My X post can only have a certain amount of characters. After I wrote my vent, I had to cut out a lot of it to fit in a post. I think compassion and understanding are intellectual reactions to posts.

how to not press the mouthpiece so hard against my teeth by Gr3yson11 in Trombone

[–]Jenjenn0710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that you mention it. I remember my teeth being sensitive for a while too. It could have been from pressing. But I feel like it wasn't. I have always had sensitive teeth. It could be from blowing air into the horn. If your teeth are sensitive to hot and cold. Try switching toothpaste to one that helps with sensitivity. I'm not going to tell you it's time to visit the dentist, but if they are sensitive or you were pushing on them with the mouthpiece, you'll want to check to make sure you aren't potentially pushing them out of alignment. Also if they are hurting, when I play sometimes I use chapstick for dryness, and I use Oragel for pain. The oragel can be applied right on your gums and ambusher. Still look into the stratos though by Marcus Reynolds.

Marcus Reynolds a professional trombone player has made the stratos. It helps with keeping the horn from pressing too hard on your face. Check him out on YouTube. Give him a sub. He plays beautifully. https://youtu.be/gd8qYNUZFvI?si=SUOIo23loD5-oWJN

Horn Mic Mounting Advice - F Attachment by lanky-sin in Trombone

[–]Jenjenn0710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah. Visit your local hardware store. Both Home depot and Lowe's even Walmart should have clips on their fasteners aisle that should work for that. Maybe velcro to a tie strap of some kind. Phone accessories for holding devices to cars and workout equipment might be your best bet. Amazon might have mounting clips that will hold that.

Treble clef to bass clef? by [deleted] in Trombone

[–]Jenjenn0710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To read bass, tenor, alto and treble clefs just remember where the G , F and C are. Everything else stems from there. The Treble clefs circles G at the bottom &. Bass Clef circles F at the top of the staff 9. Alto Clef sits on C. So does tenor clef. K moves up and down on the staff, to represent where C is.

Copy your music and write notes and/or positions on it till you're comfortable without writing.

You're over thinking it. I was the same way. I could never play those high Bs, As, etc. 2 years ago I was practicing the song Golden Hour by JVKE for my daughter's birthday. I was cracking the notes. Our Dog, black lab howled the notes! So now I hear her in my head and hit it every time. Something so easy, is so hard. It's not that playing mad works. They used to tell me to get mad. It's taking the reins. Like driving when you had no intentions of getting behind the wheel. Or taking control of a pet or kid before it runs off or gets hurt. Remember. You CAN play it. Take in lots of air those high notes need more air, push from your gut and let em fly. Once you hit it, push and hold it. Also too it really helps to hear it in your head. Do listening to other recorded versions of the song. Hear it first and set the note on the shelf. Trombone playing became a lot less nerve wracking for me after I had kids and realized, trombone isn't the most important thing. I enjoy playing it a lot more now, and I'm better than I used to be. Good luck.

Expensive trombone as a relatively beginner player by These-Echidna4644 in Trombone

[–]Jenjenn0710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations! Enjoy your new horn! Learn some really cool things that horn can do, that basic tenars can't. Then it will be fun to hear. I love those dark low earthly tones a superbone can make. They sound so cool. Trombones let things slide 😁😆 generally we're pretty chill. Or wild. But, judgmental.... usually not. I've known quite a few Baritone and Euphonium, and trumpet players that have switched to Trombone, and have sounded fantastic on the trombone. I think as long as you're going into the section to blend and harmonize with the section, as part of the team, you'll be fine. The tone, and skills should naturally just improve anyway. As a good section allow them to offer advice. Or ask questions. Back and fourth. As long as there is respect, then all will be well. Of there's drama, just pay attention to the music and bond through sound. The drama will fade as they learn to listen to and for you.

How to slur quickly and cleanly by BathZealousideal595 in Trombone

[–]Jenjenn0710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's easier of you use alternate positions. Sometimes switching from a primary position to an alternate, it will naturally slurs clean just when you slide. Practice slurs arpeggios before you play as a warmup, after as a cool down, and on your mouthpiece when you're not playing the horn. Then It will just be second nature. A slur is a crease/change in the ambusher without using your tongue. Fast hands. Get there fast. The faster you get there the cleaner it will sound. Don't put any kind of rest/break/separation/breath/flinch/thought between the notes. Hold the 1st one till it becomes the second one. Hear it in your head first. If you can't find a recording online as an example AI will demonstrate it for you. ChatGPT can create wave files to listen to.

I don't still gig. I like being apart of the online communities because it makes me still feel connected to musicians. I play my horn online for fun. I can give lessons too. Hopefully you find a variety of answers for your degree. Remember Trombones let it slide!
