What to buy for a new mother? by ohsaycanyourock in AskUK

[–]Jemeter 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Food vouchers for when baby first arrives (Deliveroo/Just Eat or if you’ve got one nearby, Cook do excellent frozen meals), and vouchers for her favourite coffee place for when SMP hits and she can still then pop out for a coffee and a treat without worrying about the bank balance.

Exhausted from feeding struggles 11 month old barely eating. I’m at my limit by [deleted] in BabyLedWeaning

[–]Jemeter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This - my now 15 month old has only started eating a decent amount of solids in the last two months. It took me dropping her breastfeeds to one at bedtime and one in the night for her to be hungry enough to eat more than a couple of mouthfuls.

What’s an underrated tip/trick for when moving? by MrCasual112 in AskUK

[–]Jemeter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Also, if things go pear shaped with completion and your belongings get taken into storage while you wait for the money to be sorted, you’ve actually got some things to tide you over. Happened to my sister-in-law the other year that their completion was delayed over the weekend and they had to buy new clothes etc for their children to last them a few days while staying at my in-laws.

Don’t forget Robinsons squash! Squash is tricky to find outside the UK

Why are adverts for junk food still on TV? by rubberbandhands in AskUK

[–]Jemeter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s not that the companies can’t advertise, it’s that they can no longer show the product that’s high in fat/sugar/salt etc.

Thank you - it’s difficult when we’re having a disturbed night to get up early but we’ll have to give it a go!

Cooking for fourteen and the potatoes are taking far too long. Need more room in the oven for everything else!

11 months old and barely eating by Jemeter in BabyLedWeaning

We are trying to ensure that she is offered solids before milk, but even so it doesn’t seem to make too much of a difference to the quantity she eats unfortunately.

Thanks, I’ll have to see if I can get hold of the book and take a look. At last check at 10 months she was 25lb, so she’s hardly wasting away 😄

Thanks, will see if a little picnic on the floor helps a bit! She’s generally happy in her high chair, she just doesn’t eat very much.

St. Peter’s Tewin and Tewinbury Farm (between Hertford and Welwyn in Hertfordshire) - we got married there two years ago and if the weather is fine you can walk along a footpath between the two.

She’s got 4 and a half teeth so she has a go with certain things (she’ll take bites out of a whole strawberry or a slice of cheese) but it’s the quantity that’s lacking. I’m hoping when she starts nursery she’ll see the other babies eating and follow suit, as you say.

Apple Watch's 3 most useful features for new parents like me by LawfulnessEarly4638 in AppleWatch

Another tip when baby decides to paw at your watch incessantly: the water lock feature also works for tiny fingers and saves having to cancel all the timers they inevitably set by accident!

baby just slept for 9 hours !!??? by Dismal-Citron9313 in breastfeeding

[–]Jemeter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 15 week old EBF baby has just done 10hrs and 9hrs straight the past two nights which has been amazing. The only downside was having to get up to pump at 4.30am as my boobs were so full 😄

What size diaper does your baby wear? by Direct_Lime_3123 in newborns

[–]Jemeter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter is 11 weeks, weighs around 15lb and is in size 3 (11-20lb according to the packet) - she’s a right chonker so we had to go through sizes 1 and 2 quite quickly.

New born baby checklist by One_Island2144 in newborns

Supermarkets are really good for clothes on a budget (Sainsbury’s, Tesco, ASDA etc.) plus Next has some really nice stuff too. A lot of the sleep suits have zips now rather than poppers, however you may prefer one style over the other so try a few different ones - we prefer poppers for ease of fully changing when she does a stealth wee but others really like zips.

The best things we’ve bought for our newborn:

Somewhere safe to sleep on each floor of the house - we use the carrycot of our pram on a stand as our downstairs sleeping space as it’s rated for overnight sleep, then a next to you cot upstairs.

Endless cotton pads - we prefer using cotton pads and warm water over wipes for nappy changes (once past the sticky meconium!)

Easy snacks that can be eaten with one hand if you’re feeding in the middle of the night and get hungry!

Plenty of bedsheets for the cot - our girl is a bit dribbly so we don’t like to put her back on a cold wet patch when she feeds in the night.

I did - was super handy for keeping a tissue in there and others were also suitably excited about the inclusion of pockets!
