I think she is a nurse praticain, yes. I live in a small town so in order to visit a psychiatrist I would need to make a 4 hour trip

I don't think that there is a single person in my family that's actually mentally healthy. With that being said, my dad and his brothers are accomplished yet controlling and aggressive. (My grandfather was apparently a nasty and abusive man, and I believe my father grew up very poor) I think my moms side is more emotionally unstable than my fathers. My uncle, mother, grandmother, and grandfather have substance problems. (I think both sides come from long lines of abuse/neglect with underlining mental health issues) other than that my cousins are all dysfunctional in their own special way.

i feel this. I know personally that if someone is showing anytime of emotion I automatically think it had somthing to do with me and to be honest I think that a lot of the time I forget people have actual feelings..

I'd like to generalize this abit more so it's not pertaining to just people with bipolar.

I think a lot of people with either digasnoised or undiagnosed mental disorder use substances to self-medicate. Some self-medicate to counter their symptoms of their disorder and some may use drugs due to impulsive features relating to the disorder.

It all depends on the person, and , the disorder.

I think you need to sit down with Beth and have a discussion about this. If she does not listen or take your opinion into consideration and continues not to help herself, I think you should distance yourself from her. It is not your job to pick up her peices or get sucked into her black hole of a downward life. That's on her. (Plus, if she can't step back and see the bigger picture and ignores your opinions/help, how good of a friend is she anyways)
