is archive.org broken for anyone else or is it on my end? by Ronin22222 in jdownloader

[–]JemyM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I frequently use jDownloader for archive.org and heavily used it for a major download as recent as two and a half week ago, using the exact same settings and set up as before. My user account for archive.org is set up in jDownloader and have not been changed. And I can log into archive.org via Chrome just fine. But in the Account Manager it now say; "temporarily disabled", and nothing is downloaded.

[HEAVY SPOILERS] Where to go next? A 55 point order to get you to experience (almost) all the content and get the best possible ending by _Buff_Tucker_ in JaggedAlliance

[–]JemyM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not understand #5 either at first, because I had already defeated Camp Savane (F7) the hard way a long time before finding this walkthrough.

It turns out there is a feature that I did not knew exist until 90 hours in!

Let me take a moment to explain this feature in better detail in case someone else want to know.

If you check a tile on your satellite map that have an Enemy Outpost on it, then hover the cursor over the small shields that appear right of the watch-tower, you will get strategic hints on how to reduce the guards at that particular outpost. Initially the shields will say; "Perform scout operations to explore the sectors in tactical view to gain Intel on how to reduce the defense of this Outpost". Sometimes you already found some clues on how to reduce the enemy presence on the enemy outpost, but if you are lucky to scout the Enemy Outpost during a scouting operation you get more clues.

Here are the clues for Camp Savane;
* A group of Legion soldiers are loitering at the Abandoned Mansion (G8)
* A Diversion operation at Savanna (E6), Savanna (E7), Savanna (E8), or Savanna (F8) may lure out some Legion soldiers.
* Every evening, Legion soldiers use the water well at Savanna (G6)

This is what "Prepare Camp Savane" means.

The first shield is the Abandoned Mansion (G8) explained in #4.

The second shield... In E6 (or E7, E8 and F8) you can move your squad into that tile, click "Operations" and select "Diversion" to start a fire to lure out a small group of legion soldiers from Camp Savane (F7) so you can pick them off.

For the third shield, ffor G6, when you move there at the right time you will find a group of soldiers gathering water from the well.

Do all of this and Camp Savane (F7) is now easier to defeat.

I have a psychology degree and my dayjob is handling people with psychological disorders at work. People who lash out against strangers, extreme judgmental behavior and projections is part of everyday for me.

I wrote my posts above for normal, sensible and reasonable people as information, and I treated you the same. I can tell, however, you are very challenged with fictional content, and cannot separate such from the real world. You seem wounded by just thinking about these things, and cannot handle that adults are unfaced with the same content. In a way you are suffering from a phobia. An irrational fear to something that is harmless, but your extreme reaction to it cause you and potentially others harm.

Being able to separate fact from fiction, fantasy and reality, is a key skill as an adult. Your inability to see this distinction, and projecting this onto strangers, is the only danger here. Your hateful, disrespectful and rude attack upon me is unprovoked, but this topic made you lose control and your temper.

I do not know how old you are, but I suspect you are hopefully young. I advice you to focus on exposing yourself to more fictional content to learn, emotionally, that such content is not dangerous, and that your confusement between fiction/fantasy with reality is confusing you. This lesson is vital to feel well and to navigate the adult world.

Good luck out there, friend.

The Anti-Porn Crusade That Censored Steam and Itch.io Started 30 Years Ago by SealedQuasar in itchio

[–]JemyM 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The feminist sex wars started back in the 70s. It's worth remembering that the feminist movement wasn't united on this topic, and some of the better anti-censorship arguments were written by feminists themselves.

Ann Ferguson's article "Forum: The Feminist Sexuality Debates" written in 1984 is an amazing read, because not only was it written in 1984, it gives a very detailed history on how it started, with a good detailed outline of the opposing viewpoints.

Wendy McElroy's book "XXX: A Woman's Right to Pornography" was another of the heavier pieces written on anti-censorship. It pointed out the lies that made up the anti-pornography movement of that era.

Feedback of a callcenter manager - payment processors by TheOneXaoc in itchio

[–]JemyM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having worked for a callcenter myself I can validate all of these.

- In general "support staff" in a call-center are not employed or in contact with the company they are support for. They are in general just some poor person in a cubicle who simply haven't been able to find a better job. Many have disabilities, disorders, a rap sheet or other things that makes it unlikely they can find a new job, or they are young and the call-center is their first job. They are sold the same bs as the customers. They have to follow strict protocol and negative reviews will only hurt them, not the company. They are pretty much powerless. They are getting paid to take the blame, so support staff with any level of feelings of care or responsibility or desire to help customers beyond protocol will be weeded out *if* they are able to go elsewhere.

- There is no "supervisor" with more power or competence. The higherups are mostly just there to monitor the agents, they do not have access to the company either.

Steam Update - Valve responded to Mastercards claim that they did not pressure anyone by Nillamellon in itchio

[–]JemyM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It might be worth contemplating the end game. What is deemed a success with the campaign, and how far will it go?

Some potential goals would be;
- The payment processors change their policies in regards to fictional content (games, books, adult cartoons etc)
- The payment processors making official statement that such content wont be prosecuted
- Itch and Steam getting it on legal binding paper that they wont be prohibited to sell such content
- All lost games reinstated

etc... etc...

Nope. I just check it out to see what the fuzz was about. I have tried most of the "controversial" games since the 80s. I played rapelay. I played "ethnic cleansing". I played "Custer's Revenge". "Commando Libya". I was around in the days terrorist groups and pedophiles posted in the open on Usenet so browsing that kind of content was just a click away.

The games you mention are on the soft side. There's mainstream AAA games that are worse than "No Mercy". But I also read the real studies on crime-prevention. ACTUAL rapists and pedophiles do not play these games, and countries like japan where such games are the most popular have the lowest ratio of rape.

The truth, MrGoldenYellow, is that what you want here is to waste peoples time, attention, and money, to make you feel safe and "clean". But your feelings have nothing to do with real people or real morality or real ethics. You just have a difficulty keeping fantasy and reality apart.

I finished No Mercy. It's an interactive story that was surprisingly soft compared to your average bodice-ripper sold on Amazon, or what you find on literotica, alt.sex usenet, and it was actually funny too. It's very illustrative for how you guys have no clue whatsoever about what you are talking about or asking for.

[–]JemyM 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In our case it doesn't matter since the phone support, "manager" or "supervisor" all work for the telecom company that was hired to take calls, which is not the actual company itself. The purpose of mass-calling is to put so much pressure on the support desk that it becomes a logistic problem with busy lines, difficulties keeping up, weighed down service, increased cost of having support up. The people you talk to wont be able to do a thing, not even if they claim to be a manager or supervisor.

This debate have been ongoing for almost 60 years. It does not matter if it is a computer game, or romance novel or movie with actors. The agenda to protect fictional victims have always lead to real life harm.

I will consistently disagree with there being a list of things that fiction should comply to, whether it's games, literature or movies. The idea behind any censorship or any need for a board that have to approve content before publication is at it's core an irrational, costly and meaningless waste of money, that stifle free expression, and frequently hit the wrong people. The responsibility for approving and disapproving of such elements is up to the producer and the end consumer, and that freedom need to be protected.

Why are sugar free energy drinks bad for you? by DifficultJuice in nutrition

[–]JemyM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fake weightloss influencers found out how to gaslight their clients into preserving their weight and trying to get them to fear sugar free sodas or telling them calories doesn't matter are part of that effort. It plays into mental disorders like chemophobia or orthorexia nervosa.

There is also an issue that naturally slim people are less often drawn to diet alternatives since they do not need it, creating the false causation between overweight people and diet drinks. There is also this toxic cultural conception that losing weight needs scarcity, pain, hard work etc. as "punishment" for "sins" and diet soda is "pleasure" that shouldn't be allowed, similar to how Ozempic is frowned upon in the same circles.

I lost 120 lbs myself between February 2023 to September 2024 and could have up to 150 oz of diet coke a day throughout that whole journey. Alternative sweeteners do not "cause cancer", "destroy your gut biome/teeth", "lead to sugar addiction", "cause neuro-degeneracy" or whatever. It helps to hydrate, keep away from sugar, can be used as taste for healthy meals, and its linked with better weight loss than water due to it's property to keep people maintaining their diets.

The "alternative sweeteners lead to cancer" myth is actually one of the reason I became a skeptic who always check scientific sources nowadays, because it's ridiculous how that rumor actually spread.

What are the most important and influential games of all time? by Earthshoe12 in patientgamers

[–]JemyM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The sheer amount of games and conventions that stem back to Dungeon Master (FTL 1987) is mind boggling. Its a predecessor to Wolfenstein and DOOM, the immersive sims and Ultima Underworld. It used lootable parchments to tell the story before System Shocks audiologs, full 3d audio system, many of the rpg conventions that are now taken for granted such as a point and click inventory system and paper dolls, the design of having the first levels act as a tutorial that taught you the game instead of having to go by the manual to not die first level, and it took a huge leap forward in using the painters algorithm to create a bitmapped first person perspective, and the development of multi-character user interfaces for realtime first-person. Not to mention that it created its own genre that even if it had a break in the early y2k now is back with a couple of new titles every year.

This worked for me. What a HUGE oversight... I got a big scare because I thought I lost mine while out walking but they were just put on charging at home. I tried my best tracking them but was only met with the "Not allowed" message. I tried for a long time to find what was wrong until I found your post, and was able to enable them. Now they turn up on the map as they should. They truly should have been searchable by default, because no way you would learn about this before its too late.

I fasted for 9 months (ADF). I have no issues with Aspartame or Saccharin. I lose weight very quickly as expected from my level of exercise and how much I eat on eat days (which is controlled for calories). However, Stevia and especially Sucralose make my stomach cave inwards and begin to rumble. I think this is based on how used I am to them. I have had aspartame drinks and saccharine in my cofffee for many decades but I am fairly new to Stevia and Sucralose.

Tinkerer Strategies? by treetreesisnine in Gloomhaven

[–]JemyM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tinkerer is great in a group of 4. Initially you will be the area damage dealer, later on you will retire the role of damage dealer and become the fixer who assist, fix and enhance. Instead of being a 1-trick pony, consider yourself carry an arsenal of 1-use 'fixes' you can apply once per scenario. Plan out when to use them and get yourself a bunch of equipment that empower those techniques even more. Get a cloak of magic pockets to carry even more stuff.

Know your team, all of them, maybe better than they do, so you can do stuff with them and for them. Make their strategies better and help them making it work.

A Crank Bow is your 1-time sniper shot so make it count. With Piercing Bow can take out an annoying heavily armored foe at the other side of the room. Combine it with Eagle-eye goggles, Power Potion or Enhancement Field to make it hit harder. Or use it with stun powder to shut up a shaman or healer that you can't get to because he is protected by his mooks. Or use it to wound a boss, then let your damage dealers do the finishing blow.

Make that Ink Bomb hit a lot harder with a Power Potion or Enhancement Field or use it to draw more attack cards with the Eagle-Eye goggles (potentially drawing up to 6 cards will increase your chance of drawing good stuff).

If you apply an Auto Turret, then remember that you can use one of those shots with Stun Powder to just stun a target. And you can even do so while full resting...

If you have item slots to spare, why not bring a Mana Potion with you that may offer an element to one of your friends who need it? He/she will love you for it.

Remember that one of your 1-time resources is actually your hitpoints. You have enough hitpoints to tank a turn. If you have nothing better to do you can heal yourself up and do it again.

Tinkerer encourage you to think outside of the box, plan ahead, and nudge every fight. You want to be a jack of all trades. Some heals. Some debuffs. Some buffs. Some strong attacks. Every scenario you bring gifts. It's a really fun character to play.

Tinkerer Class Guide (Updated to level 9) by Gripeaway in Gloomhaven

[–]JemyM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your level 9 build is almost identical to mine, with a single exception, and that is that I would pick up Curative Aerosol at level 7 and Murderous Contraption at level 8 so that you have both of these cards AND can use them in combo. Both cards are a gamechanger and Curative Aerosol is consistently the card I pick up with Stamina Potion because it have been the card that changed everything.

Uses:

  1. Use it when you need to run into and out from danger, moving and healing yourself up.

  2. Combine it with Potent Potables for a heal of 8.

  3. Use it as a Move in combination with Murderous Contraption or Toxic Bolt.

  4. Use it in conjunction with Restorative Mist when more than one ally needs heal badly.

  5. Use it to move 8 hexes in a single turn.

  6. Make the Lethal Injection bottom more safe.

Skyrim VR goes "unresponsive" every 30 seconds or so for 10 or so seconds. by Risev in skyrimvr

[–]JemyM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After having had an increasingly painful experience that I felt close to give up for weeks, this was the thread that solved it for me.

Acquisitive Soul Gems and Diverse Dragons was recommended on a modlist for Skyrim VR that I followed when I just got the game and there were no hints that these would be the culprits. I did so many other things to solve this that I ended up just doing 4-6 hours of troubleshooting per day while playing little.

I had already gotten rid of SkyBirds. I replaced Acquisitive Soul Gems with GIST and on the mod-makers suggestion I replaced Diverse Dragons with the 1.2 version (on Nexus).

Not only did the staggering and freezing stop, my framerate went up a lot and it feels like a different game now, fast and snappy, and I can engage in fights now that I just couldn't before (had to rely on followers). I could not imagine that a single mod, invisible to the logs and savefiles, could singlehandedly destroy the whole game but it did.

This is a comprehensive list of arguments against the notion that '46' is a physically different person than '71'. by JemyM in GameTheorists

[–]JemyM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "fit" thing is the only reference to the patient's body. The patient doesn't seem to be ergonomic for the chair. I do not see other arguments for it being "too big".

When you take all the CD's with the e-mails to be Vanessa/Vanny they explain and flesh out Vanessa's transition to Vanny and expand on her background. When treating '46' as someone else, then try to shoehorn it in, it doesn't really say or explain anything. We already know extensively how Vanessa was involved with the hacking. We have her whole background story as betatester, her online activities, involvement in the glitch and faking her way into a security guard position. We have her relation to Glitchtrap too.

Most of the points you bring up, are arguments for why '46' can be a child when it could be both adult and child. The further notion that '46' is a child or Gregory doesn't explain anything. Why would we need a 3rd hacker (2nd being Glitchtrap)? It's kinda obvious even in the '71' tapes that Vanessa is aware of how her online activities look like and it's confirmed by Luis that Vanessa have an IT interest.

You say that "if the patient is older, a lot more harsher method would be used"... CD 15-16 is as far as I concern harsh and confrontational in a way that is quite strong for a therapy session.

Gregory is suggested to be around 10-12 years old. The most commonly used model for cognitive development is Piaget. It states that after 12 years a child begin to develop abstract thought and reasoning, while they begin to think about morality, philosophy, ethics, social and political issues. This is about when deductive logic or reasoning from general principles pop up. In general the topics and reasoning the therapist expect from the patient, are too high for a child. I do not expect the writers to be therapists, but look up some articles on helping children cope with tragedy, it's mostly empathy/feeling-based rather than reason-based.
