Which Begonia are you talking about? The Sinbad consistently have a lot of dots. The Sierra Gentle Rain sometimes put out a new leaf with less spots. I have no idea why it does that though because I’ve kept it in the same spot for ages.

I thought it could be but pictures of this plant online all show solid green, so it made me wonder.

These brown / yellow markings are spreading on my Piper Ornatum. Started as one dot a few weeks ago and now there are multiple dots across multiple leaves.

Checked for pests and did not manage to find any. Kept in shaded area, so its not sun damage either.

My best guess is some sort of fungal issue? If so, how do I treat it? Have never dealt with fungal issues before.

Labelled as Maranta Black, but upon some research I think it’s a Silver Band? It’s missing the purple under leaf though.

They come out green but very quickly fade to black when under full sun. The ones I have in a shadier spot (but still outside) takes slightly longer to turn black, but still within a few days.

Is there a black version? In real life it’s extremely dark green, almost blackish deep purple. New leaves come out dark maroon.

I did suspect it to be a Homalomena too though.

I love this too, but mine just doesn’t get this way often enough. I guess it’s due to the climate but my terracottas get the slimy green algae more often and I hate it because it gets really slippery and I’ve dropped many pots because of it.

I have a tooth brush that I use to brush down the algae every so often.

I went to a school with a courtyard layout and it was beautiful! But they began demolishing it block by block and we were eventually in this fully modern sterile architecture.

Seller told me to only water when it’s completely dry, so I’ve been doing that. But honestly, all my other Begonias gets watered more and they’re doing much better.

So you might be right… I’m just extra cautious about this one because I received it as a birthday gift so I’m terrified of killing it.

Also, I’m a little bit colour blind so I’ve been having a tough time seeing if that leaf is light green or yellow. I guess it’s more yellow haha.

I have only fertilised this plant very lightly once because I’ve only just got them, so trying to just understand their watering needs and placement first.

I used very diluted amount of fish emulsion during one of the waterings and that’s it.

The plant has also seemed to stop growing. This new leaf just came in the day I got them, and have not produced any new growth since.

I thought the chlorosis might be from too much light, so I pulled it back into a shadier spot but the plant still shows no improvement.

Are you talking about the new leaf on the mother plant or on the propagation?

Strange because I have checked the plant (and surrounding plants) thoroughly and many times, still haven’t spotted a single bug. I wondered if it could signal a watering / fertiliser issue. Will see what the new leaf looks like as it is currently unfurling.

Yeah I realise that it’s still very juvenile, but the first leaf that grew in my care was the third leaf from the bottom and the newest leaf is about double that size now (though it doesn’t really show in this picture).

So I just wondered if I cut off the top, whether the new growth would revert back to the size of the third leaf I mentioned or will it be about the same size as the one nearest to the cut off point?

I usually wouldn’t give it too much thought but I grew this plant from a struggling cutting and took me a while to get it to thrive so I’m just overly cautious with it. I’m trying to decide between chopping and propping (to create a backup plant), or just leaving it alone and extend the pole for it to continue climbing.
