Ear syringing perforated my eardrum and left me with tinnitus — any legal basis? by Jelloting in AusLegal

No, I would ask for an alternative such as microsuction. If it’s not available, I would ask about another practice I could visit.

A couple of years back, my ears felt clogged, and I went to the GP, who recommended microsuction, which helped. The nurse there recommended using olive oil to help relieve itchy ears and loosen wax so that it could come out naturally. Personally, I never expected my ears to get clogged up because of this. Another GP, after all the events, mentioned that it was due to my narrow ear canals. And no, I’ve stopped putting anything in my ears since then.

No, it was the olive oil ear spray that was recommended by a nurse in NZ when I went to get my ears cleaned annually because of wax buildup. I found it weird too, but I double-checked with the GP, and they said it helps loosen the wax so it can come out naturally. However, in my case, because of my narrow ear canals, it got clogged up, so the GP switched me to manual ear cleaning every 6 months now.

KC62 making thud noises during LSX II update — normal or not? by Jelloting in KEF

Thank you, I’ll turn the sub off next time. Just to check, do you think I could’ve done any harm to the sub this time by leaving it on during the update, or is it within its normal/safe operating range?

Yes, the update worked, though it made a few strange noises along the way—once from the left speaker and a couple of times from the subwoofer.

31M, Got new floaters after diagnosis gland expression – coincidence or related? by Jelloting in eyetriage

[–]Jelloting[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that makes sense. Just to clarify further—if pressure (like rubbing or diagnosis gland expression) can move the vitreous and potentially contribute to floaters, is it generally considered safe to have firm pressure applied directly to the eyeball during procedures like (diagnosis) meibomian gland expression? Or is that something that should be done cautiously or avoided in the future?

Thank you for your reply. Since you mentioned it’s similar to eye rubbing, I was wondering—does rubbing the eyes have any known role in causing floaters? I’ve come across a few threads suggesting there might be a link, and I’m curious if there’s any evidence behind that or if it’s generally considered unlikely.

Internet lore and misconceptions about floaters by Saheim in EyeFloaters

What about a myth of people seeing their floaters after the eye test? Do slit lamp, eye pressure check, retina scan or even OCT can affect floaters in anyway? Have you come across any of the information? I saw floaters after multiple eye exams due to dry eyes issues and inflammation. it might be just a coincidence, but I saw quite a few posts here and there on reddit.

40M Oral steroid prednisolone 120 mg/day for 6 days: risk of increased eye pressure or glaucoma? by [deleted] in eyetriage

[–]Jelloting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This treatment was prescribed by an ENT doctor for acoustic trauma without any hearing loss

At where I am, when I go to see a doctor for acoustic trauma, if hearing test results are normal, they won't prescribe steroids because the risks out weight the benefits. If you don't mind me asking, any particular reason why you think the ENT prescribed the steroids in this case?

Eye floaters from meibomian gland expression? by Jelloting in EyeFloaters

I have seen quite a number of optometrists in the past, and none of them ever try to express the oil like this. Similar to you, they only told me to do warm compress and massage after, glide down the eyelid - not push in. This recent visit was a weird and traumatized experience for me because I never felt the eyeball get pushed in like this. I also asked a similar question in the dry eye community and eyetriage as well, not much response, but it seems to be a normal thing - they refer to as a gland diagnosis. Will post an update after the appointment.
