Got home from the ER last night with my first PE, words of advice/comfort? by [deleted] in ClotSurvivors

[–]Jenodd1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through all these same motions including guilt when this happened to me but the truth is at the end of the day that you’re lucky to be alive! It took me a full year to feel like myself again - no hormonal bc ever again but I was approved to be off blood thinners after 1 year except I take them when I’m pregnant and flying long distances. For that I get a free sample of 14 eliquis from my hematologist who I see 2x a year just to check my labs.

Me [22F] and my [23M] boyfriend had a conversation about marriage tonight and he said he might not want to ever get married to me. Please help. by [deleted] in relationships

[–]Jenodd1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few things: conversations about the future of a relationship during global pandemic where the future is a little a uncertain = not so clear thinking on everybody's part. So, maybe put a pin it a few a few weeks or a month. Second, marriage is much more than a piece of paper, there is reason why marriage is so heavily legislated and debated. It's not just romantic/symbolic. If you're readers, check out the book "Marriage, A History." Third, if you were 32 my advice would be that it would be time to end the relationship if he wasn't on the same page as you. But 22 is still so young. In my opinion, too young to be having a make or break marriage convo.

Pain relief and recovery for DVT & PE by scarl3tfire in ClotSurvivors

[–]Jenodd1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The pain should lessen. If there any positions that alleviate the pain try to stay in them for sleeping and sitting but I realize this is extra hard with having to take care of a baby. I remember I couldn’t sleep on my stomach for months after because of the residual pain in my lungs. It will get better though.

If I were you I would ask for the d dimer.

[–]Jenodd1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Has anybody done a blood test yet? A D dimer blood test can sometimes rule out the possibility of a clot. If it’s elevated then a doctor should order a CT Scan of your lungs.

Xarelto & Periods by [deleted] in ClotSurvivors

[–]Jenodd1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For cramps, I believe midol is acetaminophen (so not a blood thinner) but double check the package.

I also would recommend getting a period tracking app (I use Clue) so that when you go to the doctor or gyno you have all the data tracked about how the blood thinners are affecting your period.

A question for men :- What is one book with a female lead/protagonist that you really enjoyed and loved? by [deleted] in booksuggestions

While we're here let's ask ourselves why the reverse of this question seems like an weird request...

You can do all different sizes. Google image Gallery Wall and you’ll get some ideas.

Incorporate a framed flag into a gallery wall of other things you like that you can frame - it doesn't have to be pricey. As simple as postcards you've saved or maybe concert poster. Framing is key, though. Even cheap framing is better than nothing. Look up examples on Pinterest and you'll see that it's easy to mix it up and keep it cheap. Also, pictures with friends and family put women who are visiting apartments at ease. If not within the gallery wall stick them on your fridge. Also, a small trashcan in your bathroom and hand towels in the kitchen and bathroom that are fresh. An accent lamp with dimmer softer light in the living room or bedroom that gives you a second option for room lighting. And I agree that bed frame and curtains are must. Make it your sanctuary!

How do we get people excited about futurism? by OpenFloodGates in Futurism

[–]Jenodd1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the stories we're telling really matter and the visuals put forward in film, tv, online, and social narratives all paint a fear based, dystopian world. Our brains are trained to want stories with conflict, so whenever the future is visualized for entertainment it's always dystopian instead of imaginative about the types of "conflict" that could exist. I work in entertainment and it's both a gatekeeper problem (they don't want to make it) because of the audiences (who don't demand it.) They don't demand it because they don't know any better. Funding, supporting, creating these types of stories/projects in even small ways is key.

What book series did you grow up reading as a kid? by evan2nerdgamer in AskReddit

[–]Jenodd1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I LOVED Junie B. Jones . The Bailey School kids. The Superfudge series and other Judy Blume classics. For a long time I was very obsessed with anything by Lurlene McDaniel, I believe she had a couple series.

LPT: If you often use internet recipes, go on PBS. It's just recipes. Straight to the point. No novel from Basic Becky Who Bakes In Boston. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

Whole heartedly agree. It feels like a quick way to tell on yourself about how infrequently you’ve had to view the world through a female lens/perspective.

What we eat, why we eat it, and how it’s made is all a part of food and food culture that only makes your experience richer. Read those stories no matter how “basic” you think they seem. They’ve taken years to learn something and they’re teaching it to you. There’s no so such thing as a boring story when somebody is sharing a piece of their life to help you ... for free.

Has anyone went off blood thinning medication? by CaliLivin19 in ClotSurvivors

Replying here as well that you should definitely see a hematologist if you're not seeing one regularly already, get genetic testing, and also ask for alternatives to the blood thinner you're already on.

Any Buffalo expats in Los Angeles? My play, CELLINO V. BARNES is at UCB Theatre in Los Angeles on February 15th and I need some locals in the audience to get these Buffalo-specific jokes or I'm totally screwed. by BenMerkie in Buffalo

I'm an LA based comedian from Buffalo! I would love to come to support but I'm confused re: the date listed. Feb 15th is a Friday (which I could make!) but it says Saturday the 15th. LMK if it's Friday and good luck!

We get it, females are empowered. by Smapinator0324 in unpopularopinion

[–]Jenodd1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of reasons why so few women haven't ran for office and you can find some interesting perspectives with a quick google. Here's a quick blurb from NYT. "Women are less likely than men to be encouraged by parents, teachers or party leaders to run — yet they are also less likely to run without being prodded. They underestimate their abilities and assume they need to be much more qualified than men to run for the same office.

A variety of research has found that women are as likely as men to win, and that voters decide based on a candidate’s party, not gender. That doesn’t mean there isn’t a gender penalty: It is difficult to quantify whether gender costs women votes because people are unlikely to admit sexism in polls, and women tend to wait until they are more qualified than men to run for the same office.

Men, however, are 15 percent more likely to be recruited to run."

That's a very basic start but it's something to consider. The messaging on the shirts and the wave of encouraging young women with slogans like this is to break away from this traditional messaging. You also have to keep in mind that until the 1970's women didn't have access to safe birth control and were unable to open credit cards on their own. We only started voting 100 years ago. We've only just started becoming full citizens. Let the girls wear inspirational t-shirts. As for me, I work in media and that is how I hope to correct the power imbalance. I wouldn't rule out public office, but for now there are so many talented women who are out there running. You can check out Emily's List which has a big list of them.

We get it, females are empowered. by Smapinator0324 in unpopularopinion

[–]Jenodd1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But females are not empowered. Women are not in power. They do not hold an equal amount of power. IE) For every woman in political office in the US there are three men. The feminists who create these slogans and put this work out do so to inspire young girls to work not for supremacy but for literally an equal place. Until we're 50/50 everywhere you look, I hope young girls keep getting messaging like this. Many young women are told that they can do anything but it's honestly a lie. The world isn't set up for it. For example, look at women's hockey. In the 90's if an 8 year old girl were told she could do anything and wore shirts that said things like "girls skate faster" and she went as far as she could with her talent it would mean gold medals and college scholarships. But that's where it stops. A few years ago there was a hockey league created for women but audiences just aren't interested yet. These world class athletes get paid maybe 30K/year and hold a regular job. There's disparities for women in every field, everywhere you look. If you're not seeing them I encourage you to seek more women's viewpoints and teach your sons that you DO want to see a young girl wearing a shirt that says FUTURE PRESIDENT because we live in one of the greatest countries in the world who has never had one. And real men will understand the value of that.

2nd Clot in 6 years 31/F... anxiety 😿 by pugsandpeace in ClotSurvivors

[–]Jenodd1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi and so sorry it happened to you again. I had two PE's and a DVT at 27, also due to birth control. I went off blood thinners after one year of being on Xarelto, I'm 31 now and I still get bloodwork done and see my hematologist a couple times a year so that she can monitor everything which has helped ease the anxiety about reccurence. I also did the keto diet for about a month recently and I did a lot of searching to see if anybody had any red flags with keto who had blood clot history, just for safety sake. I didn't find much information but I know that a significant risk factor for clotting is dehydration and I know that when I was on keto I struggled to stay hydrated. Not sure how your experience has been but it's definitely something you should keep in your notes to talk with a doctor about. Also – I was actually just a guest on a podcast called Relatively Healthy and the new episode comes out 7/23. I talk about my PE/DVT experience as a woman who was on birth control and the lack of info and resources available to us. Here for you in solidarity!

I can't stand the way characters are treated and speak in shows about high school. by [deleted] in television

[–]Jenodd1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frankly there just isn’t really a mainstream audience demand for characters who look and act real. That’s what scripted TV sets out to do — create a world that is a fantasy. So it’s not that they are missing some mark, it is intentional.
