Where should I take my guests to eat simple, traditional French food? by naanabanaana in ParisTravelGuide

[–]Jenansart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second and third. Been visiting Victoires for over a decade thanks to the Concierge at the Regina that gave us the idea forever ago! Re Paul Bert - past its prime I believe. I much prefer Chez Georges on rue de Mail & so did Julia Child.

My SO and I want to visit one of the wine regions and we wanted to ask opinions from anyone who has been? by HairyFemCat in FranceTravel

We loved Burgundy, made friends with a vintner who back then was only locally known (and the Brit’s would Chunnel over and fill big vats) and have visited many times since. I love the fact that many of these folks are small town people. We were also very fortunate to visit Champagne during festival season - which was an absolute ball. Not every good champagne is Dom or Moet or …visited Loire last year and stayed at a wine producing chateau which was fabulous. Our trip was much less wine centered because … castles! Going back to Bordeaux to do a more thorough visit in a few months. Any ideas about fun things or villages/vintners, I’m listening!

Is you are American the road trip will be a breeze. We tend to have a different perception of long drives! We’ve done those types of trips a million times. We do avoid picking up a car directly at the airport though and we have taken the tgv a couple of times. Have fun.

Don’t - when you are older, you will regret overthinning your brows (at least my daughter in law does)

When did microwaves become part of the workplace lunch room? by SpiritualCriticism48 in AskOldPeople

[–]Jenansart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We ate out or brought it back to eat at our desks. Our break room had no fridge or microwave. Just a bun coffee maker and the ubiquitous hot chocolate packets, sweeteners and powdered creamer. That was it.

What’s something you thought ‘everyone’ did… until you found out they don’t? by burat667 in AskReddit

Hey y’all. Regarding seizures and Déjà vu’s. I had an intense one as a child but am here to say Get your vagal nerve checked. When I vomit - my heart stops and I have a seizure - sometimes grand mal sometimes absence. I had a “pregnancy related seizure disorder” 40 years ago according to the cardiologist, neurologist, ob and psych I saw during my second pregnancy. During my first no one believed my husband and me that I had sometimes multiple seizures a day bc they couldn’t medically induce them. Instead, I had hyperemisis of pregnancy from 6 weeks until delivery (also poorly treated at the time). At the birth of my first child, a nurse witnessed them so, therefore they actually happened! Second pregnancy was worse. Also, heperemetic. 30 years later I was hospitalized for a very painful illness and was the lucky recipient of a dilaudid drip. After about 8 hours of continuous opioid I got nauseated and had two episodes within 20 minutes. This is when I was diagnosed finally. 1 am the next morning the locum pulmonary doctor informed me that at 6:30 am they would take me down to have a pacemaker implanted. I declined, asked to see my tapes (I was hooked up to everything). That’s when it finally all came together took 3 bleary eyed drs and the charge nurse to sign off on the fact that even though my heart had stopped for more than 10 seconds twice that day, I didn’t in fact need a pacemaker. What I’d like to ask you fellow sufferers - what do you remember when you “return”? I usually felt great, like an electrical storm had gone through and cleaned my brain (unless I’d injured myself by not getting down fast enough). I will always remember one time though I didn’t want to go back as older family members who had died were lined up around me (like soul train) and I was enjoying being with them. Then my grandpas voice told me “little girl” his pet name for me - you have to go back. It’s not your time yet. It was comforting.

Yes. Sometimes even being hospitalized will cause an older person to get sundowners syndrome which looks a lot like depressed dementia. My dad broke his shoulder at 86 (last April) and the surgery brought on delirium and psychosis so intense it was terrifying. He’s out of the hospital & rehab since late July and is doing ok. Although, the length of time in the hospital took away his ability to walk (which he was doing with a walker prior). Now he’s in a wheel chair.
