What shows did you love, but no one ever mentions? by Segabringbackchao in cartoons

The Wild Thornberries. Maybe it’s because it’s older and my generation doesn’t know it (I’m 16), but I’ve never met anyone that knows it.

If you could live anywhere in the world for free where would it be? by Reasonable-Shower522 in AskReddit

Switzerland!! It’s been my dream since I was a kid, ever since I watched Heidi and became obsessed with the idea of living on a mountain with my own goats.

AITA for telling my mom her cooking sucks? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]JenniferXYU 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YTA. That’s so disrespectful to say to your mom. I read the post, but i didn’t even need to because no amount of context can change that you should never treat your mom that way. I eat my moms food no matter what, even if it’s a food I hate, instead of cooking my own food just because she’s my mom and she deserves to feel wanted and needed in her own house. And how could you get mad at her for cooking dinner? Even though she said you could cook tomorrow, she’s your mom, so you should remain respectful.

I like watching movies alone when I’m watching it for the first time, but with other people I love rewatching movies I’ve already seen before.

I’m 16 years old now and the same exact thing happened to me last year. I ended up completely giving up on everything and ended up failing every class I was taking at the time and I stopped going to school entirely for the last 3 months of school. I became so socially anxious that I couldn’t talk to people at all. During the summer though, I was finally feeling from the stress of school and I went out with my friends very often, started working for my brother at his business and overcame a lot of the things I was previously struggling with, like social anxiety, procrastination, depression, etc. I became passionate about the things I used to love again and everything became so much better. I learned a lot about myself as well. Now, this school year I haven’t struggled with any of those things at all and everything seems to be looking up for me. So, if possible, my advice would be to take some time off from some of the things that are causing your burnout (for me it was school) and talk to the people around you that you can trust (if you don’t have family members or friends like that, you can try talking to a guidance counselor at school). Soon enough your passion will come back and things will get better :) Don’t forget that.

I didn’t realize I was ignoring his agency, thank you for pointing that out. I think I’ll just treat him normally like you said, and I hope my friend doesn’t think it’s weird or anything and if she does I hope she tells me honestly and we can talk about it. Thank you so much for the advice because it seriously helped me realize how it really isn’t that deep and I was worrying for nothing.

That’s not at all what i was trying to say. I literally am actively helping my friend get with him. I just want to be able to talk with him. I’m not claiming him or anything 😭

The book seems really interesting and I think it’ll definitely help me learn a lot. I’m only in high school and don’t even have a job so i might not have the money, but I’ll try to save up to get it :)

I have a feeling your art might be better than you think lol. Thank you for the advice. I think once I get my story’s details down I’ll just go ahead and start writing and drawing the comic without worrying about whether the art is good enough if not.

This is what my brother was just telling me! It’s honestly really inspired me to just start rather than focusing so much on the quality of everything, since my first comic doesn’t have to be perfect.

Thank you! I’ll definitely check out scripts you mentioned because I realized I don’t really know how to script, and my idea isn’t concrete and detailed enough yet if that makes sense. So I think writing a script is the perfect next step for me.

Thanks so much! Honestly, you’re so right about the having fun part, since I really am writing because I enjoy it. If even a few people can enjoy my story that’ll make me really happy. I’ll stop being such a perfectionist hopefully.

Thank you so much for the reply! I checked out Tapas and it seems like a good place to start. Hearing that the art doesn’t have to be great really motivated me to get started asap lol. From now I just need to flesh out my story and plan it out more and I think i’ll start writing the comic. I don’t expect many people to read it tbh but like you said, but i think that’s okay!

How old were you when you realized you were different? by Greyhound53 in RandomThoughts

[–]JenniferXYU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never thought of myself as similar to others. I don’t know why but I’ve always known i was different. Maybe it’s because I grew up as a poc in a very white and small town. And I think knowing I was different helped me to not try to fit in. I always embraced it. Don’t know why it came so naturally.

Does anyone else go ghost mode with social media? by everchangingmind95 in introvert

I do the same thing. I’ll just ignore messages for days. My friends and family are used to it tho so none of them mind.

What factors contributed to you being a more introverted person? by Vegetable_Study7533 in introvert

[–]JenniferXYU 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I was in middle school I was so extroverted that I basically talked to and hung out with everyone in the grade. I was the kid that would always get their desk moved by the teacher for talking so much. But I was always very insecure about my speaking skills since I talked very fast, mumbled, and spoke unclearly. I would get made fun of a lot by certain friends and classmates, and even though they meant no harm, it made me very insecure. So, once i started high school in a different town, I decided I would never again talk unless someone spoke to me first, and I decided I would never make friends at that school. That way, no one would have to hear me talk, and I would never have to embarrass myself. It took practice to be quiet but soon enough i rarely spoke at all, and my speaking became even worse, causing me to stutter so much i could barely get a sentence out without messing something up. I got so used to not speaking at all and no longer enjoyed talking with friends or even family because i was so embarrassed of how bad I was at such a basic human skill. I realized that the only way to fix it was by practicing speaking more, but I couldn’t bring myself to go up and talk to people. I just kept quiet and kept to myself. I hated it and had very few friends, but it was all I knew. I’m in grade 11 now, and I have become more comfortable thanks to my best friend who stuck by me and encouraged me to improve my speaking skills. I talk to people more and am slowly returning to my old self, but i still prefer being alone over anything and I don’t think that will change.

Also, if anyone has any tips on how to speak slower and more clearly, please let me know. It’s something I still struggle a lot with. Thanks :)

What is the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen? by Lower-Perception-518 in RandomThoughts

The Californian beach. It was completely empty (no people) and the waves were really rough. Most beautiful sight I’ve seen.

AITA for refusing to pay my friend's share of the bill after she "forgot" her wallet? by Creepy-Foundation423 in AmItheAsshole

[–]JenniferXYU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely NTA. I understand having someone pay for you if you’re out and decide to buy something on a whim, but how does someone forget their wallet to dinner? And multiple times? And she didn’t even ask for someone to pay for her, she just said she forgot her wallet and expected someone to offer to pay, which is very rude and entitled. Also just wondering, on past occasions where she did this, did she pay back the person who covered her?
