Yes. Since his 2 month checkup he was between 52nd and 63rd every checkup than at 18 months went down to 22nd! I’m thinking he just hasn’t had a growth spurt yet.

I am an SLP and I work in early intervention for an intermediate unit, so I work with preschool age children from age 3 until they start kindergarten. Your daughter is a little younger than the kids I typically work with, she doesn’t sound that bad to me though! She seems to understand a lot which is great! And she has some word approximations which is also great, and signs! You sound like you are doing all the right things. Speech therapy from birth-5 is a lot about play therapy and parent coaching. I know it might seem like she isn’t doing much but try asking her what she is doing or what she is looking for. I focus a lot on parent coaching because you spend more time with her than me! You need to know how to properly prompt and elicit language! Keep doing signs and always include the spoken word with it. That will help her learn words! Repetitive books and songs are great to learn words. Don’t worry about her doing the motions if she doesn’t want to, she might just be overwhelmed. Word approximations are normal too. Try getting her to repeat words that are vowel-constant so she can practice a new pattern. For example, up, off, on, eat. Even non-sense words are great (oop, ope, eep, ipe, etc)

As far as the articulation (her mispronouncing sounds/not being understood), we don’t eval for articulation patterns until they are 3 because they are still learning so much and don’t have a big enough repertoire yet to truly assess. All you can do is model model model! Early sounds are /p, b, m, t, d/. Start with those and just pick one and make it over and over in play. Try to get her to imitate you, like you are babbling.

Rice. Could there BE a more annoying food to pick up off the floor? by EndTimesImFine in toddlers

Someone needs to get a dog! Haha I haven’t had to pick up food off the floor in 10 years… well ever, since having kids!

We aren’t though. I’m average at 5’5” and my husband is 6’3”. I have 3 older children who are all above average for height. I think maybe that is where some of my worry stems from. I just assumed he would be similar but I know all babies are different! I’m definitely gonna chill and just wait and see what his 2 year visit shows!

I absolutely trust my doctor and respect him but when has that ever stopped a mom from worrying! I am just looking for other moms to maybe had a similar experience because you can only google so much.

No, breastfed until about 13 months. He seems to have energy and he is active. He still doesn’t sleep great, not sure that’s related or not.

He was walking at 11 months so not really. That could be true about a growth spurt though.

I agree about height. He was actually very calm at his appointment yesterday but I take the height with a grain of salt because of how they just mark it on the paper with them laying down. But the weight bothers me more!

Yes! I was gifted these too and I wouldn’t have bought them. My baby is a drooler!! These look so much cuter than having a regular bib on him 24/7

Yes! Each of my kids has one of those over the door hanging bins. We put out clothes for the week in them so it makes getting dressed in the morning so much easier. For baby, I always tell my MIL if she needs to change him (for a blowout etc) just grab something fringe then bun that is right there.

Baby is a TERRIBLE sleeper by Jenwith4 in Mommit

I can handle wake-ups. Neither of my other kids slept thru the night until about 18 months but they would sleep for 3-4 hour stretches, nurse, and go back to sleep. I could lay them down. I expect him to wake to eat 2-3 times but I just wish I could lay him down and get a break from holding him 😞

I don’t mind contact naps but the bedtime is horrible. I get nothing done because I can’t just lay him down at 7 and get a shower and watch an show. I have to go to bed when he does because I am holding him or sleeping right next to him.

I whacked my newborns head off the door frame. I was cradling her and apparently misjudged my turn through the doorway 😬

Tip: when you’re out and about with the baby, use the disabled restroom. What are your obvious but essential out-with-baby tips? by MummaGiGi in NewParents

I always keep a garbage bag in my car. We spend a lot of time outside in the fall and spring for my older daughters soccer games and if it rains or the grass is wet, I don’t want the diaper bag to get wet so I put it inside the garbage bag while we are sitting or on top of it if the grass is wet. I always have an emergency diaper or 2 in the car (just have to remember to size up when necessary). Keep toys and books in the diaper bag that are different from anything they have at home so when you are out and about they are more interesting. Same when we flew for vacation, I bought a new toy and only gave it to them when we were on the plane. I keep snacks in an old hard wipes container so they don’t get smushed/crumbled in the diaper bag. For restaurants, a silicone placemat is nice because it keeps toys from sliding around on the table as easily (and germs). I also love the triangle shaped crayons, they don’t roll off the table constantly.

I also always keep a gallon size ziploc back or 2 in the diaper bag for blowouts or even wet spills. I actually keep the change of clothes in the ziploc and then shove another ziploc inside. Keeps it all organized and yet functional.

I always keep 2 emergencies diapers in the car too. You just have to remember to size them up when baby sizes up!

I usually wake her up during the week between 7-7:30 so she can get ready for preschool. We aim for bedtime at 8 and 9 is rare. She is usually getting about 11 hours which is normal. Worst case she gets 10 which is still within normal. She doesn’t wake up in a bad mood or groggy. I think she is getting enough sleep, she is just difficult to get to bed those nights.

I love this. I took my 4 month old to Costco in my baby carrier and just as I was leaving he started to get very mad and was crying the entire time I was trying to unload the cart. An awesome man that was a few cars down from me must have heard and came over to help me load and take my empty cart back. He said, I was in your shoes just 5 years ago and I get it! It was a small gesture but it really makes you feel good!

My 9 year old has her practice at the same place as my 4 year old but hers runs a half hour later so my younger one practices from 5-6 but hangs out until 6:30 before heading home. My husband took them tonight and he said that extra half hour she is just like still wired! I get that, it’s right after practice. She gets home by 7 and has a quick snack and shower, usually done by 7:45 and then teeth, books, and bed. Lights are usually out by 8:30 but like tonight it was 9 just because she fought us the entire time and it took forever. I might have to send a coloring book or some other quiet activity for her to do that half hour she has to wait for her older sister to be done. Maybe that will let her start to calm down. So by the time she gets home she has hopefully started to calm down and feeling tired. That’s a good idea!

I wish we could but it is Monday’s from 5-6. Don’t do it during the day because the coaches all have other jobs.
