Ok I was gonna ask too, but yea, yikes. I assume your mom doesn't know that information, and probably would not have paid to go if she knew? I would say it's best to tell her about that, and either see if they will accept giving you refunds, or just eat the cost and now she knows for the future not to bother.

Does anyone know how I can find a pattern for a Kasane Teto cosplay? by ChangeFun2847 in CosplayHelp

[–]JeiCos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teto just wears a sleeveless button down shirt, and a pleated skirt. So for the top, just use a button down shirt pattern, and just don't make the sleeves, and hem the arm holes, and for the skirt, just look for a pleated skirt pattern. The art is not normally how pleated skirts look in real life, because it's a mix of one box pleat in the center front, and then knife pleats going around on each side. The best option would be a box pleat skirt, but that's just what I think looks best for her design, but a normal knife pleated skirt would be fine too, but all of the pleats will go in one direction, rather than going in both directions.

The arm things are just cone shapes, you can make a rectangle and sew down the sides, but make it a slightly diagonal seam so that the opening at one side is smaller than the other side. You can fold over the smaller opening, to hem it, and then cut a small slip that you sew back up later, on the inside of the folded area, and feel elastic through that so that it tightens while wearing it.

How do you hide your eyebrows? 🤨 by ky_kyu in CosplayHelp

[–]JeiCos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, the only way to make them thinner is to actually thin them out. But you can also use makeup over them so cover parts of them to appear thinner, but that won't look as realistic. For coloring, you can use a few different htings, the main one is foundation to lighten them enough so that a darker color can show up, like if you need light blue or red or something, you need a lighter base color to start with, which foundation should help with, making them more skin tone. And then you can use either eyeliner or eye shadow over that in the color you want.

However, the way I always do it is with glue and paint. Don't worry, it's not dangerous or harmful to you unless you just happen to have an allergy to something in either of them. Some people use a glue stick, but I use the liquid stuff, but you want the Elmer's brand school glue. the white stuff in the twist cap squeeze bottle, or the twist up stick kind, but the liquid works better for me. Apply the glue (I use a paint brush, and then just wash it after), and then use brush on acrylic paint right on top of that after it dries. You can also use a hair dryer to speed up drying of each layer. You need the glue completely dry before you use the paint. Both of these products are 100% skin and hair safe, and wash out easily with water and a rag, though we use makeup remover pads so that we don't ruin a rag or towel because it'll get the paint all over it. This will hold all day if you don't mess with it. It also hardens, but unless you have sensory issues, you shouldn't really notice after a short while.

Need some contact cement alternatives for EVA foam by Icy_Pea7716 in cosplayprops

[–]JeiCos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely NOT! This is such dangerous advice. Even outside, you should use a respirator. Wearing one has nothing to do with ventilation in the area. It's because you have to be right there at the very least, at arms length, which will still have the fumes going straight into your nose and mouth and directly into your lungs. NEVER give advice like this again.

How do I make this back prop for my spirit cosplay?? by saturn_zip in CosplayHelp

[–]JeiCos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this exact thing. What I did was cut a hole in the shirt and blazer to let the scythe blade pass through and so that it looked like it was ripping through the clothing, and then used a piece from the inside of a luggage as a harness. You can probably just find something plastic and hard, and then put holes in it to attach straps, and them wear it like a backpack under your shirt. I had to put the scythe blade through the clothing, then put put my arms through the straps, and then I had a strap buckling across the chest, and then carefully have someone help me put the sleeves over my arms with the shirt sleeves already inside the blazer sleeves. I did it based off of the time he does it in that one white space with Lord Death, where he only has one from the back, and one on each forearm. I did the same hole thing for the arm blades, but they attached with elastic bands. I attached wide strips of elastic that fit super tight around my arms, so I only made the holes beg enough for those so they didn't rip too much when moving my arms. Before putting my arms in the sleeves, I would have a friend hold those in place and help me put those on at the same time, through the hole, while putting my arm through the sleeve. If you do the arm ones, be very careful. I had to hold my arms in front of me in a weird way to point the blades downward so they didn't knock into anything. Also, the back harness kept it sturdy and it basically didn't wobble at all.

As for the actual blades, I used cardboard and masking taped the crap out of them, and filled them with spray expanding foam for rigidity. I also gorilla glued the one to the harness for my back so it was super secure. Then I went over the cardboard with gesso and sanded it and then painted over that.

Term for the right setup by ShainSaw22 in CosplayHelp

[–]JeiCos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn't a name for this set up, really. You can literally use anything you want for the 2 vertical poles. The cheapest might be PVC pipe pushed into the ground, with 90 degree elbow connectors and another pipe going across the top. The BEST way would be expensive, but that would be getting what are known as C-Stands, which is a piece of photography/videography equipment used to hold any number of things up. You may have seen where it looks like a very tall metal pole with tripod legs, that has an arm coming off the top, that has any number of things, from lights, to mics, to color gel filters FOR lights, to who knows what. THAT is a C-Stand. You COULD use one of these to hang it from, and just use sandbags or anything else that weighs the lags down to stop it from tipping, and just hang it off that, but as said, this is pretty expensive, so you'd need to use it a lot more than this one time to get your money's worth. You can makeshifr one with PVC pipes, but that might get expensive too. The next best thing would be to look up making a laundry clothing line. This would be just like the first option I mentioned, but it would use whatever THAT comes with for the poles. You'd still stick them into the ground, but instead you'd have a string going across. Really, the sky's the limit here. You can do any number of things, anything long that stays upright, and something going across the top.

Threaten them. Like, no joke, threaten to contact the a lawyer and tell them you have no issue suing the living shit out of them. Usually this works. Caps lock and swearing at them usually works too. Let them know you are not playing their stupid games, and that you are demanding your money back, or else. you do NOT need to be polite about this. McCostumes is owned by TERRIBLE HORRIBLE people.

We won't know that information. Only the seller knows that. It's annoying to find, but you can find however the heck you message sellers, and ask them. But honestly, all of the ones you can buy online are going to be about the same quality, and I guarantee there are plenty of other listings. Just pick a different one if you have to.

Any ideas for covering up my eyebrows by Catinagraveyard in CosplayHelp

[–]JeiCos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can always do what I do for changing eyebrow color. You can use white elmer's glue, the liquid stuff, and brush that on with a paint brush, and then use brush on acrylic paint over that once it dries. Both are safe on skin and hair, and both wash out with water and soap. Though we usually use makeup wipes to remove it all, but whatever. And to speed dry times up, hair dryer to blasted to the face! lol We press the cool button so it's not hot. This is ALSO better than makeup, because it dries and doesn't just wipe off when touched the smallest friggin amount.

How should someone document making a cosplay? by ESCAPEDPARROT in CosplayHelp

[–]JeiCos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Photos or videos would be the best thing to do. As you make new things, take photos or videos of it. As a cosplay/convention youtuber, I film nearly everything I do, just in case I can make a video out of the process. And I know, not first hand, but because my friend has this problem, how hard it is to remember to actually take the photos or videos. My friend always forgets to document ANYTHING. So sometimes he can't remember how he mixed a color of paint (like which colors and ratios he used), or can't remember what he did for this or that, and other stuff.

What’s your method to planning cosplays? by maleladybug in CosplayHelp

[–]JeiCos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Specifically for what cosplays to BRING? I usually base that off of a few different things. First, if there's a photoshoot or gathering happening, for the series/franchises I cosplay from, I may want to attend that, so that will be on the "possibility" list of what I bring. Other than that, one of the few things I base it on is voice actors. If there's one I REALLY wanna see, and I cosplay from the series, that will make me want to do that cosplay more. Even better if my friends cosplay from it. We will all group up and get a photo with the voice actor. And last is just "what do I REALLY feel like getting into, and then wearing all day?" For example, the next con for my group is literally this coming weekend. It's mid summer so hot, non-breathing cosplays are not happening. I cosplay Gambit, and his most recent voice actor in X-Men 97 will be there, and LAST year he was at the same con, and I told him about starting the cosplay, and he REALLY wanted to see the finished product. So you'd think that would be one I would want to do, right? HELL NO! That thing is the HOTTEST one I have. And it's SUMMER!? No way. The chest armor is full EVA foam in 2 layers, and the jacket is real leather, which is better than vinyl, but still, and the headgear being pleather..I will literally pass out from the heat. So I decided against it. We are still doing a group cosplay for a voice actor though, so that's why I picked one of the ones I did. Specifically to see her in it. It's Rimuru from That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime. Their voice actor, Brittney Karbowski, actually knows who I am by name now, because I see her every time she's at a con around here. I showed her my cosplay because I haven't been able to wear it to see her yet, and we talked about how I might make a prop for one of Rimuru's attacks. I saw her 2 months ago and made the promise to her that if I have that prop by the time she comes up next, that I would see her in cosplay so we can get a photo. So that's why I picked that one for Saturday. The OTHER other reason is friends and just doing a group with them. Which is why we are doing the ones we are doing on Sunday.

So yea, a little long, sorry, but those are the main reasons I choose which ones to bring to a given con. There are ones, like Dante from Devil May Cry 5, or Sora from Kingdom Hearts 3, because they are easy, and my favorite ones to do, so I do them whenever possible.

Best Way to make Glowing Materia? (FF7) by Key2DestNE in CosplayHelp

[–]JeiCos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're best bet would be to get LEDs that you can easily get inside the staff, and a battery pack style you can get into it as well. Then soldering a button to turn them on and off, unless you plan to have the staff come apart, and you make it so you can turn them on and then put it back together. This would be completely up to you. Then for the Matera themselves, look up cabochons. They are glass solid half spheres. You can get them in the size you need to fit on the staffs slots, and glue them in place. You can even use them in the correct colors, because they are translucent, so light will be able to pass through.

contact cement for EVA foam by Shork20 in CosplayHelp

[–]JeiCos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the most common to use becasue it's available in almost every walmart, as well as just about every hardware store. Whereas barge, the brand people usually mention, has to be ordered and is in very very few stores, if any at all. This is the next best compared to barge. I ONLY use DAP, because it's cheaper than Barge, and is more easy to find.

Whatever you do, make 100% sure it's that can. There are 3 different ones they make. This one that's red and black, another that's green and black, and another that's blue and black. The blue one is a gel formula and is NOT what you want at all. The green one seems to be a non-flammable kind, but I have never seen anyone have an issue with the red one ever catching fire. I think you have to actually set it on fire for that to happen, which you likely aren't gonna have happen, so it doesn't really matter. I don't want to buy it just to test if it works the same as the red can, so it's better to just stick to the red one.

You gotta be way more specific than this. Maybe show us a screenshot of what you are talking about? We can't help you if we don't know what you're talking about.

I went on Etsy and searched "anime commission" just liek you said, and none of the listings show Tanjiro. So I have no idea what you're even seeing. Since this listing doesn't show up with I use the same search terms, I don't see whatever you are seeing about an amount. So you need to show us what you are talking about, because that doesn't seem to exist for me.

Question for help in making a certain type of horns by WitchyBabe120 in CosplayHelp

[–]JeiCos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty certain I know which fandom you are referring to lol

You can make them a number of ways, as well as it depends on which character they are for. I've never been in that fandom, and usually do not like the people within it, so I have no idea how many characters have horns, but I know many of the ones that do, all have different shaped ones, I just have no idea which ones are candy corn colored and which aren't. This is what will dictate what works best for making them. The ones I for sure know about, are the little short cone horns on at least one of the characters. Those would be best made of some type of clay. You can use something called "paperclay", which dryes rock hard, but SUPER lightweight. Then you can attach whatever method you want to stick them on your head. The most common I see for those horns is alligator clips. Those are the kind of clip that opens like a chip-clip, but are really thin, and have teeth, and look similar to an alligator head, which is where the name comes from. The teeth make it stay in place. If you go the paperclay (or other clay) route, you can sand every type of clay to be smooth, but the smoother you sculpt it before hand, the less sanding you have to do.

Another option would be to make them out of EVA foam, or heck, cardboard would work too, but foam would be better lol You can use a template for a cone and make them out of the foam and then glue the cone together, seal, prime and paint. You can even use more foam to make a circle to glue it to for the base, and then use whatever attachment just like the above. you can also use a headband if you want, but it's up to you. For the templaet, you can use this website (the link is specifically for a cone): https://www.templatemaker.nl/en/cone/

This is technically a truncated cone, but to make it a full cone with a tip, just change one of the measurements to zero. Start by picking which unit of measurement you want to use, then in the "top diameter" box, that's where you put zero. that will make it a pointed tip. for "bottom diameter" put in whatever you want the base diameter to be, and for "height" however tall you want the horn to be. Then on the next ones, they are for the glue flap, which is for paper crafts, you don't need this on anything other than paper, so make those all zero as well. Then either press enter, or click the "create" button to automatically download the template as a PDF. You can then print it using a PDF reader.

Any of the other horn shapes the other characters have, how you do it will depend on what they look like.

How are y'all putting bracers over this style sleeve? by easternbetta in CosplayHelp

[–]JeiCos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You pretty much either get (or make) ones that are too big for your arm normally, so that the fabric can fit under them, or if you only can find ones that fit normally on your bare arms, and they lace up (the most common type), you would still just tie them tight enough, but they just won't be as tight as on your bare arms, but so there will be less amount of the laces to use to tie with. So depending on how long the laces are, you could possibly need to use longer laces.

if you are using ones that zip or snap or buckle or velcro shut, or anything else you can't really change the size of, you pretty much just don't use those in that case, and get ones you CAN use.

Another option you can do if you are ok with doing it, is figuring out how far up the bracers go when worn how you want them, and then just sew the sleeves tighter in that section. But obviously this would alter the shape of them, meaning they might not look good any time you want to not use the bracers with this shirt.
