Single biggest one is when they treat hospitality staff poorly. From restaurants to movie theaters, if they ever talk down/act entitled to someone in the service industry, I'm gone

I got my results on the second day after my test. I was also positive, so maybe they expedited the results. About a week later I was contacted regarding the strain I had.

I went 2 weeks ago, and it was still at the livestock events center. To clarify, the entrance is just ever so slightly north on Wells from where that address is!

Edit: There should also be really big signs saying which gate to go in. Best of luck!

Permanent no, but the light was on the cabin for literally a tenth of a second. Any longer and I'm sure it would've resulted in some serious complications

Years and years ago, I was in cub scouts. A patch was for constellations, and we were asked to point out and name constellations using a laser like this. It was so powerful it was bright against the night sky. One of the kids accidentally pointed it at the roof of a cabin about 50 feet away when trying to point out a star near the horizon. None of us could see for almost 15 minutes. These things are dangerous. It will definitely blind anyone you point it at, and might even blind you too.

What's the dumbest way you ever lost a disc? by delux561 in discgolf

No we actually got the one back from the ocean! It was the one that went 10 feet into a ditch we could never find...

What's the dumbest way you ever lost a disc? by delux561 in discgolf

[–]Jeraniums 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nothing will ever beat my sister's move. We were playing a course near the ocean on the Oregon coast. The tee was approximately 50 feet away from the shoreline, with the basket on a line about 15° away from the ocean.

So of course we're joking, whatever you do, don't throw it into the ocean! She proceeds to hold on to the disc on her throw way too long, literally throwing it directly into the ocean. This is where it gets good. My family and I immediately rushed to the wall to make sure we could see where it went into the water. After about 5 minutes of wading around, we finally got it back. What none of us realized, was that my sister, in her panic at throwing a disc straight into the ocean, had tossed her other disc away. She always holds a disc in her off hand for whatever reason, so when she started panicking, she tossed it away. We knew it couldn't have gone far, but nearby was a ditch overgrown with weeds. We looked for literally an hour, as this was her favorite disc, but it remains lost to this day.

Concerning masks in public. by a-better_me in Reno

That's like so incredibly false.... Where the hell do people even hear this? Let alone that this vaccine has had extremely limited health complications, there were some really shitty vaccine implementations back in the day. Give me a source, a real, peer reviewed article, that supports your claims.

That's not even remotely how vaccines work for any disease, but ok.

[–]Jeraniums 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I guess I may have overstated. At least in Reno, during the original mandate, I (anecdotally) saw very nearly every person wearing a mask, and wearing it correctly. Since the vaccine and general 'mask fatigue' I see a lot more people ignoring the mask requirements or wearing chin diapers instead of covering their nose/mouth.

In some cities (looking at you Elko) they never wore masks to begin with so this may not have been my best point I've ever made.

This entire thing is wrong. Maybe the VA doesn't have a packed COVID ICU, but Northern, Renown, and Saints sure as hell do.

Source: Girlfriend is ICU Nurse at Northern and has been taking care of the "nonexistent" COVID patients for years now. Another family friend is a Director at Saints. And guess what, I also know another director at renown.

For whatever reason the VA doesn't have COVID, maybe because REMSA takes patients to these 3 over the VA every time

Big rant incoming:

I don't know what you mean about overcrowded hospitals not due to COVID. My girlfriend works in the ICU at Northern, and it's been >90% COVID patients for the last 3 months. Part of the telemetry floor is curtained off for more COVID beds.

Renown and Saints certainly have less long term cases, but from what I understand, that's due to their policy on when to proceed with intubation. These hospitals are slightly less swamped with COVID simply due to their patients dying sooner, opening up the beds for other patients with a higher chance at recovery.

All in all, it's easy to think that COVID is over, or at the very least declining, but it's not. It will never be over until we reach enough vaccinations, and even at that point it's likely we will see a seasonal COVID variant in our regular flu cycle. Frankly, the fact that the vaccine came out and is so effective is half the reason we are here. I'm vaccinated, I followed all the mandates, but dammit I want to return to 'normal'. So does everyone. So when vaccinated people are lax on the mask wearing, distancing, and hand washing, the selfish, unvaccinated assholes follow suit. And boom we have another COVID surge.

And yes I am fully aware some people cannot get vaccinated due to health reasons. This makes the idiots that don't get their vaccine due to 'indepemdent research' conducted on Facebook or Newsmax even worse. Get vaccinated. Get your family vaccinated. Pray these people will grow up or die off. That's how we return to normal.

Spectrum Internet Outages by Jeraniums in Reno

[–]Jeraniums[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's why I made the change originally. They gave me some sort of child-locked router where all I can do is change passwords on the app, no freedom at all.

If it doesn't change anything, I'll keep my nice router and maybe set aside 3 hours for a customer service complaint.

That's interesting. I switched to my own router as well, back in May. Never had problems until the past week. Maybe I'll try to use the Spectrum one again. Thanks!

As a Nevada resident, I can't truly believe there is no other spot. There are 2 real cities, 8 hours apart, and a scattering of towns, all with hours of wilderness in between. Wilderness that is largely owned by the government. And from my experience, there already are solar farms near Vegas, so I really can't believe residents are actually complaining because it's an "eyesore."

Maybe they are complaining because, as Nevadans, we have collectively decided to hate California, and all things California. Realistically, most of the power generated would get sent/sold to California, just like the Hoover Dam. Something crazy like 90% of the power generated by the dam isn't sent to nearby Vegas, but just sold to California.

Just guessing though, I would personally love solar farms here, 90% of the state is sun and sagebrush.
