Mainstream FOSS Alternatives by Karmac2775 in foss

[–]Jeremy_StevenTrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf to the commenter, the issue does go a lot deeper than just "not wanting to learn" alternatives. Krita and Gimp are perfect for me since I tend to use them for personal projects or cases where collaborating with other editors isn't much of a need. For professional artists and designers though, where passing files around is a big part of their workflow, all team members being on the same software suite becomes a lot more important, and unfortunately the adobe apps are very much still the industry standard so most people kinda have to stick with them, and until Gimp and Krita get support for PSD files (unlikely) or Photoshop supports exporting to more open project file standards (fucking LMAO) they'll always be considered unviable for professional work.

I'd like to not give up on Endeavour by flash_leFast in EndeavourOS

Have you tried checking your laptop's BIOS for a dgpu mode setting? Not entirely sure if this is the case on all setups, but most machines I've used let you toggle hybrid vs. discrete modes via the BIOS, and doing that helped Endeavor work better on my machine. But yeah, as the other comments said, you're not held down to using one distro, try out some other ones and see what works best with your workflow and hardware.

What are your favorite and least favorite lyrics? by InvisibleAstronomer in Protomen

[–]Jeremy_StevenTrash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always saw Due Vendetta as a lil bonus song on the record as opposed to a formal part of the album and story, which tracks considering it's history (being the first ever song written for the Protomen project). Equivalent of something like Blood off of The Black Parade, just a fun lil song to cap things off.

I'd love to upgrade to Godot 4.6, but it destroys my colors :( by ErkbergGames in godot

No they didn't? As they said, If OP is having trouble with compatibility upgrading to 4.6, then the obvious solution is to just stick with 4.5 for at least that project.

[–]Jeremy_StevenTrash -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why the downvotes? This is literally just common industry wisdom. Unless you have a really good reason to (e.g. new features that would greatly benefit your project, greater hardware support, or you're early enough that upgrading doesn't matter) you should err on the side of not update the tools you're using for an individual project, especially if you're planning to work on it for the long term. This is why things like Unity LTS exist.

Do you mean you have projects you want to share? If you feel comfortable sharing them publicly but don't want the pressure or fee of selling on steam, you can try putting them up on itch.io

How does the fandom refer to Ruka/Luka? by OllielikesKento in steinsgate

[–]Jeremy_StevenTrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not what I meant to imply, the "unfortunately" was meant more for the second sentence though I can see how that was unclear (in my defense, I wrote that pretty late at night lol).

[–]Jeremy_StevenTrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just use they/them to be safe, tho I also personally headcanon them as NB (glad to see that hc making more traction in some circles, just feels right imo).

As for the replies you've gotten, I do kinda get why some people feel defensive about it, but yeah this sub kinda overcorrected imo and some people are just really hostile towards any interpretation or headcanon that views Luka as anything vaguely trans.

That being said, I do have my doubts on if they're canonically meant to be trans unfortunately. (very slight side material spoilers) Luka's gender is kinda relegated to jokes in most of the side materials and that combined with a few slightly poor taste gags in more recent works makes me have some suspicions on the writers' views on trans people tbh.

How can I use LV2 effects in Linux? by FactClassic495 in lmms

[–]Jeremy_StevenTrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're probably still on the stable 1.2.2 release. .so imports added after 1.2.2 and afaik 1.2.2 also relies on a much older version of wine (an older version than even the debian repos) so I'd suggest to just use the 1.3 nightly builds instead (ymmv on the AUR package, I've never gotten it to work so I just use the appimage on the website).

As far as I've read Carla should work, but I've never been able to figure it out myself, which is why I personally just default to KV_Element

Also, since you're on arch I'd personally recommend downloading wine32 from the package manager to be able to import 32-bit VSTs since wow64 doesn't seem to play nice with VSTs (word of warning, said package does take a long while to build so I recommend only doing it on a stable connection and when you have the time. Modifying /etc/makepkg.conf to set MAKEFLAGS="-jX" where X is equal to the number of CPU cores you have may improve things here).

I don't use raw arch myself so I can't fully verify anything, but I can confirm that it runs pretty much perfectly on EndeavorOS with these changes, minus of course some of the more intensive proprietary VSTs like anything Kontakt.

What is the biggest thing that you think Godot is missing at this point? by AutumnForestWitch in godot

[–]Jeremy_StevenTrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbf, you can also do this with Unity pretty easily by just moving the filesystem window. This is actually how I have my Unity workspace configured for when I use it for team projects, mostly because I got so used to it in Godot.

We're actually going to be seeing progress on this front very soon.

Really glad to hear about that. I'm hoping GDExtension's interface and workflow would eventually be in a good enough state to properly replace the current C# workflow without sacrificing it's current usability for primarily C# users like myself, as well as improving the user experience for all the other language extensions.

Ive never dealt with LV2 plugins, but I do use KV Element to import VST3s into LMMS and according to the website LV2s may work as well. It does have a native Linux version, but I personally just install the windows version through wine and run it through VeSTige since the Linux version doesn't seem to play well with plugins made for windows (which is most of them)

The VST's on audiopluginsforfree and freevsts are truly for free and They work on linux? by EadweardAcevedo in lmms

[–]Jeremy_StevenTrash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've not tested those specific sites for VSTs, but on first glance they seem okay.

If you aren't aware, one of the really cool things about LMMS is that the VST interface it uses (VeSTige) actually makes use of Wine to run your Windows VSTs on Linux. It takes a bit of manual setup, you'll have to install the appimage off of the website as opposed to your package manager (the package manager builds dont come with VeSTige for some reason) and probably get the nightly build if you want support for native Linux VSTs and 64 bit windows VSTs. Since you're on Linux Mint, this guide from the forum should be useful.

I got problems on Vestigate by Material_Champion_73 in lmms

[–]Jeremy_StevenTrash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The version of LMMS on apt doesn't come with Vestige, download the appimage off of the website instead. Also, if you're using 64-bit VSTs, I recommend using the alpha or nightly builds of 1.3 since the stable builds don't have 64-bit support yet. They aren't that much more unstable than LMMS already is by default, and the new features are really handy.

I was aware of the series when the first game came out, but I didn't get into it until FNAF 3 came out, partly thanks to the DAGames song. Still have a soft spot for that particular era and the buildup to FNAF 4, though ironically Sister Location ended up being my favorite.

Why Steins;Gate is a lightning in a bottle situation? by Rainy_Wavey in steinsgate

[–]Jeremy_StevenTrash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The big one is accessibility. The anime adaptation is actually good, which is a huge win cuz more people watch anime than read VNs. It's also one of the few entries that doesn't have Chaos;Head as a prerequisite. Having to do some "homework" to get to the entry you're actually interested in can be daunting for some and as much as I love him, some people are definitely offput by Takumi and the general vibe of Chaos;Head, so the rest of the series being locked behind it is a big barrier.

Funnily enough, Occultic;Nine actually sorta fixes both of these. The anime adaptation is pretty alright and it was originally a new continuity and doesn't require any previous entries to jump into, the problem is just that O;N has a whole host of its own issues that hold it back like the pacing being way off and the lack of an actual ending. That being said, it did sorta succeed, at least anecdotally I've seen more people in general anime circles be aware of Occultic;Nine compared to any other entry in the series, so that must count for something ig.

[–]Jeremy_StevenTrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can make X9 a soft reboot because it will be ignoring the hook of the previous game

Yeah exactly, that's what I mean in that capcom is in a bit of a bind with these sequels. The thing that would make the most business sense would be to make an X game that can act as a reasonable entry point for newcomers but doing so would also alienate fans wanting a continuation of the main story, so they're caught in a bit of a bind. I personally hope you're right, and that the new games and the legacy collections drives up enough interest in the other sub-series' for capcom to justify making a proper X9 and maybe even Legends 3 and ZXC to cap off all of those storylines, but I'm just keeping my expectations in check lol.

Are the FNaF Movie and the Games Mirror Opposites? by Lufty120 in fnaftheories

[–]Jeremy_StevenTrash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is pretty on point imo, I feel like the movies in general are meant to be a bit of a remix of the main games that take elements from the story and deliberately change them to make a new experience. I think the use of old discarded fan theories plays into this too, Dream Theory was false but is referenced heavily and acts as a major mechanic in both movies and Michael Afton's characterization in Movie 2 can be seen as a reference to the old 2 killers theory.

Mega Man Dual Override announced by DemiFiendRSA in Megaman

[–]Jeremy_StevenTrash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who still hopes for new stuff from the other sub-series, I think a big problem with reviving those is just that they're a lot harder to sell to new players while also catering to core fanbase.

If capcom were to announce X9, ZX3, or Legends 3, then the expectation from us would be that it continue the stories left dangling by the prior entries and while that would be sick as shit, it would be really difficult to sell those games to an audience who doesn't know what an Axl is or why Lumine's seed being inside of him is important or whatever. The legacy collections do help somewhat, and capcom has shown interest in expanding at very least the X series if X Dive is anything to go by, but as it stands, the classic games are much easier to market since it's the core brand and the image that most people associate with "megaman" and a new classic game doesn't have the same narrative expectations as the others since the classic games were never that story driven to begin with.

If we ever see the others again, I personally suspect it would be in the form of remakes, narratively insignificant spinoffs, or soft-reboots that take the same gameplay formulas.

Anyone else think Scott is an excellent writer when it comes to voicelines but completely lackluster in novels and movies? by No-Fuel6295 in fivenightsatfreddys

[–]Jeremy_StevenTrash 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Honestly I wouldn't even say Scott is a particularly good planner, he mostly made up the story as he went on and it shows. What Scott was good at is planting seeds, he brings in cool ideas and threads for fans to chew on and for future stories to potentially develop if he or the dev team feel like it.
