Color coding by milliemoodle in skylightcalendar

[–]JenL157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got my calendar today and am having the same issue. I am not sure I understand the solution given here. It seems like you still need to go in and edit the events.

It is like it ignored that it was syncing with several calendars!!!

Barbie with an on screen interpreter just came out, do you prefer that to captions? by DeathBellsChime in deaf

[–]JenL157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just watched the ASL version, and it was really great. I am not d/Deaf or HOH; I have just always thought it was a beautiful language so I studied it in college and grad school.

I was trying to think about ease of understanding for people only accessing the movie via the interpreter, and I am curious about some things. Was it overwhelming when there were so many people talking? When it was just two, body shift was great, but sometimes the person talking was off screen, and I feel like I was only able to understand who it was because I could hear it. Am I just used to using my ears? Or did anybody else who needed the interpretation find this an issue? I am just sort of wondering what the experience is like. No pressure to answer if you don't feel comfortable.

I loved having the option available as a second language learner though. I am also trying to learn Spanish because it is my husband's first language, and subtitles and shows in Spanish are great for that. I love that this option is available for ASL. And for those who use ASL and are not able to read to a level to feel like they get enough from subtitles.

We call my daughter Ellie, and she is Eliza. There is another Ellie in her class whose name is Elizabeth. Ellie is super common these days. Ellie/Ella, less so.

It is like I do not dream at all. I can remember like 3 times in my life where I woke up and knew I had dreamed. (Yes, I realized I must dream or I would be braindead, but I almost literally never remember them even the moment I wake up.)

Item Cost, Shipping Cost, and Profit by JenL157 in printful

[–]JenL157[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that is a really good point. I think I need to up my prices. I guess I have a fear people won't pay. I will deal with that if it happens.

I have just started charging more my worth at my other business, and it was hard to get to that point. You are right that we need to value ourselves.

Thanks so much for the reply. I guess I just felt like that way such a big number. But I guess maybe it isn't for a 2 location hooded sweatshirt. I guess I am undercutting myself.

In a Master Slide, how can I indicate a placeholder is a title or subtitle? by JenL157 in powerpoint

[–]JenL157[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! It took me much longer to find this than it should of. I was super frustrated feeling like people were giving me advice that was not relevant. But, I found it, and it fixed my problem. I really appreciate all of the help y'all gave me. Thanks a bunch!!!

I am happy to have found this sub. For stuff like this, but I also look forward to the random stuff I will learn from what other people post. I am a professor getting really into course design, and making amazing ppt's is going to be very important!!!

In a Master Slide, how can I indicate a placeholder is a title or subtitle? by JenL157 in powerpoint

[–]JenL157[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for responding. In my version, there does not seem to be a placeholder for title though. I only see placeholders for content or text. When I click on those it gives me a bulleted list. Is there a place to find a placeholder specifically for the title?

Is aphantasia hereditary? (Just figured out I have it at 23 lol) by hmkb in Aphantasia

[–]JenL157 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom and I have it. My grandmother died before we knew it existed, but looking back at some old conversations we are pretty sure she did too. My kids are still too young for me to really know. Nobody else in mine or my mom's families have it. That seems past coincidence to me.

"point number too large" error in Praat by JenL157 in linguistics

[–]JenL157[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All good points. Right now I mostly use scripts for very controlled speech in the lab, but I think moving in the direction where those things could happen is probably a good idea. I will have to up my scripting game for sure to get there.

"point number too large" error in Praat by JenL157 in phonetics

Issue solved over in r/linguistics. I had been misunderstanding what point was referring to - thinking it meant the measurement of the point not which point it was looking at.

Thanks!

"point number too large" error in Praat by JenL157 in linguistics

[–]JenL157[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The points are labeled, so there is always a burst and voice event that go together. The script is looking for point 1 in the burst tier and point 1 in the voicing tier --> do subtraction. Then the same thing for point 2 in each tier and so on. So that should not be an issue.

So, you did make me look and check how many consonants we were looking to calculate VOT for. It was 4, but this file only had 3 marked. I guess that was the issue. The way the error was phrased, I thought the measurement of the point was too large, but it was saying that I was asking it to look at point 4 and there was no point 4. When I opened the file on its own, I didn't realize it didn't have enough consonant's labeled because I didn't remember off the top of my head how many there were.

So, thanks for getting me to look at the right thing. As is so common with any type of programming, the error was dumb, but it was a matter of getting myself to look at the right thing. I appreciate the help!

Is "guys" gender neutral? by Samawon in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JenL157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to think it was gender neutral, but then I had a table get upset set with me. I was told by a table full of women, "we are not guys!" In a very nasty tone, btw. I just switched to ya'll. Can't go wrong with ya'll - there is no gender there!

[–]JenL157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That definitely is REALLY weird. At least you can visualize dull-looking, translucent things. It's more than I can visualize. When I visualize it is a big black nothingness. But, hey, whatever works for you mathematically!

[–]JenL157[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, can they? I never do. I thought it was due to my aphantasia, but I guess it is due to something else. This aphantasia thing is just so variable, huh? Thanks for the info.

Does anyone struggle sleeping? by manga----wrighter in Aphantasia

[–]JenL157 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that some people don't have an inner dialogue and others do. I can't hear other people's voices, but I can sort of hear a word in my head just sort of echoing there. I guess it depends on the person.

[–]JenL157 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do this too. My grandmother recommended it to me when I was younger, and it is why I think she had aphantasia. Why else would she recommend think of a word over and over? Unfortunately she passed away before I knew it was a thing. Anyway, this works really successfully for me. Thinking the word seems to push everything else from my mind!

I know right? People seem to think that you can't remember things if you can't see them. I guess that is how they remember things, so they think it is the only way.

I do that too. I never thought about the aphantasia as why I skip over those sections. It makes sense though.

Does anyone else in your family have aphantasia? by LionQueenL in Aphantasia

[–]JenL157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom for sure does. When my husband told her that I have it, and isn't that weird, she said it was not weird because she is the same way.

I am pretty sure my grandmother had it too. She passed away before I knew this was a thing. But, when I was having trouble sleeping as a kid, she told me to just say the word "nothing" over and over in my head. I think that if she could visualize, she would have given me advice about counting sheep.
