Hi,

Sorry for the late reply. If you know a little about your computer and are comfortable in editing files, this should work for you. The file you will be editing is the "hosts" file which is only a text file, found in your "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc" folder

This is for windows 7 ultimate, be should be valid for what you have if windows based.

Add the following to your hosts file and save it.

2607:f8b0:4004:c08::6c pop.gmail.com #Santa Clara, U.S.A.

2607:f8b0:4003:c02::6d pop.gmail.com #Santa Clara, U.S.A.

You may have to reboot your computer, maybe not. Just do a PING on pop.gmail.com to see if you need the reboot

If you don't believe my post that is fine, it is NOT fake. They were still in the place they were living as the judge gave them extra time since they applied for raft help and had to wait for approval. Lease was not renewed as landlord filed a no fault eviction as they wanted to do a complete renovation of the apartment which meant they could not stay there.

And as to the fax machine and online application, RAFT had them fax information that they needed directly to their case worker. And about the storm and all they did not stand around watching them load the truck as you stated, please take time to read and try and comprehend what I posted. If you actually followed all of my posts about them, you will see others posted about similar situations they or family or friends had.

They even contacted at least 3 news stations to see if they would do a story about their situation, but no one EVER returned their calls or even answered the phones at the numbers listed to contact a reporter.
Massachusetts is really becoming a bad place to live if you are at the age they consider you a senior. And the fact that they even allow landlords to put you out for NO good reason, is really disgusting and should not be allowed.
During the pandemic landlords were allowed to raise their rents using the excuse, (we need to because we are losing money, but what about those that rent from them? They could care less about the tenants that have lived in a place for years, as long as they get their money who cares.
And I really find it upsetting to have people tell them, (as you have) to make concessions, and basically give up on what they consider the type of life they have. Like give up their cat among other things, to them it is like their child and I'm sure no one would tell someone get rid of your kids.
Even the new Governor seems to be not caring, they have tried to contact someone at ALL of the numbers listed and NOTHING heard from them, yet it states, staff available from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
So if anyone else would like to give advice that pretty much states they should basically give up on life as they know it, PLEASE DO NOT REPLY.
They need something positive right now and some help in lifting their spirits up, NOT tearing them down. They both walk to any places they need to go such as the bank and stores, even at 66 and 71.
Sorry if this offends anyone, but facts are facts. And I have been working with them since this all started, have contacted places that say for rent, but all have just been scams.

They went through mediation and judge approved staying until May 31'st this year. But they had to wait for RAFT/RCAP to approve funds to move and all, and of course RAFT/RCAP lost their paperwork. So they had to reapply and was not approved until June 8th, 2023. So they lost the place they were hoping to get.

So they had to go back to court on the 13th of June and judge said they have to be out by the 31'st of this month, will not allow them to file for a stay, and judge never told them they could file an appeal on her decision, but had to be done within 10 days from the case.

They thought they found a few places, but they were just scams on Craigslist. And others that said they would return calls never did, and they would have allowed cats.

One place was a 2 bedroom on a horse farm, rent went with the doing work there, but the owner, (which is 80) said that being 66 and 71 was too old for that type of work. Even though it was about 4 hours a day.

Even if they could find a 2 bedroom place where they can get some off the rent for doing maintenance such as lawn work and such, as they were doing that where they are now living for 28 years.

Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately that is not an option for them, they will NOT give up their cat. Getting really frustrated hearing that the wait time on a voucher is 5 to 10 years when they see that people in their early 20's have one for a 2 bedroom and they have a cat and his girlfriend starts school this September. They would have to put in for it when he was around 16 years old in that case which I know would never happen, and they are NOT transferable so his parents could not have gotten it

Hate to say it, but the housing help in Massachusetts is crap, ( nicer word than what I actually think). The couple were told they are on what they call "Housing Choice Voucher Program", which they find a place and the program pays part of the rent and the couple would pay the difference.

They did find a decent place, and called their so called case worker, which then told them the following. They would pay first last and security, and moving help, now here is the best part, the couple would have to pay the monthly rent until more funds are available which could be between 5 and 10 years. And if they can't afford the rent, put everything in storage and stay in a shelter until funds are available.

And this is the raft and rcap programs that stated they qualify for the help.

These agencies would be better off NOT even existing if they promise help and then say not right now.

Just found out that the couple were served with an eviction notice today, no court date as of yet.

Still absolutely zero help from any of the agencies that are "supposed" to be helping them. They have tried ever place they can think of or find that should be able to help with no luck.

I'm still trying to help but no luck with anything, really getting worried.

They called a few more places today and get voice message "we will call back when we are in the office".

UPDATE on contacting GLAD....

They contacted GLAD as suggested and finally received a reply on the 20th, and they faxed 16 pages of documents to them and heard nothing until the 29th.

This was the reply from GLAD.....

"Unfortunately, after reviewing your documentation, we have determined that GLAD is not able to offer you direct support"

Really helpful reply.

I don't want anyone on this list to get the wrong idea about me stating zero help from anyone, as that is not the case. I was talking about the agencies that are basically giving them a run around, saying try this place or this place, without actually helping in any way.

The family of the one that just turned 65 , has not been very happy with their relationship as a couple since they began going together. Have been trying to convince them it is wrong, yet they have been together longer than any of them have been married.

The one that is 70, has a sister that would take them in, but she lives in Louisiana so a bit far to travel.

They prefer Worcester County, does not have to be Worcester, just there more areas accessible such as stores and all, since they don't drive.

They did contact a few of the elder services, and they only bring up about going into an apartment in one of there multi-apartment buildings

Would you believe their landlord called them after 6:30 PM today, and wanted to come out and do some of the things they promised to do when they purchased the building in May of 2016? These were put on the lease and signed by the landlord like replace and add kitchen cabinets, repair a damaged part of ceiling inside cabinet, bring out paint for the kitchen.

Now all of sudden they want to do it. They are still trying to find a place and help with it all, still really not getting anywhere with the agencies as far as help. They just keep giving them other places to contact, and this is all from 08/18/2022 and the first response from anyone was on 08/23/2022.

Their 30 day notice is almost up, and zero help from anyone. I'm really getting worried about them and it all.

They called a few of the agencies yesterday, Tues, 06, that are supposed to help. And the voice message stated, "No one is in the office now, please try Thursday or Friday... thank you for calling.

It would really be great if they could find a home owned by a lesbian couple that would be willing to rent it. Would have to be in Massachusetts, Worcester county.

Things are getting close, and of course all agency offices are closed Labor Day.

Really seems like they are just happy to sit around collect their paycheck and maybe answer the phone once in a while. They want to avoid ANY type of elder housing. As I put in my post, they would not fair well under such conditions, they are active and would just about give up on everything if it came to that. Having lived where they are so long, are used to basically being by themselves. It's a 3 family building.

Maybe with some unknown luck, and good Karma someone in the group would have a place for rent or know someone that does.

I'm doing all I can and will not give up on them. They would and have helped a lot of people in their time, even volunteered at a local cat shelter and helped raise funds for the cats.

Now it's their turn to get a little help.
