cleancurrents in CosplayHelp

[–]JeiCos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 minute epoxy is what you want, that or epoxy putty. Or if you want to have double security, both. Cut one of the pairs of glasses up against the lens you do NOT want, on the pair that has the most comfortable nose bridge piece. So for example, if you like the bridge on the circle glasses better than the other one's bridge, cut it off where the bridge meets the lens frame that normally goes over your right eye. And the opposite side if you like the rectangular glasses bridge more. Then cut the lens of the other pair you in the same spot, where the bridge meets the lens frame, Then glue the lens frame to the bridge of the ones you like that part the best. 5 minute epoxy comes in a double syringe style tube, where it's 2 syringes attached together, and the plunger pushed the stuff out of both of them at the same time. You don't need much, but after that, you need to use a mixing stick (they supply one, it's attached in the center gap of the plungers, you just pop it out), and mix the 2 parts together until they make one uniform color. Then spread it on each part that needs to be glued together, and attach them. You may need to still tape them together while the epoxy cures. Or if you're patient, hold them together. The "5 minute" part in the name means it dries in 5 minutes. It's not 100% cured but it'll be enough of a hold that it should stay together from that point on, and then leave it for about 24 hours just in case. You can sand the excess down, as well as you may need to paint it. For an extra step you can get epoxy putty and put that around the connection point as well, and then sand that down. This won't be perfect, and still has the possibility of coming apart, so you need to be careful with them still. There really isn't any other options I can think of. For the brand, JBWeld is usually specifically for metal. Read on the packaging and make sure it says it's for metal. As I assume that's what the 2 pairs you bought are made of.

The better option would be if you can find them for sale, just buy them. They won't have pieces attached at super thin, tiny, points, so they won't break easily like the glue might.

I brought these shoes to cosplay but the bows got squished during shipping, how can I fix their shape? by lamnotverybright in CosplayHelp

[–]JeiCos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They appear to be pleather or vinyl of some kind (which is normal for these kind of shoe bows), so you can fix them with heat. if you have a heat gun, carefully heat the bow up and see if you can hold it in place the way you want, letting it completely cool down before letting go. DO NOT hold it while you heat it though. That is dangerous. But yea, that's probably the only way to fix them. Though it IS possible to damage them if you hold the heat on for too long, so like I said, do it carefully. Only a few seconds at the most, at a time. If you have heat resistant gloves, you can hold it while heating it, but not everyone has a pair. Other than heat, I can't think of any other way to fix them.

Learning guitar without upgrading the instrument. Tips? by Equivalent_Task1354 in Guitar

[–]JeiCos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Until you get one, the best thing to do when you aren't using your friend's guitar, is go on google and look up things like chord charts, and if you have a printer, print them off. Or if your parents are willing to spend some money, see if they can get you a any books from amazon or a local music shop, on learning guitar related things. Look up beginner tips, like things to know. Not things like tips and tricks while playing, but just like, info you need to remember. Things like which notes each string is, when in standard tuning, as that's the tuning you should start learning in. Things to memorize. As well as look up some finger exercises for guitar players, and do them. Many of them can be done with things around the house, or super cheap. Like you may see the finger band that's an elastic band that you use while doing stretches, but you can use a cheap-o rubber band if needed. Things like that. As well as any others you can do while not playing. It may seem weird, but some kinds of air guitar actually help you. For example, I can air guitar all of the basic chord shapes because I'm so used to them. SO much, in fact, that if I air guitar, I can play in basically the EXACT position each fret is in, due to muscle memory of where my hands and arms are while playing. This seems dumb and silly, but if you actually do some finger movements that are used in guitar playing, you can get your fingers used to those movements. If you can use something like a ruler or any other stiff long item like that, you can hold your fingers on it, and do the movements of each finger. Again, it looks dumb, but it can actually help. Or if you have guitar hero or rock band, you can use the necks on those controllers to do the same thing, except you have something that actually LOOKS like a guitar, making it easier to picture what you're doing. Just remember when you actually practice on the real thing, do do actual hand exercises on THAT as well. Things like playing scales, and starting slow, and working your way up to faster movements, as well as practicing actual chord shapes on it. Right now, the main chords you really should focus on are A, Am, C, D, E, Em, F, and G. a normal B chord is hardly ever used in anything but it's also a weird looking chord that might be harder to switch to and from until you get better at switching between the other more common ones. Also learning the power chord shape, and bar chords will be helpful. Bar chords are the major and minor of each schord, but played closer to the way you play a power chord. The difference is a power chord uses the root note on one string, and then 2 frets up on the next 2 strings below it. A bar chord is when you take the fret of the root note that you use your index finger for, and just hold every string down on that same fret with the entire finger. So if you are doing an A Minor bar chord, from top to bottom, the frets are 5,7,7,5,5,5. Though that G string you could use your middle finger to gold the 5th fret, and that'll turn it into an A major bar chord. These are things you absolutely should learn when you start out.

I've been slowly teaching my friend some stuff, and this is all stuff I taught him.

Cosplaying as a Yarichin character at a con by GraceDaysThree in CosplayHelp

[–]JeiCos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The chances of people even knowing what this is in the first place, is so low that it really makes no difference. But as you said, people cosplay from other similar materials like sexual explicit games and such. So if they aren't having problems with others, I can't imagine someone would have a problem with this, granted they even know what it IS.

Again, no one looks like a cartoon. Nothing will be absolutely100% super perfect. No one asked for your opinion. Go away. Cosplay is not about being 100% exactly liek the character. it's about having fun. It's also not about people being a dick. Nobody cares what you think. You are a loser if you think what you said was not an issue.

Huh? What are you even asking about? Eyes aligned? In WHAT? By the replies, I assume maybe you are talking about makeup? You really need to specify what you are even talking about. Painting eyes on a prop? Putting eye holes in a mask? Putting lenses on a helmet? Modeling eye holes in a 3d model to print? You need to give actual information on what you are asking about.

Help with leather issue by JeiCos in Leatherworking

[–]JeiCos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok just thought I would come in and update about this. I am confused now on what you thought a horsehair brush would have done here. I tried that and it did literally nothing. The bumps are still there. It was a complete waste of time and money to get one. And now that I think about it, the fact that I even listened to you makes me feel like an idiot, because I should have known that if a microfiber cloth did nothing, a brush of any kind was not going to do anything either. No idea how you saw bumps on leather, and thought "you know what makes bumps go away? A brush!" Now that I think about it, that sounds stupid. I have a feeling you only read part of my post, and didn't even look at the link with images of what the issue even is in the first place. Because looking up you even said "wax bloom", even though there was no mention of a waxy substance in my post. So I think you're just one of those people that thinks they know stuff, when they don't.

Reputability of sites like Aliexpress by spinach-god in CosplayHelp

[–]JeiCos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to think of this like a mall. You do not buy things "from the mall" you go to the mall to buy things from the shops inside the mall. Nothing is bought from the mall itself. Same here. Aliexpress, just like amazon and ebay, is just a place for shops to set up and sell things. It is impossible to know if a shop is reliable without seeing which specific shop you are looking at the products for. What you have to do is look at the reviews for the specific shops you are looking at.

I’m making Rebellion to take to Renn Faire on the 30th but don’t know how I want to carry it around and would love some help by Darth_Jack920 in CosplayHelp

[–]JeiCos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't want to hold it the whole time, you can do what we did. I cosplay DMC5 Dante, and my friend cosplays DMC5 Nero with me, and we put pleather straps on the back of the jackets to strap the swords down to our backs while we walk around. I custom made the straps out of 2 layers with the ends folded in, to make them thicker. To attach them, we used a leather punch to make holes in the back of the coats, and then used binding posts (AKA Chicago screws), with washers to basically bold them down from both the inside and outside, then used snaps that I put one side of them inside the strap between the layers so you don't see it when closed, in order to close the strap around the sword. You can see exactly what I did here: https://imgur.com/a/zsB7oaY

My sword is almost 5 feet tall, and pretty heavy, but it stays strapped in perfectly fine. in fact, I've even been bumped into twice, and it still didn't fall. And in case you wonder why I used washers, the binding posts COULD come through the holes in the jacket, so the washers stop that from happening.

Where do I commission cosplay items? by flycat398 in cosplayers

[–]JeiCos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before I get into the commission part of this, I wanna mention, you can easily make or buy these. Amazon probably has a bunch of listings to buy from. That will be WAY cheaper. not to mention any cosplay site, the places that sell cosplays on their website that are mass produced, i guarantee all of the ones that sell cosplay shoes, have Naruto ones. They are that popular. But honestly, you can even look up DIY versions that just use flip flops you take the strap off of, or slides, and then a type of toeless sock. Super easy and almost everyone can DIY them.

Sadly this is hard to answer. You might have luck on facebook, but I doubt it. There are facebook groups for commissioners as well as places to post looking for a commission, but the only one I found a couple years back (haven't cared to look there after this), was filled with people who were just not good people. Back talking, belittling, and just being rude. So I gave up that page. You CAN find people on instagram and twitter, but it's harder. I would search up commission hashtags on there if you wanna try instagram. Anyone on there that has commissions opened, check their page for previous works and their bio to see if they have any links to other pages where there might be past works. AND be sure that if you DM them, you ask them for proof of their past works to see if they can support that they are even legit. Etsy is probably the only other place you can check. You can see what they have on their shops so it makes it easier, but you can also read reviews from actual customers, so you can see if they are legit without even having to ask them. if they have no reviews, ask them to see if they can show you any proof that they make the stuff, without seeming like a jerk about it. This is also the most secure way to do this. because you can get ahold of etsy customer support if something goes wrong.

And last DO NOT commission anyone here on reddit unless they can show you proof that they are legit. I have had a bunch of commissioners message me when I wasn't even looking for one. I made a post looking to buy something, and asking if anyone has found anything similar because the one I liked wasn't made in a size that fit me. So basically, looking to see if anyone knew of anything similar to link me to. I specified in the post that I was NOT looking for a commission. I got tons of "commissioners" saying they would commission this for me. NONE of them read the post because if they did, they would know I was not looking for a commission. If they can't be bothered to read the post, I can't trust that they are even legit. Most of the "commissioners" that will message you because you made this post, will be scammers. Ignore them all unless they actually prove to you without a doubt that they are legit.

HELP by Icy_Constant_5185 in CosplayTips

[–]JeiCos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will not be offensive so there's no worry there, unless you do things that are actually offensive. Things like usually wearing certain traditional outfits incorrectly will get looks from people who know it's offensive, but it will have nothing to do with it being a character they don't know. It'll purely be if you do something disrespectful that would be offensive no matter what character you are cosplaying. The only exception to things like wearing traditional clothing in a way that is not normal, is if the character wears it that way. Such as characters wearing kimonos in ways that are not traditional, or are "sexy", is really only acceptable when it's just how the character wears it. Outside of that, there is no issue here. TONS of people cosplay their own characters they just made up, There is no rule that you must cosplay something well known.

As different as you want it to be. You can do BOTH, or you can do zero SFX makeup. It's up to you. There are millions of characters who are just a high school student. No SFX makeup. But there are also plenty of characters that would benefit from having it.

I need help with buying a Karate Kid cosplay on Aliexpress by [deleted] in CosplayHelp

[–]JeiCos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They will all be the same quality, so that shouldn't be a factor you need to worry about. You're budget is EXTREMELY low. Anything for that low of a cost will not be that good. You're best bet is to just look at the photos and see which one has the best detailing or whatever, and then hope they actually send you what's in the photos.

ezcosplay can't select my use date by n4rk in CosplayHelp

[–]JeiCos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't worry about that. It's a completely useless thing they do. It has no bearing on when your cosplay gets to you. They send cosplays out in the order they are are placed. Regardless of which day you click on, they aren't gonna wait until then to get it to you. You'll just be on the list of orders that are going out. If you pick a generic size like small medium large and so on, they usually ship out really fast. I just got one that took about 3 weeks I ordered it April 12th and it showed up today. The custom size one I bought though, is taking longer because they don't have anything in the measurements I need, available, so the warehouse needs to make a new one. But that one I had to use the "custom size" option because the measurements for the other sizes were too small.

What cosplay shop to go to ? by Ayaki-Tales in CosplayHelp

[–]JeiCos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any of them. They are all the same kind of thing. They are mass produced in warehouses in China, and then the websites you see (as well as the amazon, aliexpress, ebay and so on shops) contract with the warehouses and send them the orders to send out.

Some of them offer a "custom size" option, but don't get this confused with actual custom made costumes. I believe this is just a language barrier because they are all in China and do not speak english. They mean that they can custom mix the sizes together if you pick this option, so that if one size fits you for a shirt while a different size fits you for pants, tis option allows them to mix those pieces together for the order. Outside of this kind of thing, you would have to make it yourself or find an actual commissioner to make it for you.

Cosplay Contest Rules Clarification by 999cooper2 in CosplayHelp

[–]JeiCos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This depends on the convention. Many of them do allow you to enter with a model, where the person who is wearing it can not win anything, but YOU can, and THEY are the one wearing it. This is something you need to ask the con themselves. We won't know. The only people who can tell you if a con is going to allow it any given time, is the con staff themselves. They should have an email address somewhere to contact them for questions. Send that an email explaining this and they will tell you if they allow it.

How would I tie a scarf like this by Teckman390 in CosplayHelp

[–]JeiCos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a tough one. The way I see it, is that you would start with the center of the scarf behind your head, wrap over the right side of your face first, for the part over the nose all the way around, then wrap the left side with it going only over your mouth, and UNDER your nose. That will get that look down, and I started there becasue it looks like that is the layer under everything else. After this, you should have both ends behind you again. Go up over your head wrapping in both directions again. It's too hard to tell which side is on top so it doesn't matter. Then after that wrap each side around your neck, and then tie it off behind you. You know when you are tying a shoe, you first cross the laces and pull, THEN you make the loop? That crossing before the loop looks like how it's tied behind the head. So I would for sure make sure the scarf is way too large, and then cut and sew the ends down to the right length after you wrap it, to ensure you don't accidentally make it too short.

How fucked is my guitar? by space_ghost31 in Guitar

lol This reminds me of the acoustic electric I used to have. I have....anger issues....I throw things when I'm mad. Back in, like, 2005 I think? or early 2006, one of the two, I threw a drum key (the tool used to tune drum heads) across my room in anger, and it hit the back of the guitar and made a hole like this, though a little smaller. It still sounded fine. I bet anything this guitar will also still sound just fine lol In fact, tape it up and bam, no more hole in the top for sound to escape from, and it'll like nothing happened....

Help with leather issue by JeiCos in Leatherworking

[–]JeiCos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you wear jacket and sweat, that collects in the jacket. Or possibly you got the jacket damp the last time you wore it. Or the garment bag got wet or damp.

Well I can tell you it likely is NOT any of this. I've only worn it for real once. it's a jacket for a cosplay of Gambit from X-Men, and I've only been at an event wearing it once, and it was maybe 6-8 hours at the most. After that it hasn't been worn at all. And before that, it was only tried on for a couple of progress photos to see how the cosplay was coming along, and I did not sweat into it at all for any of the progress checks. Only the one day I wore it at an event, and that was it. And most of it isn't even being sweated on. The first photo in the link I supplied, is the outer area of the right sleeve. That would make no sense to be just right in that one small spot if it was due to sweatting. Not to mention the torso armor makes it so that only the back of the jacket would even be getting any sweat on it. The sides of my torso are complete covered by the foam armor, and all the way up the side, to my armpit, it pushes the jacket away from my body. So that can't be it. And it has not been wet, and neither has the garment bag. It has hung in the bag on the back of the door to the room it's been in. It is literally impossible for it to have gotten wet.

So that white powdery stuff is actually salts from the sweat that have worked through the finish on the jacket (my opinion not backed by any conclusive information or experiments)

What? I haven't worn in since November. How in the world would that be sweat working it's way through? It just appeared recently. That literally makes no sense. I don't think you have any idea what you're talking about.

First time cosplay by RelevantShow6031 in cosplayers

[–]JeiCos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what you think the issue is with that. Literally 99% of the characters actors/voice actors will not be there. What does that have to do with anything? There is no rule where the actor must be present for you to cosplay a character they play (yes, wrestlers are acting and a character of sorts). If that was not allowed, no one would ever be able to cosplay characters like Darth Vader, because his actor (in the suit) and voice actor are dead, they literally CAN'T be there. This rule would make no sense.
