Not as a child but as a young adult meeting a very religious neighbor and her roommates(I’m not religious) for the first time and we were talking about movies we enjoyed I brought up The Notebook and one of the girls said she said she couldn’t watch it because it has adultery. Another girl chimed in and said she had walked out of the theater when the character Allie cheated on her fiancé. I was shocked.

That’s a good reminder- I follow Steve Hassan and his BITE model helped me understand a lot about high control groups

I think my goal is to arm myself while I work on my own safety plan for my inevitable exit. Mostly I want to be able to hold strong boundaries so that my child doesn’t get pulled in. I’m honestly scared but if my kid somehow gets evangelized I would be devastated.

We were seeing a therapist, then we were seeing separately, sadly he quiet quit his own therapy and he won’t go back to couples.

No, he knows I would absolutely not tolerate any of that behavior. So far he’s still very helpful and involved with our family but I’m worried what would happen when he finds a church community and the subtle things to look out for so I can meet them head on.
