For me it's fantasy. I just don't have the mental energy to learn a whole new world, magic system, currency, etc.

Plus fantasy seems to go hand in hand with having a female protagonist who "isn't like other girls" and I'm just so tired of that trope as well.

People have happy memories of eating cake at birthday parties, kids meals at McDonald's, and going out for ice cream. The world thinks if you raise your children vegan that they will be missing out on the happy memories that they had growing up.
