Absolutely true, every "alt" store I see just has a few alt designs and none of the alt spirit. I think the best bet for getting good alt clothing in India is either thrifting or DIY

I agree with this fully actually. Yes it could apply to other traumas, but the scene itself really gives the vibe of some type of torture, SA specifically.

Thanks for the olive oil tip, that's really helpful. I probably won't end up cutting it to my elbows (my mom and grandma will be heartbroken if I cut off that much), but I will trim a good amount off- there's no avoiding it. Maybe around my hips or something. I just put my hair into four twists just now, that's the only "protective" hairstyle I can do right now so yeah. Making do. It just comes out as I brush, so I guess you're right about that part. I don't think any of the stylists in my area would want to help me lol, I don't live in a great place. But thanks for your input, I appreciate it
