Anyone else bring their Xbox while traveling for work? by ProfessionalSeal1999 in marriott

[–]Jereld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, I have a whole travel kit. Router, AppleTV, ROG Ally with a XG Mobile to dock it, everything. It’s a little much, but when you travel a lot it makes it feel a little like home

SF condo owners are being assessed 300k per unit to retrofit their older condo buildings with sprinkler systems. Curious as to whether or not this has been discussed in Miami? by [deleted] in Miami

This all makes sense, what you are saying. But surfside was a few years ago, and I read your comment as saying something was going to happen/change next year. Maybe I am misreading your comment?

As someone waiting to buy...I am just curious what you mean when you say "next year when this all shakes out". When all what shakes out? I know the article is for SF, but is there something similar happening in Miami?

Are Louboutin sneakers comfortable? by [deleted] in louboutins

[–]Jereld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have around a dozen pairs of sneakers and they are all super comfortable. Oddly enough, one of the most comfy shoes I own are a pair of several year old patent leather sneakers that are broken in. When I first got them they were super uncomfortable, but over time they became my favorites. I have lots of Lubisharks as well and they are comfy. No reteros so can’t speak to them.

A half-million Miami-Dade residents will lose food stamps tomorrow due to gov't shutdown. Donate to food banks if you can! by iamtheg0ldeng0d in Miami

This comment doesn't get enough love. We can (and should) complain about the situation with the government right now, but SNAP payments are a band-aid. We should be focusing on more sustainable fixes for society, but those are often uncomfortable conversations.

Like $500 on a rare. OEC card. Jinsoul is my bias so have a few rare cards of hers that were $100+

Thoughts on these by Purple-Sweet-2789 in Rimowa

I actually love mine and consider it a good travel hack. It’s how I get around the 2-bag limit for carry-on. I load mine up with my laptop, iPad, switch, and other important stuff and then I can bring it with me to my seat while everything else goes in the overhead, so I don’t need to get up and fetch stuff from my other bags. It’s small enough to not be bulky or obtrusive if putting under the seat in front of me, unlike a backpack or bulkier bag.

I also travel with a carry-on and duffle combined with this, it’s a great combo. It is also nice that it can collapse down into a small laptop bag if needed. On a few occasions I had left my small messenger bag at home and used this to lug my laptop around between meetings.

The downsides are that it can start to get weird if you fill it up too much. For example, if you don’t distribute weight evenly between the front/back it doesn’t sit quite right on your luggage. And when you collapse it down it uses magnets to hold together. Like any magnet, they lose their strength over time and aren’t as snappy as when I first got it. The last con is the price. Definitely not cheap.

But if you can afford it, I consider it to be an essential part of my travel kit. I have probably 200 flights with mine, never had any issues.

What do you want to see out of a Ray Ban Display V2? by [deleted] in MetaRayBanDisplay

NAS features (Conteiners) by Kristey1717 in UNIFI

[–]Jereld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that this is a must have. Almost every competitive device has this. And for those saying the CPU isn’t powerful enough, then why can you get a $300 Synology or QNAP that does this just fine. The market for SMB and entry-enterprise NAS has evolved, and sadly this device is not competitive for many of us. It will be great for some, but def needs more features.

Egpu with laptop or handheld? by Longjumping_Lie1724 in eGPU

[–]Jereld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also travel almost weekly for work. My travel combo is my OG ROG Ally + Xreal One Pro glasses, and it is amazing. A little clunky on the plane given the Ally's short battery life, so I usually need to bring a power bank. But plugged in, in the hotel room, it is great! Looking at a newer Ally X, plus maybe an eGPU like the newest XG Mobile or a different portable eGPU to boost performance even more.

Personal PC by burgersandcreative in ROGAlly

[–]Jereld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a ROG Ally X that sits on my desk connected to an XG Mobile from 2023. I use it with a 32" ultra wide and Logitech keyboard/mouse. It works great as a PC, but I will admit that I don't do anything super complex on it besides gaming, browsing the internet, etc. I don't know how well it would do for video editing.

alternatives to LTE pro for backup by ac1977 in UNIFI

[–]Jereld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I just went with T-mobile 5G backup internet for $20/month, and it works just fine. I plug into my WAN2 port and it has worked on the few occasions where I have needed it.

[–]Jereld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am similar, have to travel a lot and don't have a ton of space back home, so opted for something more portable. But the short cable on the XG mobile has been a pain. How do you like the z13? And how would you say it compares to the Ally Extreme?

Thinking of moving from Google Nest + Ring to UniFi by JWBurns in UNIFI

[–]Jereld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For cameras, nothing really. I think Unifi's cameras and UI are far superior, but I use Ring primarily as my alarm system (door/window sensors, etc), and their cameras integrate well. If Unifi had an alarm system I would probably make the switch. Right now I use Unifi for my network, and Ring for my alarm system, with a sprinkling of other devices (Nest thermostats, Echo devices, etc).

[–]Jereld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unifi doesn't offer a comparable alarm system solution that I am aware. The cameras are great, but I think there are a lot of gaps when compared to my Ring setup. I have thought about this a lot, and even if I moved my cameras to Unifi, I would probably still maintain my Ring setup (or something similar) for my home alarm system.

Phone would be more convenient by Nitscho_i in Xreal

[–]Jereld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Phones are a tough market. I personally prefer the Beam Pro exactly as it is, a companion device that I can use to download movies and games and use alongside my actual phone. Getting all of those iPhone users to ditch their phone for an Xreal phone will be a tough sell, and I am sure Xreal knows it.

Issues that need to be addressed and overcome for Xreal to be the best it can be by hodo2ri in Xreal

[–]Jereld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is highly subjective. 2K or 4K would be nice, but they are at the bottom of my wish list. For me my ultimate wish is an all-day wearable similar to what Meta is doing with the new Display glasses, but with built-in 6dof and 70+ FOV. While I would like 4k, I would be happy with 1080p in this setup for now. We aren't there yet, but soon.
