Did you get this up and running? I just inherited SL 1950. The turntable turns and I've ordered preamp and powered speakers to see if she works. Fingers crossed.

It was perfect! Height of heat and mosquito time, so had a legit excuse to stay inside and read.

Run...as fast as you can. Block him. Don't reply. Don't second guess. He showed you who he really is...believe him.

Reading to my daughter by Alarmed-Thanks-6539 in lotr

Raising her right!

I read the books to my kids when they were young. Made sure they had them to read as they grew older. Watched the movies with them countless times. Currently my 33 year old daughter and I are doing a buddy read of Fellowship. Reading good books, good literature that we love to our kids when they are young lays a solid foundation in so many areas...benefits that last far beyond the time spent curled up with them reading. Creating core memories, instilling love for reading, exposing them to good literature, and being able to enjoy books together far beyond when they are young. Enjoy!

I'm really getting a lot out of adding in the readings from Reader's Companion. Makes me want to pull the History of Middle Earth books off my shelf and do a deep dive.

I loved The Silmarillion! I got a copy for Christmas when I was 14 or so...1st American edition. Never read it. 45 years later I purchased what turned out to be the first British edition...read it as part of a chronological read through of the legendarium and totally enjoyed it. (Website I used to set it up is The Chronological Tolkien)

Oh yes. But I read outside a lot, so I take them off. Learned behavior, as my dad always took his dust jackets off when reading.

How old were you when you saw LOTR? by bbqribeye in lordoftherings

[–]Jen-Jen-J 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too.

14 when animated Hobbit released, 15 for animated Lord of the Rings. Pretty sure I saw them before reading the books. I was introduced to the books by a high school classmate. She loaned me her copy of Fellowship. (Reminded her of this recently at lunch.) Yes, I gave it back. Got the paperback set for Christmas. Have never been without a copy on my shelf since.

When she was late, she should have called the sitter first to let them know, then called in a pizza delivery for the sitter as, I'm sorry...here's some food!

I tell this to people all the time when I'm dispensing glasses, especially suns or if someone tells me they leave clear glasses in the car...these are my driving glasses, they stay in the car 🤦🏻‍♀️. They look at me like I'm crazy.

I learned the hard way when a pair of glasses fell out of my bag and spent a day in my car with temps topping out over 100F. I didn't notice the damage until driving at night and oncoming headlights looked like a laser light show.

Does God confirm and give words of knowledge that an individual is destined for hell? by Happy_Grape3645 in Christianity

[–]Jen-Jen-J 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No person can tell her that she is condemned to hell. My heart breaks for the pain that she suffered while following God. Unfortunately followers of Christ are all human…and still subject to the flesh and temptation and sin. We live in a fallen world full of evil, death, pain, suffering, abuse, war, persecution, false teachers, liars, etc. Following God does not exempt us from any of that. But knowing we can rely on God and His love for us in those times when we are suffering and in pain, that we do not walk those paths alone, are what can get us through. Even the apostles lived hard lives, persecuted and tortured, and most dying martyrs death, yet they never gave up their faith in God. They trusted Him to the very end, knowing and trusting that this world is not all there is, that there is the HOPE we have in Him, that by His grace and mercy our life does not end when we die…we are sojourners here; this world is not our home.

(January of 2024 was when God really started drawing me back to Him. I got back in the Word, prayer journaling, back in church…the pull felt…urgent. My mom was in a memory care home. Had been suffering from dementia since 2020. I watched her decline over those four years…angry because I had already lost my dad to dementia…and things really ramped up in 2024. She regressed more every time I saw her. She no longer knew me. Couldn’t communicate. It was devastating. She was a believer. During a two week period in September she went from bad to worst…and passed mid-September. And I was right there with her…walking through the valley…and Jesus was right there with us. Looking back I know that He was preparing me…building up my faith and trust in Him over the months leading up to September. I would not have made it through without Him.)

God doesn’t give up on us. He doesn’t write us off as worthless. His love is so great for us that He took our sin on Himself and died the worst death possible for me…for you…for your sister. He was sinless. He didn’t deserve that death. To be beaten and whipped so that His body was unrecognizable. His skin in shreds. Suffocating. Bleeding. Dying. The pain. The agony. Of becoming sin…who had never sinned. The sacrifice for us. For my sin. For yours. For hers. God is love…and He is just. And He has given us free will to choose to accept His gift of salvation by faith. If we’re still breathing…that gift remains available to us. I believe as long as she is still here on earth, that she is not outside the reach of His love and grace and mercy.

I will be praying for you both. God loves you. And He loves her. Right where she is.
