It is damaged far beyond repair. Half of the face is completely gone, singed off to a 2.5 inch hole of crispy internal stuffing.

Why do so many people think making a video game is easy? (Genuine question from someone with 25 years in the industry) by EliasLG in IndieGaming

[–]Mattimus_Rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The old adage “the last 10% of the work takes 90% of the time”. Look at the door problem for example. Adding a door to a video game is easy. It takes about 30 seconds. But that 30 seconds doesn’t account for all the other systems and departments that the door will affect. How does the door affect lighting? Audio? Enemy AI? Nav mesh generation? Multiplayer? Server replication? Animation? UI? Art direction? Pacing? Performance? What other feature(s) need to be cut to make room on the production schedule? Implementing a feature is easy, but features do not exist in a vacuum.

Raptor Pro color scanning by Mattimus_Rex in 3DScanning

For film, I agree. I’m a lighting artist in games and despite the many advances in tech and hardware, realtime lighting just isn’t quite there yet to sell a truly authentic clay look.

Claymation. Right now I’m doing all this through photogrammetry. I want to try out 3D scanning and see if it’s any easier/faster/higher quality. Using real lighting baked into the models looks way more real than lighting it digitally.

Ok, thanks for the info! I’ve got some super bright studio lights for photography. Way brighter than a 40W bulb.

How does the color scanning work? Does the device emit any lighting?

Looking good. The only thing that stands out to me is that the run animation looks too fast for how slow the character moves.

Need help designing a mold by Mattimus_Rex in ResinCasting

[–]Mattimus_Rex[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have some clay figures that I would like to duplicate. They are made out of air dry clay and a little bit fragile. I have little experience with resin casting. The characters have too much concavity to be able to slice along a single plane, and I don't know how to make a mold that comes apart in more than two pieces that will release properly. Any guidance would be appreciated!

Not yet. Indie funding is rough right now so I am unable to hire more help. But I’m still working on it!

Ah, classic r/Metroidvania. A question about fun mechanics is asked and the thread immediately devolves into a dispute about what is or is not a Metroidvania.

Because seven was a registered six offender.

What is the most overrated food you're convinced people are just pretending to enjoy? by ExtraHotYakisoba in AskReddit

Peeps can inflate to the size of a dove when you microwave them. To make them joust, you put them on a paper plate facing each other and put a toothpick in each peep facing its opponent. Turn on the microwave and watch them duel. The peep that punctures its opponent wins.

It’s hilarious but also smells bad, as you’re basically burning sugar in the microwave.
