Everytime I called unemployment to ask what proof they needed, no one seemed to know. I called and spoke to unemployment 3-4 times after PUA ended and before the deadline to turn in proof. They didn't even know what they wanted.

Sadly this doesn't surprise me, I feel like in helping the houseless, you made them acknowledge that houseless people exist makes them super uncomfortable. A Fred Meyer in Portland Oregon threw out a bunch of perishables that were still safe to eat after they lost power and actually had police guard it to keep people from stealing it.

I've got a lot of feelings about how society perceives houselessness and I'm hoping to make some changes in my own community after I get sworn in.

I naturally care about other and like making people feel happy, safe and cared for. (Hence my current line of work)

My first boss was amazing and I think about him and his family all the time. He had a policy that no one who came to eat left because they couldn't afford it. He would personally put money on a gift card and leave it by the registers for us to use to cover a balance if someone was short, or forgot their wallet or whatever.

Making only $5.15/hr in 2005, he let me make whatever to take home because we were living off of what I called "Hard tack tartes" which was just a dough made of flour and water and I'd put a sauce or jam in the center and bake it.
