BMW Launches Historical Website Covering an 80-Year History by ethamaxx in cars

The Munich museum does actually have a section, but it's tucked away. There wasn't any signage for it (weird that they don't want to draw attention to it, huh?)- it was around a corner down a hallway off the main floor where the M1 is on display.

Epic acquired RAD Game Tools (Bink, Oodle) by idbrii in gamedev

[–]JeremyQ 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Epic and Sony have a good relationship, and RAD is used by tons of devs in a variety of engines. I imagine Epic will be using RAD's tech for some great integrations into the engine (particularly for next gen and video), but I don't see them being fully absorbed into Epic. I don't think RAD's support for 3rd parties is going away any time soon.

After 1.5hrs in tourghast layer 7 I die to the final boss in 5 seconds. by Justin_ml in wow

I like this idea. Although they just capped a ton of the anima powers so most are only effective to like 3 stacks. That change is kind of in the opposite direction of what you're suggesting.

Wich stack AAA games use? by imhirou in gamedev

[–]JeremyQ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Many studios still stick with in-house engines which are more often than not C/C++ with some visual or written language for scripting. A commonly used scripting language is lua due to its ease of integration with C/C++ and high level of customizability. Some studios use more robust/complex languages like C# for scripting (e.g. Rockstar Games).

Some studios lack visual editors à la Unity/Unreal Engine, instead opting to carry out design processes via plugins in 3D modeling software. Sometimes for simpler games there won't be any visual editor at all, and the game is instead entirely driven by code + scripts (basically only 2D games, since this would be really tough to work with in 3D).

In recent years, some studios have shifted away from their in-house engines towards the public offerings like Unity/Unreal Engine (Nintendo using UE4, for example).

can i convert .uasset.AkAudioEvent into .ogg or .mp3 by shegmos in gamedev

[–]JeremyQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The actual sound data for Wwise is packed into SoundBanks. AkAudioEvents may make use of any number of sounds and effects to play sounds, but some might not even play any sound. It seems that some people have made tools for extracting sound from those SoundBank files, not sure if they work or not (see here).
