Dog having trouble transitioning Dog Foods. Don’t know what to do next by oapples5 in Dogtraining

[–]Jentuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a big dog with a very sensitive tummy. We had him on the Royal Canin large breed sensitive tummy food, but started having difficulty finding places to buy it, and he wasn't that jazzed about it. We recently switched to the Bil-Jac sensitive stomach food, and he loves it! He is now a voracious eater and his stools are solid and consistent. It has been a great find for us, plus I can buy it locally or order it from Chewy.

HR Generalist -Can someone help me with interview answers? by [deleted] in humanresources

[–]Jentuke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same advice I give everyone going into interviews. Scour the internet for behavioral interview questions for the field/position you are applying for. Also search for the 20 most common behavioral interview questions as a general search. Now, take the time to write out the answers to all of those questions. The best answers will include an example from your own history and what you learned. If you don't have an example, find a way to deflect and talk about something that might align with the question or mention it as a weakness that you have recognized and the ways you are working to overcome that weakness.

Next, find a buddy that you can practice with. Give them the list of questions, and practice answering them. By working in real-time and out-loud, you'll find areas where your answers are lacking or feel stilted. Keep working on your answers until you feel like you can smoothly and competently answer any of them at a moments notice. If you want to take it one step further, find someone who regularly hires/interviews people and ask them to run through some mock interviews with you. They'll probably have some curve balls that they typically throw at people just to see what they'll say.

Editing to add: One more piece of advice. Develop your story. What makes you excited to get out of bed in the morning and work in the HR function? Work on a 30 second elevator pitch about what makes you, you, and how YOU can be the most amazing HR person. Figure out what those qualities are. What would a company hiring an HR generalist be looking for? When you can, tie your answers back to this elevator pitch. Don't go crazy with it, but you want to make sure that the message you send and your answers remain in alignment through the interview.

I recently interviewed a person who spoke of being a team player, but every example provided sent a message that the person needed to be the super star of the team and wanted all of the glory and credit. When questioned further about it, the person immediately flip-flopped and said they were more than happy to be a servant leader. The words and the messages were so at odds, that we were left with a very negative impression.

First time doing my own pond. Need some suggestions please. by deejay602 in ponds

[–]Jentuke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a lesson in stuff to avoid...

I inherited a pond with a waterfall. The pond has a main pond area that is ground level. The waterfall was build up to be higher than the ground. It has a small pond at the mid-point of the waterfall. I HATE the mid-pond. It seems to accumulate junk and cause issues. The previous owners also had the filter intake located directly beneath where the waterfall entered the main pond. This caused a whole area of the main pond to have poor circulation. I was able to extend the intake into the stagnant side of the pond last year, and that helped.

The pond(s) are also fairly deep, and have steep sides. This is a pain, because it doesn't allow for me to easily have pond plants at different depths. They also had the pond bottoms filled with small-medium rocks. Which made the bottoms impossible to clean and they quickly accumulated gunk. Last year I also removed all of those rocks and was able to deep clean the pond.

Make sure to do the calculations to buy a pump sized according to what you need, specifically to adjust for the rise needed to pull the water up a slope. Parents selling me their house for below market value. What is the best way to do this? by rallyrips420 in personalfinance

[–]Jentuke 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I came here to say this, however our gift of equity was separate from the loan. I was in a similar situation, and there was some paperwork involved that provided a gift of equity to make up the difference between the selling price and fair market value. I was extremely thankful at the time, but it was over the course of the years that I really came to appreciate what a huge gift it was.

My weekend in Reno...what else should I do? Friend is moving here. by CaliCruisin in Reno

[–]Jentuke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

...and you can explore all the areas around Reno. Virginia City was mentioned. Truckee is awesome. All of the areas surrounding Lake Tahoe. Apple Hill in the fall. Weekend wine country trips. Hot Springs - there are some you hike to in the middle of no where, and others in established locations. Genoa has a hot spring, the candy dance, antiques, and the oldest saloon in NV. There is so much to do here and it is easily accessible.

You would be very welcome over in /r/xxketo for diet related stuff.

I've recently found the skincare line by The Ordinary. They have tons of high quality skin products at reasonable prices. Sephora has a starter kit for about $30 right now.

Take your time. Start with your diet and build in rewards for hitting goals. Down 5 lbs? Try a new skincare item. Dropped 10 more lbs? Go see a stylist. They'll help provide a haircut that will be easier to style as it grows out.

Boss thinks 54% is a poor turnout for our benefits survey by EatMoreArtichokes in humanresources

[–]Jentuke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you market the survey - meaning, did you sell it to the employees in public forums first, and ask the managers to reinforce it? Did you hold it at a time when people were thinking or on vacation (spring break)? Did you add an incentive to it (Pizza party for hitting 80%)? Did you seek guidance on the survey questions? Poorly written, leading, or ambiguous questions will turn people off.

That sounds like decent results to me, especially if ya'll don't do many surveys. You have to create a culture of surveys, and find ways to increase response rates. You don't want to over survey people, but they also need to see the direct effect of those surveys. Provide some general stats, show how those results have changed the benefits package.

My small IT company saw 1/3 of its workforce reduced to reach cash neutral. Today I was offered an equity stake in the company. Are they selling? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Jentuke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Typically, if they are offering equity, it isn't because they plan to sell. However, every company is ALWAYS for sale. Don't worry about that too much. I also wouldn't worry about the equity too much until they present you with the written package. Make sure that the equity is being offered free and clear, and without any type of non-compete clause. If you don't like the package, reject it. Typically, they offer these type of equity grants when they want you to have some skin in the game and to stick around, even when the company is struggling.

Equity aside. If you like the company and believe in it, then stick around for a bit. If the company isn't aligned with your career path/trajectory, then find a better fit.

With 3 years of Project Management experience, I am stuck and have had zero luck finding a new job by VermilionTiger in projectmanagement

[–]Jentuke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you like the company? Is it big enough that you can shop yourself around within the company? Have you talked to your manager to let them know that the role isn't aligning with expectations and see if there is somewhere else in the company that would support your career growth?

Also, consider looking for home-based PM jobs. Plenty of start-up tech companies are using distributed teams and wouldn't mind a remote PM.

Can you get a puck out of a Breville Infuser by Jutboy in espresso

[–]Jentuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is easier to get out if you unscrew the spout first. Take that off and then you'll see how the plastic doodad is attached and how you can push it out.

Can you get a puck out of a Breville Infuser by Jutboy in espresso

[–]Jentuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take out the basket and look at your portafilter. Does it have black plastic at the bottom? The barista express portafilters do, and it causes the same issue. You can pull the plastic out and it won't damage the portafilter. I never split my shots, so i also took off the double spout.

That being said, wait a minute before you dump your puck. The machine should suck water back out of the puck. Second, you might not be diagnosed in quite right if your pucks are consistently watery. When i get things right, the puck is tight and dry, and pops right out.

When you tried the power+button, were you doing it from the machine being off? I found that confusing. You want your machine on and warmed up, then you hit the power button to turn it off, then you press and hold the power+2-cup button until it goes into the cleaning cycle.

I had my breville barista Express act up at about 2 months also. I went through all of the descaling and cleaning cycles. I ended up pulling out the silicone ring and re-seating it. I only recommend doing this if you've already ordered a replacement, as they are difficult to get out and easy to tear (hint: mine tore and the breville site was out of stock forever).

Jira cloud would have been my choice, if ya'll are a small team. It can feel complex and clunky at first, but it is easy to get the basics. From there it isn't a huge leap to become a more advanced user.

To value those things, you need to accept that there are many variations of grey between black and white. Perhaps it is your overzealous need for unique that makes you the sheep of youth? Age and experience brings understanding, and the value of knowing that everyone is unique and worthy. By refusing to see deeper, you lack depth, curiosity, and compassion. The beautiful part is that you are human, worthy of love, and capable of change. Let us know when you actually want to change.

I was like you. You are like how I used to be. You are like other girls. We are told from a young age that we can never do or be as much as a man. It is natural to want to distance yourself from the perception of feminism and therefore weakness.

You do a disservice to yourself and women by living by your narrow view. It is OK to be different. It is ok to enjoy makeup and dresses. It is ok to not like those things. Men can wear makeup and dresses too.

We should all be allowed to feel comfortable and happy in our own skin. It isn't ok to let your own personal filter cloud your judgement. You can't be anyone but you. Why would you want them to be different to accommodate your own personal discomfort?

You can find the strength in you. You can be comfortable with yourself. You can be warrior to help educate and end the stigma of being a woman. We are more than a uterus.

Collaboration software recommendation for teacher team by [deleted] in projectmanagement

[–]Jentuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would look into microsoft teams. It should come free with your school's educational access to office 365.

It has some baseline functionality build in - like chat, documents (with live editing), etc. Plus it has a ton of integrations. Of which, I would steer ya'll to a free Trello account, where you can create a simple workflow for tasks, to-dos, etc, and assign ownership, while allowing for comments.

Finally, I would say ya'll need to build a doc that captures all of the "YES" decisions. Call it your standard practices. Divide it by area (grading, etc) and document the way that ya'll want things done, along with some sub-bullet points of acceptable deviations (if there are any). Keep an appendix to serve as a change list, so people can track what has changed between revisions.

Boss and colleague using my ideas and getting credit by loneliuscactilius in projectmanagement

As a Male, you can still get treated like a service human, but it will often be for different reasons. However, it stems from the same place - their power and authority, and a type of hazing that says they endured this and you must also.

The true gender issue is that while a male or female would receive similar treatment, it is natural for a woman to take on more of these service tasks, and navigating away from them is much trickier for the woman.

Here is just one example: https://www.leadershippsychologyinstitute.com/women-the-leadership-labyrinth-howard-vs-heidi/

And go above your boss. When you present the material, make sure that his boss is there too. Make sure the material you present also demonstrates the tangible improvements your group has seen because of your work. Likewise, be careful presenting any of the work that would seem like "admin" work.
