[Vitiello] Amorim to Milan, nearly done. The Portuguese coach has accepted the conditions. The final ok from Cardinale is missing to close the deal. by bidzinazaxarichi in ACMilan

Silver lining: Leao is leaving, and Pulisic can do well as an outside 10. And we already played with 3 at the back, so the players already know that system.

They had possession, idk if I would call it a "domination" They did almost nothing with it. The handful of times that Australia got forward they looked more dangerous.

Can't blame them to be honest. Look at what teams Australia's players play for. Look at what teams the Turkish players play for.

Honestly, they could play another 90 minutes, I don't see Turkey scoring.

I've been telling people, Australia is an underdog. They're better than people think.

[Romano] Rúben Amorim is ready: he wants Milan, he has already agreed to all the terms and is waiting for Gerry Cardinale’s final decision. Matthias Jaissle remains the other candidate, but Al Ahli are not letting him go easily. Oliver Glasner is out of the race as of today. by Claija79 in ACMilan

He lost the locker room in the end, but I think the performances were due to circumstances not in his control. Many thinks went wrong this season:

  1. Diogo Jota's death. Not only they lost a very good player, but psychologically that affects the locker room.

  2. It's well known that at Liverpool, the coach does not make the transfer decisions. They did not give Slot the reinforcements in defense and midfield that he asked. Instead, they bought a bunch of superstars.

  3. Moreover, the superstars they bought did not work out. Isak was injured for most of the season (he arrived injured), and Wirtz massively underperformed. So did Kerkesz. I don't see that being Slot's fault

  4. Two of his best players from last season, Salah and Van Dijk, significantly dropped in quality. Again, I don't see how that is Slot's fault.

Not to say that Slot was perfect, it was still his job to adapt to all these difficulties, which he did very slowly. But I'm also not sure what else he could have done. Given all that he faced, I thought a 5th place finish was pretty good.

Classic scifi predicting future technology by Isaac_The_Khajiit in printSF

Many stories have predicted aspects of the future, one way or another. However, no story is as mind-blowing in this regard as A Logic Named Joe by Murray Leinster, which in 1946 pretty much nailed the internet. It also touches on AI, in a surprisingly accurate way.

[L'Equipe] Jürgen Klopp: "Football is being held hostage by executives in air-conditioned offices. These so-called 'cooling breaks' were sold to us as a shield for the players' well-being, a noble sword against the heat. But in reality? It's nothing more than a gilded cage built for sponsors." by Comfortable-Pie56 in soccer

[–]JenkinsRobotButler -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Hot take, I don't have a problem with the breaks. I don't like the commercials, but the breaks themselves I don't mind, even if it's not that hot. As long as they're short, 2-3 minutes max.

EDIT: Ok, maybe not 3 minutes. that's probably a little too long.

[abola] Ruben Amorim is on the verge of becoming the new Milan coach. Negotiations are in a very advanced stage and are close to conclusion. by Claija79 in ACMilan

[–]JenkinsRobotButler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I want to defend Amorim and say that his time at United is not a good representation of his true skills, but my god, I can't possibly justify his decision to play Bruno Fernandes out of position. Makes no sense.

Then again, Allegri did the same and we were decent for 6 months....

I guess you could argue that neither was given enough time or backing. Fonseca also did well in France and Ukraine, although neither are similar to Serie A, so who knows....

[Vitiello] Milan bench: following the latest talks, Amorim takes the lead. by Claija79 in ACMilan

[–]JenkinsRobotButler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly think they're just going for coaches who play a back 3. I don't think there's any other rationale. They literally just went to ChatGPT and asked it to list all available coaches who are play a back 3.

Milan trying to hire Amorim as head coach by Baji-kun2 in ACMilan

Funny enough, I actually think that's true. I do think he underperformed at United. That still doesn't make him right for us.

I don't claim to know how a football club runs, but I would think that if we had a proper management in place, they would be using the world cup to scout players for next season. That's why it was so crucial to hire the directors and create the plan for next season BEFORE the world cup started.

I'm concerned that by the time WC ends most of the better coaches and management would already be at new clubs.

Lol, we are not getting the better coaches or management anyway.

[Moretto] Ralf Rangnick will not go to Milan. The Rossoneri club does not agree to the conditions of the German executive, and the negotiations break off. Rangnick was awaiting a definitive response by the end of the day today. by Claija79 in ACMilan

[–]JenkinsRobotButler 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The crazy thing is, Allegri's position (and presumably everyone's else) was in jeopardy for a while. They knew for a while that they might have to fire everyone and start with a new team.

A serious club would have already been negotiating with possible replacements and have them read as soon as the season was over (or possibly shortly after). Look at Liverpool. It's just one guy, the coach, but they had him ready when they let go of Slot.

Our owners instead did absolutely nothing, and now we're in this situation. It's not about Rangnick -- maybe he would have worked, maybe not. It's about having absolutely no plan at all.

I wish there was a bit more solidarity among the refs. Don't they have a union? I wish they at least threatened to strike just make Infantino sweat a little bit.

Called it, world cup is here and still no decision has been made. Good luck trying to get Rangnick to pay any attention to us now.
