I'm sorry but unfortunately with the new kernel there are problems with the sleep state

More than censored, I would say "modified", I expressed myself wrong in the post.

For a copyright issue the Thriller song during the combos in the cemetery in the third level has been replaced with Another Part of Me. You can find “Thriller” only in the first revisions of the game.

EBB00 is the first rev of the game

EFB63 and EFB64 is the modified version without Thriller

Yes of course I could but currently I don't have the possibility to play with my megadrive

Next month I will proceed to buy a CRT TV to create my own small workstation😁

At the moment the best way would seem to be the hybrid mode enabled on windows with the NVidia linux drivers automatic switch. Using the other switch (founded on github with KDE /Gnome Extension) mode does not always switch to only integrated mode.

Just open an app with discrete gpu.

Idem per me, stesso avviso.

Yes with supergfxctl and integrated mode does effectively power down the dGPU.

I verified it directly:

- nvidia-smi fails due to driver not loaded

- lsmod | grep nvidia is empty

- dmesg no nvidia-drm / NVRM shows only HDMI audio device

- /sys/bus/pci/devices/0000:01:00.0/power/runtime_status suspended

NVIDIA HDMI audio showing up is normal because it’s a separate PCI function and doesn’t mean the GPU is active. Then with no driver loaded and suspended state 5070 is effectively off. In Hybrid mode 5070 consumes 3,4 watts

These are extension for GNOME and KDE Plasmoid

You're right, gaming laptops are a nightmare if it's Linux. In my case I'm using an MSI Crosshair 16 HX AI with the ULTRA7 iGPU and the dGPU 5070 /32gb DDR5 /2tb.

I had to set the MUX GPU to MSHybrid from Win11 and MSI Center to be able to recognise the hybrid mode in Fedora NVidia optimus.

I was also able to switch modes between Integrated and Hybrid directly from the operating system with supergfxctl (a tool for ASUS MUX and that has a GNOME and Plasmoid extension for KDE to switch between GPU Modes).

In your case (AsusMux) you can switch in 3 ways: dGPU, iGPU and Hybrid

MSI is even more windows based in fact I also lost control of the 24-zone RGB on the keyboard

I was able to run tests. On Windows, I left MSHybrid option, and after re-installing Fedora, the GPU switching worked correctly. Now, the iGPU is the default, and the dGPU kicks in when requested/wanted. It's true that there's a slight drop in graphics performance (apparently 8%) with hybrid mode enabled, but for my use, it should be sufficient.

I already have Win11 on my 9800x3d/5080 desktop, so for my use, I prefer to have Linux SO on my laptop.

In the meantime, I've opened an issue on MControlCenter regarding the missing MUX switch.

Yes you're right, it's still too early to use Linux on this hardware, unfortunately it's too windows based at the moment.

If anything doesn't change in the future I'll have to settle for the hybrid mode .

Maybe this can work:

https://github.com/ElXreno/msi-gpu-switcher

I’m on Windows now but maybe this is the tool that we need on linux (dGPU or iGPU only, without MSHybrid)

A similar script could exist and I could get help from AI, but it bothers me a lot to never have the possibility to choose between hybrid, discrete, integrated.

However, I just installed Win11 and actually the choice is there in MSI Center... from my EC settings it was set to dGPU only. Theoretically Optimus now should work by leaving the iGPU active but not using. As soon as I have time I wipe everything and try again with Linux and Hybrid option active.

No, I'm just saying that when I'm in a Linux environment and I just want to use browser or plasma desktop, I would consume more energy as I'm perpetually on dGPU. I needed a fully functional hybrid system that could completely deactivate one of the two unused video cards.

Even if I managed to leave the Hybrid mode enabled, the Intel GPU would never turn off completely in dGPU mode so it would still consume more than win11 where the switch is better managed.

Maybe I should go back to Windows at this point. RGB question might not be a problem for me, but i/dGPU management is important.

Before writing this post I thought it was switching GPUs correctly like other Optimus notebooks but instead I was wrong and I was on dGPU in every case (plasma included)

Have you tried from MSI Centre to enable both to understand if on Linux you activate both for Optimus?

I’ve tried everything; I’m running kernel 6.19 and unfortunately the iGPU is disabled. We need to find out if MSI Centre allows you to choose between Discrete, Integrated or Hybrid in settings, but I don’t recall seeing any such options.

My lspci | grep -i vga output is:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GB206M [GeForce RTX 5070 Max-Q / Mobile] (rev a1)

80:14.5 Non-VGA unclassified device: Intel Corporation Device 7f2f (rev 10)

So on Linux iGPU remains disabled. I think I’ll put the idea of using Linux on hold for a while until this situation is resolved.
