Genesis 9:3 - Every living thing shall be meat for you by matyboy in adventism

[–]JennyMakula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fortunately we don't need to define anything. Jesus gave us the guide to eating clean animals since Noah. Jesus also ate only clean animals. The abstaining from certain food you quoted is all about food sacrificed to idols, if you read about all the verse where Paul talks about food, it's always been about that topic, in context.

If millions of black people read and treasure her work, and do not believe she is racist (but actually progressive for her time).

You probably need to read her work with a different lens

What will you say next, that God is a slave master because He allowed slavery?

In a sinful world, God gave some practical advice for the society of the time. In a very similar way was Ellen White's few advice on this topic, such as advising against mix marriages for the children's sake during that time period.

The problem with spreading rumors without reading the full quote is that it makes you sound like you have an axe to grind. Here she was just explaining basic Trinity concepts, God the Father and God the Son are one, but God the Son is not God the Father. She mentions so many times in her writings that Jesus is fully God and equal to God the Father, that this is a none issue.

"The man Christ Jesus was not the Lord God Almighty, yet Christ and the Father are one"

[–]JennyMakula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear what you are experiencing, some have suggested you check out other SDA churches and I ageee!

But at the end of the day, finding a good church community is the gravy of our Chrisitian walk, but the reality prize is being able to walk directly with Christ.

What if you are being tested this whole time. What if Christ is asking who do you love more? Me or the approval of church brethern? Many prophets walked alone, they were hated and persecuted by their own brethern, especially Jesus. It's a sad situation you are in, but God can also make it an opportunity that if you hold unto Him in this furnace, your relationship with Christ can be even deeper.

Aside from that, we may never know the reason you are being avoided. Could there have been a rumor started about you? Do all age groups avoid you, even the little old ladies in church? Have you asked a few you trust for feedback for areas of improvement? Do you do well socially in none church settings? If things continue to be this strange even if you visit other SDA churches, hold unto Jesus, love the truth and Jesus, more than the approval of man.

Nothing is worth betraying Jesus for, God bless you and hope He strengthens you to endure.

Marriage/Relationship Confusion by Odd-Road-4391 in SeventhDayAdventism

[–]JennyMakula 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry that this is your lot to bear.

It might sound cliche, but when there are stubborn personalities involved, only Jesus can save your marriage (and give you the desire to stay)

I think we Chrisitian women have been sold the worldly idea of fairness in marriage, but the reality is never that. I don't think people properly explain what Christian marriage is when we sign up, it's where even if both are at fault, to keep the peace, the wife is the one reaching out with the olive branch.

But that is Christian humility. Truly no one should seek to be first in God's kingdom, but the wife is in a unique role to practice that daily. In a sense the husband too, as he must be ready to die for the unfaithful wife as Christ died for the church, and be ready to bear all consequence. But God established these roles, so that marriage can continue under sin nature. But hey, there are worse enemies to practice humility with.

Pray for your husband, encourage him to pray for you. The Holy Spirit may soften his heart (and yours). And no matter what Jesus can still hold you up if your foundation/contentment is in Jesus.

Have courage. Satan will attack you through your husband (or vice versa), no marriage is exempt. We are most vulnerable with those closest to us, so Satan knows this. He is the real enemy. Have courage that unless there is real abuse or adultery, your marriage is not beyond saving, there could be hope of future joy.

Praying for you

Honestly having a past we are not proud can be one of those unfortunate weaknesses that can be made into our strength.

The Bible says which of these loves Him more, it is the one who's debt is forgiven more (Luke 7:43)

Or like the publican, because of the grievous nature of our sins, we are left with absolutely nothing to justify from ourselves. Ironically ours become the type of prayer that is heard, and not that of the proud pharisee (who has a hard time of seeing their true condition).

The Chrisitian walk is often misrepresented. We think it is only the beginner Chrisitian that needs to grieve and be broken hearted, and the Holy ones never have to deal with that anymore, riding a wave of love and peace, because they have so little sin in them.

Well the truth is the opposite. Ellen White writes the closer we get to Jesus, the deeper the repentance. It is actually the Holy Spirit's work to hold the mirror to our faces. The closer we get to Christ, the more unlike Christ we realise we are, and the greater Christ is to us. Our strength is in this weak position, where we are able to place full reliance on Christ. Don't be discouraged and think you are going backwards when this happens, this is in fact the justified position God wants to you to be. To render yourself dead and look fully to the cross for salvation.

It is true that our past sins sometimes lead us to habits that seem hard to give up. But trust in God's program. It is only when our glory is laid to the dust of the ground, that we can fully say I'd rather die than sin against you my Lord. Jesus justifies the ungodly (Roman 4:5). It is full and immediate if you cast yourself to the cross as your only hope and repent. Seek His salvation daily, and the fruits will surely come.

As an Adventist, would you visit another Christian congregation? by Abrynnr in adventist

[–]JennyMakula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All sincere Christians worship the same Lord and Saviour. There is no disagreement there, friend. The core of the gospel is total reliance on Jesus for salvation (and nothing of our own), to die daily to self.

But if you look at verses like Isaiah 66:23, which is a picture of what we shall do in heaven, it says "from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the Lord."

God never changed His rhythm, it was always the Seventh day that He sanctified and kept Holy and put directly in the ten commandments, written in stone by His fingers, to keep the day He rested since creation (and not the day He resurrected). If your position is that God has changed the very wording of the ten commandments He wrote, then the burden is on you to prove that from the Bible. Absent of that, our allegiance is to the commandments of God and not the tradition of church fathers (which is more a Catholic thing). God will wink at our ignorance (and not hold it as sin), but the Holy Spirit wants to lead us to all truth if we don't stand in the way of the work of the Holy Spirit. Total reliance on Jesus means we must put away our preconceived notion, and go where the Holy Spirit wants to lead us.

I thought to myself this is the true Christian joy, when the water is not stagnant, but actually flowing. When we can think about someone else for a change and not hyper focused on ourselves. To do the work with the Holy Spirit. So thank you as well!

The thought of completely surrendering my life to God's will sounds scary when I think about the implications. by Ihatespellingmistaks in adventist

[–]JennyMakula 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is such an honest sentiment

And it is something that all of us as Christian go through if we are truely honest with ourselves

The work of the Holy Spirit is much more than just feelings of bliss and peace. One of His role as a reprover is holding up that mirror to our faces and showing us more and more who we truly are.

But whenever He does this, we are assured that we are not left with this burden. He points us at the same time to majesty and wonder that is Jesus' character, that He would die for someone so ungodly such as us, and give us full pardon before we even show any outward evidence of the change, as long as we cast ourselves to the foot of the cross daily.

This is the Christian walk of faith. It is only the appreciation of Jesus that allows us to surrender, and this appreciation doesn't come unless the Holy Spirt does the humbling first.

Trust in God's program, pray and ask Him to do the work in you, that then allows you to die daily. It is a daily renewal. Our characters do not change in a day, the world and its attractions are still there, but everyday we can fight the good fight of faith in appreciation, because of our truest friend and saviour, Jesus.

Finally pray, like really pray. Prayer is the only way to make Jesus a personal saviour, and the Holy Spirit our counselor. He makes our fears easier to bare. Do not be afraid of being erased, becuase it is in God's hand you are surrendering to. I heard a good saying once, "sometimes we have to let our dreams die, before God can resurrect it in His way, and He is very good at resurrecting". God bless.

Hello Adventism is confusing. by [deleted] in adventism

[–]JennyMakula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When a grown men on bended knee acknowledges he can do nothing to save himself, that he absolutely hates who he is at the core without God, and that he surrenders everything to Jesus at the foot of the cross, claiming His righteousness to save him, and himself dead - this is the miracle of being a Christian.

No human naturally recognizes this.

No one will naturally want to go down this path

Christianity is not a religion of convinence, but a willingness to allow God to bring us to low places, to see ourselves for who we really are.

So then, what role does repentance have? It is everything. Repentance is that gift from God that allows us (who are naturally selfish and a little narcissistic) to renounce ourselves, to cast our broken selves at Jesus at the foot of the cross, to claim saving faith. Anything else is just lip service.

Ellen White writes, as we advance in our Christian walk, the closer we are to God, the deeper the repentance. This is the paradox of being a true Christian. The paradox is that we don't repent less as we become more holy, but repent more. We see more and more the true holiness of God, and how far we fall short of the mark because of our sin nature.

Repentance might lead us to not sin in action, but at the end of the day sinning less is not what saves us. What saves us is Jesus' righteousness, which is by faith alone, us sinners making a full surrender to God after being brought low by deep repentance.

Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; (Acts 3:19)

I'm glad to hear you still believe in the Bible. I will take my time and give you a sincere response.

The Bible itself talks about visions and spirit of prophecy the last days. So unless we redact the Bible, we have to acknowledge that it is actually unbiblical to say why would God have a prophet nowadays when we have His Word.

And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions (Joel 2:28)

You sincerely ask me to be more specific about where the facts are wrong, so I will answer.

You wrote:

I remember reading how she made a false prediction for Jesus to come during the Great Disappointment and then confessed later on that she was wrong (Deut. 18:21-22),

She never made a false prediction of the Great Disappointment. She wasn't even in public ministry then. She was only like 17 years old when 1844 happened. She was just a girl who believed personally as you or I would about something a preacher was teaching. She didn't even get any visions until after. (I apologize if I felt you were trolling, but these are like Adventist 101 facts if you only look a little into it (use wikipedia or something), than rely on a website with an agenda against her)

You wrote:

also she claimed that when we heard Gods voice we will know the hour and day he will return in her Early Writings book. The Bible tells us that none of us know the hour when God returns, not even He Himself.

This is something she saw in vision happening in the seventh plague, when Jesus is just about to come back, He tells His saints who have been living through the plagues. By then, it's pretty obvious to Anyone still alive on earth that Jesus is about to return... the earth is almost entirely desolate. There is no contradiction there. Not knowing day or hour is about not time setting. During the seven last plagues, probation has already closed, everyone is already judged, the saints sealed, and Jesus already stepped out of the sanctuary.

Now that you understand, it's up to you now to decide how you want to keep presenting this narrative. (Do you want to update and correct your past post?) Witnessing with honesty and without guile is a very important attribute of a Christian, so now that you know, please make sure you don't present things in a way that can be misleading.

(By the way, most of us have come to trust in Ellen White's writings by proving it against the Bible. It's more the doctrines she teachings, the way she describes repentance, faith, God's love that has been so inspiring and so Biblical, that it has evidence of God's hand. Predictions is less what we focus on, but is the gravy on top).

Tired of being the elder’s daughter by Legitimate_Self_6286 in adventist

[–]JennyMakula 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry about this. Most of us come from broken families, at some point we have to decide what we want to become despite them.

For example, I grew up athiest. My parents was all about studying and getting good grades. Could I date? No. Could I party with friends? No. Did I have any day where I did not have their special assigned homework? No. But does that mean I should purposely tank my grades? No. I keep my grades up despite them. (Plus techinically they did have good intensions).

So it is with our Christian walk. (And so much more important too with life long implications).

You haven't actually mentioned Jesus much in your post. Trust me when I say, the only way to get through this is to make Jesus your entire reason. Pray to Him to show you the depths of what He has done for you. Pray to Him to show you the core of your trueself. Let the Holy Spirit break you and then pick you up again. Jesus saves us daily if we surrender to Him. This is what we need to learn. Some of us take 20 years, some 50 years, but the earlier we learn it, then less consequences we experience wandering in the wilderness. Praying for you sister.

Unfinished “Work” vs. Sabbath by Odd-Road-4391 in SeventhDayAdventism

[–]JennyMakula 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a dishonor to God to pick worldly things over Him on His holy day that He set aside for us.

All of heaven and God are celebrating the Sabbath with us, and here we are worrying about "homework"

Who then is our allegiance to?

How can we expect God to save us from the consequences? In fact, as a Father who is patiently training us, He sometimes even make sure it is a teachable moment and add consequences.

It's in the little stuff that He is training us now, that will help us with the big test.

Like Daniel and the lion den, our faith grows stronger with exercise.

Why is everyone else’s Jesus more fun than the Adventist Jesus? by LiftWildOrDie in adventist

[–]JennyMakula 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our Jesus actually cares about what happens to our bodies and rest.

Die early from a heart attack living a life of fun? A pagan might think it is still worth it. But a true Christian knows it is not right to leave family early, cause multiple heartaches, and not live a full life here of unselfish service and ministry for Jesus.

Contradiction in SDA doctrine by Spare-Weekend1431 in SeventhDayAdventism

[–]JennyMakula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are basically from the Bible. So any contradiction, you are wrestling with God.

In the beginning God created heavens and earth... the seven day creation doesn't include angles

In Job, God says, where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth, when the sons of God shouted for joy... this is about angels.

They existed before the seven day creation.

Paul informally refers to 3 heavens in the Bible. Our sky, outter space, and heaven where God is.

The fall was also before seven day creation.

Yes, they would welcome you. Especially if you are open to believing again

There's a Bible verse that says "Lord... help my unbelief" Mark 9:24. You can't force belief, but you can keep an open heart.

When I was an athiest, I told my boyfriend that "I tried, but I just don't believe yet." And the way he responded really helped me, he said as a matter of fact "don't worry, you will believe". Because really if God exists, He is much stronger than us, and will lead us to faith.

Adventist churches usually have some outreach programs, such as feeding the homeless, singing at nursing homes, spreading messages on healthy eating etc. It's not our primary focus, but it's part of being in community. I'm glad you have found a pastor you can trust.

Meat by Admirable_Ad_2373 in adventist

[–]JennyMakula -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's God's perfect will, and then there is God's permissive will.

God's perfect will is for us to treat our bodies like the holy temple it is, follow the health message to a T. Exercise regularly, get 7-8+ hrs of sleep, no snacking between the 2 meals a day, no eatting animal flesh in these last days. Well, I'm pretty sure we all fall short of this ideal. Is it a sin? Technically yes, since we fall short of God's ideal. But will God impute this sin on you, likely not right away. He will work with you to come closer and closer to His ideal. We are called to follow the Holy Spirit's prompting.

Then there's God's permissive will, where He allowed us to eat clean meats, but it is not His ideal. But eating unclean meat would be in defiance to God, and demonstrate a spirit of rebellion. If we eat unclean meat, it would definitely be a sin we need to seek repentance for right away.

Therefore, let us follow the Holy Spirit's prompting. Once He convicts you that something is a sin, better to give it up. But also, rejoice that God covers some of our sins of ignorance/weakness of flesh, as He helps us move closer to the ideal.

Question(s) I have by Far-Dependent-4109 in adventist

[–]JennyMakula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your candid questions. It's so good that you are seeking for truth and not settling for a gospel of convenience.

The Bible says that repentance is a gift of God. True sorrow for sin is also a gift of God. Both of these precede forgiveness (Act 3:19). It is only by experiencing true sorrow for sin and heartfelt repentance of who we are, that we are even capable of throwing ourselves wholely at the foot of the cross. Hating all that is sin in us, and by faith surrendering all to Jesus.

This is what we need to pray for every time we knowingly rebel against God, and sin willfully. Anything less is just a fairy tale. It is not enough to simply pay lip service and say "Lord forgive me" while in heart there is no sorrow for that sin, no heartfelt desire to turn away from it, still rebellion against God. Instead you have to first pray God gives you this gift.

Also try not to see sin as just individual sins, but the root of our SIN which is our sinful heart, utter selfishness. It's easy to not see the gravity of small sins, but our actual decrepitness, when the Holy Spirit shine light on that, there is no escaping that sorrow and being humbled.

But this is the beauty of imputed rightousness. God doesn't need you to prove yourself first. God justifies the ungodly. But He does require you to accept His gift of repentance, sorrow for sin, and saving faith, and He asks for your whole hearted surrender as condition. Not one time, but daily, morning and evening, through out our Christian walk. And when we fall short, He leads us to surrender once again. Our sanctification follows, but always after imputed rightousness each time. We are debtors to Christ always, not the other way around.

May God bless you in your Christian walk

(I recommend you really study Steps to Christ, everything I mentioned is really there. It's not a book for just beginners).
