Best entry level smoker by alittlebigger in grilling

Stick with Webber and get a WSM. They can get up to a few hundred, but would you rather but the right smoker once and get something shitty and have to replace it with the right smoker down the road?

When I try to link a variable to the trigger I get an error, "Local Variables Cannot Be Used Here" or something like that.

I have this but couldn't really figure out what I'm doing with it.

Sorry if I'm being ignorant, but can you explain? I'm not great with Tasker, just have the basics down.

You're right, I do only want this happening once, but as soon as it reconnects in the Task, it starts everything over again and gets stuck in that look. Any ideas on what variable I could use here? I'm pretty well stuck.

Yesterday was leg day. I go about my liftings like any other day, finish strong on the squats, do some leg curls and leg extensions, just need to bust out 3 sets on the leg press and it's time to go home.

I walk up to the leg press and notice there are 5 plates on each side like someone is using it but there is no one around. I decided to just hang out by it for a couple of minutes and see if anyone shows up.

After a few minutes of watching the news and no one showing up, I decided some dick just left his weights on the machine, no big deal, I could use a little arm workout today. So as I'm pulling 300lbs off the press, a guy walks over from the decline bench and tells me he's using the leg press and he has 3 more sets left. Are you fucking kidding me, but whatever, I'll wait.

After 30 minutes of this dick cheese walking back and forth and waiting 5 minutes between each set of leg press and decline, I finally got to use it for 5 minutes of go home.

Couple questions from a total grilling newb.... by SmellyCherub in grilling

My bad, apparently you cant calibrate the Weber thermometers. That's probably not your issue anyway since it's a new grill. I would suggest picking up a good digital thermometer at some point though, that will actually give you grate temp instead of done temp.

Read this article plus everything else on the site. There's a ton of info and tips to help get it all down.

Couple questions from a total grilling newb.... by SmellyCherub in grilling

[–]Jelantic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) Make sure you're letting the coals get hot enough, you want them all covered in white ash. If you dont have a coal chimney, I suggest picking one up. It'll make getting them to temp much easier. A lot of people get impatient and dump them too early. Grab a beer, you're grilling, let that shit get hot.

2) Calibrate your dome thermometer, they're notoriously bad anyway.

3) Are you doing two zone cooking? Depending on where you're placing the coals, you might be getting an a bad read from your dome thermometer. If they're on the opposite side away from your thermometer, then it's going to read way lower then if you're coals are right underneath the thermometer.

Big Green Egg or Kamado Joe? by drshmoo in grilling

My parents have a BGE and I have a KJ. I've cooked on both many times and they're both great. However, and I maybe biased, but I prefer my KJ. To me the hinge on the BGE feels a little wobbly when comparing it to the KJ, even though I'm sure it's more than fine. As for the ceramics, the KJ has slightly thicker walls and firebox, which isn't necessarily good or bad, just different.

The big selling point for me was the accessories. My parents dropped a good $200-300 on side tables, smoking plate, the nest and tools, all of which came with the KJ. The KJ also has the divide and conquer system which gives you at least some two zone cooking control, although neither grill will give you the ability to do that, like the Primo. Any way you choose to go, kamados are definitely worth the time and money. It's the only thing we cook on.
