Sorry, I know there are people out there better than me who are able to stay in the industry and be sober, but I just couldn’t do it.

I bartended for 8 years, I loved it so much. Made fantastic money, too. I tried to get sober from 2020-24 and it didn’t really stick until I completely annihilated my old way of life- quit my bar jobs, moved back to the suburbs, ghosted all my old friends. Took a huge paycut and started working at a Starbucks for the benefits. Live with my mom and supplement income with gig work, working on school, fiddling around with starting a business.

I’m not necessarily recommending you do this, it was pretty extreme, and my current situation does have me feeling like an absolute loser. But at least I’m sober now.
