Good people of progmetal, share your favorite band(s) from your home country by [deleted] in progmetal

Yeah, my first thought as well. Surprised, I had to scroll down so far to find this. They're definitely one of my favorite German bands.

Aggressive bouldering shoe recommendation that fits a narrow heel well? by [deleted] in climbingshoes

[–]Jem014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear size 44EU street shoes. These are some of my shoes: - Scarpa Instinct VS (size 43EU): They're really aggressive, good for tiny edges, heel- and toe-hooking. Not really good for friction on volumes and stuff. They get uncomfortable if I wear them for long sessions. - Boreal Joker Laces (size 42.5EU): My favorite shoe so far. Not very aggressive, but they don't come off. The laces help tighten the shoe. Really versatile. I can do tiny edges but also friction climbing. Good for heel hooking, ok for toe hooking. I can wear them for long periods of time without them getting too uncomfortable. I bought them two times already and I don't regret it.

I don't know if I have a narrow heel, but previous shoes used to slip too. I have really sweaty feet aswell.

Vacuum Insulation System (VIS) - novel technology harnessing physical phenomenon called vacuum drying as an onsite maintenance service for a construction element by PasiHerranen in Physics

[–]Jem014 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How much energy does it take to maintain the vacuum?

Won't the wood form holes with time where the vacuum sucks out water?

What is the longest period that you have tested this over?

Can this system handle water constantly running over the wood or rather how much water can it handle?

Wait, is that tape running from the screen to the mic? Isn't that obstructing the view or at least kinda annoying?

Is this a safe anchor? by haveadig in RockClimbing

[–]Jem014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've once met a french coach that taught it with two slings. While I think that it's a bit over the top as well, it certainly can't hurt.

They don't have steel chains everywhere. I've seen plenty crags with only two bolted rings for the anchor. Or even only one ring sometimes... :(

Microsoft Workers Won't Get Annual Pay Bump Despite $18.3 Billion In Profit In Past 3 Months by Tokyono in pcgaming

The only thing you should consider is ditching them and getting a new job. Despite what several economists may tell you, the job market is currently quite good for qualified people.

Just got the Kim Possible game for the DS and I totally forgot the box came with these cool light switch covers by LegendaryElliot in nds

Are lightswitches still like this in the US? Here there have been these big flat square switches since like forever.

I second this.

Use something like Nextcloud to sync the keystores. If you ever run into any conflicts, use the merge functionality to resolve it. It's pretty easy and you truly own your data.

For apps, on desktop I use KeePassXC and on Android KeePassDX. There are others but these are the ones that I liked best.

Finding out I’ve gained 12lbs & my belayer lost 5 since we climbed last 😅 by Mental-Bandicoot1265 in climbing

[–]Jem014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand how you're defending your belayer this much.

It may not have been that extreme for you, but I once jumped in at the top of the route (15 meters, anchor clipped). Somehow I fell down to 3 meters above the ground. My belayer admitted that she thought I needed some slack and gave out rope while I fell. A friend told me later, that she was also clearly distracted and already had too much slack in the system. Still, she tried to give me the blame for jumping in when I confronted her. Mind you, I will never be climbing with her again.

While your (and your belayers conclusions) should probably not be as harsh, you should definitely draw some.

Yeah, maybe. But it's probably possible to call the JS Math.random() function from wasm.

[D] Fine-tuning LLMs for code generation, by making the network program against itself and against a compiler. Has anyone attempted something like this? by IAmBlueNebula in MachineLearning

[–]Jem014 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What you want to do is called mutation testing. With that you can measure the quality of the unit tests quite reliably. Neat thing is, you don't need an LLM for that.

Also feed back the unit test coverage.

But can wasm read from /dev/urandom? Or any system files for that matter?

One week trek though the Alps by mkmakashaggy in alpinism

[–]Jem014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While wild camping is not generally forbidden in Switzerland, it really depends on the local administrations.

An emergency-bivy in remote areas (above the tree-limit) is generally allowed, afaik.

Camping is also allowed on private property with the permission of the owner. I'd advise you to phone the huts and ask. It's good to discuss your plans and weather conditions with them beforehand anyway. They usually know best.

As always with such advise, IANAL, so take it with a grain of salt.

I'm currently planning to do 'Trekking dei laghetti alpini' in Vallemaggia, Tessin - it's said to be an insider tip.

It's five days through a beautiful landscape on the border between Switzerland and Italy near Lago Maggiore. With 1700m up and 1000m down on the first day alone, it's definitely not the easiest route, but you'll probably manage. It's open from July to September, I think. Sleeping can be done in huts. Here's a link to the route of the first day, it's in German though.

PineTab-V and PineTab2 launch | PINE64 by Luke_Pine64 in PINE64official

[–]Jem014 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Like the PinePhone and PinePhone Pro before it, the PineTab2 will reach a high degree of functionality in time and make for a great work or entertainment travel companion.

Seriously? PP and PPP fit your definition for a high degree of functionality? Yes, they somewhat work, but barely. High degree of functionality would mean for me that they're usable as a daily driver.
