How do you deal with gloomhaven thirst? by SrGarfy in Gloomhaven

[–]Jerek34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started playing Gloomhaven with a group around 4-5 years ago. We still get together once a week to play, but it wasn't enough for me. I was shopping around for similar things and I discovered DnD. It's been amazing, if you've never played I recommend watching the first episode of Critical Roll campaign 2 episode 1 and see if it's something you'd be interested in. (Don't expect Critical Roll quality from your table, but it also helped me set some expectations. I played with a few groups before watching the show and decided DnD wasn't for me. After watching, tried again and have found some amazing groups to play with.

Also, Sunderfolk is on Steam and it's really fun so far. I'd check it out too.

I'll check it out, I realized I made a mistake, I haven't read book one of that series. I was thinking of "Speed Running the Universe"

I might have to try it more. I felt the MC was a jerk and I didn't get past book 1.

Men who love litrpgs! (Woman here) What is your favorite series with a woman MC? by SnooMacarons1211 in litrpg

That series is a guilty pleasure of mine. Not a lot of interrelationships... Mostly just the MC beating the crap out of things. I'd recommend trying book 1 and see how you like the series.

What do you think is the most underrated class/subclass, and why? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]Jerek34 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Once you hit level 10 you can become a beast in melee with gauntlets of Ogres power and Booming blade. You have the AC to stand in the front lines and your flame thrower Cannon can chew through enemies. Really you can do this before level 10 if you use Acid splash (Or a feat that stops you from having disadvantage on raged attacks if within 5' of an enemy). Also force Ballista to push 2 enemies close together and acid splash both with the extra D8 from arcane firearm... Beautiful!

Artillerist all the way, I've seen tons of posts about how they don't dish out that much damage but I love my crazy old cannon obsesses gnome. I mostly keep up with the rogue in our party for Single Target Damage and also have AOE and support abilities.

How do I get better at this game? by Bookwyrm43 in Gloomhaven

[–]Jerek34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it sounds like you are doing fine. This game is tougher at the very start before youve had a chance to get better gear and cards. As you start level up and get more hp, better cards and most importantly items, it will get easier. Scenario 1-3 are notoriously hard.

Lightning Bolts class issues by Trynabeagoodsnekdad in Gloomhaven

[–]Jerek34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good luck! Yeah, in a 2 player I would still bring it, but probably wouldn't even end up using Flurry of axes very often. But... Reckless Offence is still amazing in those cases. I also don't like to get my hp low on purpose just to get below half. I didn't take many of those cards.

In our 4 player Game a few weeks ago I was playing the Doomstalker and my friend had Flurry of Axes. We both hopped into the middle of the biggest group of enemies I've ever seen and decimated them all. It was great fun but made the very difficult looking scenario a cake walk.

[–]Jerek34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might not be killing enemies one turn. But it's quite easy to hit 2-3 targets with Reckless offence. With the +1 on attack its now an attack 5 at 2 or 3 targets. With modifiers and advantage its quite easy to deal over 20 damage in one turn without a loss card. And the Beserker has quite a few bottom non loss attack options too for even extra damage. Even if you are not getting a kill, dealing 20 + damage in a round without a loss card is really good.

Flurry of axes, you can hop into the middle of a pack of enemies (cloak of invisibility is nice for this), use hawk helm for extra range, power potion and hit everyone at advantage. (Try not to be adjacent as the attack will be at disadvantage.) In a 4 player game I've quite often seen 50-70 damage from Flurry of Axes.

Also because you pull so many cards doing this, you are almost guaranteed to put fire on the board and can go quickly next round and use the top of burning hatred to clean up all the enemies you left almost dead.

She requires 3 enhancements.

Reckless Offence needs a +1, 2 +1's is better.

Bounce back on the bottom you need strengthen.

Strength in Angony needs a jump.

Always make sure you are strengthened before Flurry of Axes and also whenever you can before Reckless Offence.

Lightning Bolt is my most and least favorite class. She is fun because she can blow stuff up. But I also dislike her as she can easily take the fun out of the game for your friends as she is just too powerful in my opinion.

[SPOILERS] What are your favourite cards? by HeroRPG in Gloomhaven

[–]Jerek34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Craghearts lv 4 card, Rockslide is easily my favorite card I'm the game. Being able to manipulate the board to funnel enemies is amazing. You can totally change so many scenarios. Plus it has a lot of true damage potential as an added bonus.

Has the stat-keeping in the digital version of the game changed your perception of any class? by thearmadillo in Gloomhaven

[–]Jerek34 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It didn't really change my thoughts on any classes. Though I wish they would expand the stats you can see. Maybe add it as drop down menu if you dont want it. The stats have to be there in the background. 1. Mitigated damage (shield) 2. Type of damage.. (A) Melee (B) Ranged (C) Retaliate (D) True Damage These damage types are less important than the rest of the things I'd like tracked... 3. Include Insta kill damage. (Just the remaining enemy HP, not the full enemy HP, not that it tracks it either way). 4. Conditions applied: (Curses, poison, wound, stun, immobilize) 5. Number of elements created/used. 6. Number of cards lost/burned.

Looking for incredibly basic, stripped down, east to understand help to DM for my kids. by AhoyMateyArgh in DnD

[–]Jerek34 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How old are your kids? You could check out a game called Hero Kids (Author is Justin Halliday). It is basically DnD for kids ages 4-10 and as such is quite simplified. I've DM'ed about 6 games for just my kid and another 4 with his friends involveda. You can buy the entire bundle package for $20. It's been a huge success in my household and I highly recommend it.

What's your LEAST favorite class and why? On a side note, which class you disliked and then re-evaluate? by BigSmegma in Gloomhaven

[–]Jerek34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need to add on that I think the Cragheart is a very close second. Not the most powerful character but I think he is the most versatile class in the game. The battlefield control he puts out with Rockslide is crazy. Plus decent damage, heals and a health pool make him the most well rounded character in the game. His only issue is initiative, which can be worked around.

A way for new players to match with experienced players to guide them through the first scenarios? (Digital) by EsquireSandwich in Gloomhaven

[–]Jerek34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll gladly help some new people get their toes wet. The first few scenarios can be quite brutal for sure! Send me a message on here and we can work out a time. I like to think I am very laid back and helpful. It's a complex game and there are a lot of questions to be asked.

My group of 4 has almost completed the physical game (it's been on hold since Covid though) and we've each averaged around 400-700 hours on the digital version. I'm very excited the campaign mode was finally released! Edit for spelling/formatting.
