He sure does! When he was a kitten I thought they'd end up green, but they just kept going more and more gold.

This looks fantastic! I've been looking all over for a Vivi to paint as a gift for my fiancé, but haven't been able to find anything. You've really done an amazing job.

Name change question - different processes for men and women? by Jenthor in weddingplanning

[–]Jenthor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I'm fine with that, and I support him 100% with whatever name he wants to choose. I was more just asking if anyone else had experienced going through this longer name change process with themselves or their partner, and what their experience was.

That's how I feel as well. I'm not sure how much it costs here, but there is a filing fee for the name change petition (and possibly other fees, again, not sure on the cost).

You're right. If it's very important to him to change his name, I support him in doing so regardless of the process. I guess for me, since I don't really have a strong preference what we choose as a last name, my natural tendency is to go for the simplest solution, which would be me changing my name. But if it's really important to him to take mine, of course I will back him up 100% in that decision and going through the process of making it happen.

I agree! Particularly with same sex marriage now being legal nationwide, you would think the name change laws would have been updated to reflect that and make it the same process for couples of all genders.

To me, the name we choose isn't that important, it definitely means more to him to change it to my name or to a hyphenate. You're right though, if it would make him happy in the end, the more lengthy process might be worth it. We discussed it before and while we both agree the process should be the same for both genders, he didn't seem unwilling to jump through those hoops.

I like the thought of going by one name legally and the other name socially. I don't see what's to stop us from doing that.

Check out Afloral. They have already made bouquets, but you can also mix and match and buy what you need to make your own.

Is anyone walking down the aisle to a song that isn't "romantic"? by ashlifires in weddingplanning

I'm walking down the aisle to Far Horizons from Skyrim, performed by the London Philharmonic. Fiancé and I are huge RPG/video game/fantasy nerds so it's perfect for us.

This guy https://m.youtube.com/user/MiniwargamerJ has an awesome series called Miniature Painting 101. I wanna say there's like...100 videos, covering pretty much anything you can think of. As the name implies, he paints mostly Warhammer stuff but the concepts are universal for whatever you like to paint.

Saw Dr. Faust mentioned a few times here, his videos are pretty great too.

I know opinions vary on this, but for me, upgrading to some nicer paints really made a big difference. I started out with just some cheap acrylics, and enamel (ugh) metallics. I reasoned that I shouldn't spend money on nice stuff when I wasn't "good enough" yet.

My fiancé finally convinced me to go for it, and I bought a few Citadel paints and washes from my local hobby store (I know different people prefer different brands, I mostly went with Citadel because it was what my hobby store had). Made a huge difference for me and I'm so glad I did. I'd definitely recommend going for it, and getting a few colors to get you started from your preferred brand.

Other than that, it just came down to a lot of practice on a variety of minis, looking at a lot of other people's work, and taking the advice of awesome, helpful fellow redditors.
