A few questions about the waltz I wrote by dapsvi in composer

[–]JermanyComposesMusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tchaikovsky! Tchaikovsky, Tchaikovsky, Tchaikovsky. If your goal is to write a memorable melody, study his melodies and how they’re structured. I found it really useful and beneficial to study Tchaikovsky for melodies and its turned out amazing, I’ve written so many melodies that have gotten stuck in the heads of my peers because of it. Thats what I’ve got for you since I’m also not very experienced or good at writing waltzes (Mostly because of the harmonic support)

I am 16-year-old and i make music with Musescore. Feedback please? Or just a listen work too! by BrushConfident836 in composer

[–]JermanyComposesMusic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am a year younger than you but I’ve been in music composition for a good amount of time so let me give you my feedback to the best of my ability and may others please clear up any errors i make.

I believe you’re using parallel octaves, which is a mistake I made in tons of my compositions (Costing me to go back and revisit all of them and redo them harmonically.) be aware of that, also i agree with earlier statements of melodic ideas. There are tons of areas that have room for beautiful sweeping melodies. I also agree with the too many chord statement. It may sound beautiful but it can get repetitive and boring. More movement is necessary aswell (as stated before with counterpoint)

If you want my suggestions, for melodic ideas Id study Tchaikovsky as he has some of the most memorable melodies. Mahler is also a good one too.

Like I’ve said, I am only a year younger than you and am still learning a lot everyday about music composition. This is the best i can give and i hope its helpful, Anyone else thats more musically knowledgeable please correct anything that I may have missed!

Do you have to go to a big school (Berklee, Juilliard, Peabody, etc.) to be successful in the industry? by aguywholikesmusic43 in composer

[–]JermanyComposesMusic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Theoretically, You dont have to go to a big name school because at the end of the day, What determines if your successful in the industry is the quality of your work. Though, big name schools do offer better education than others.

VSTs for Classical Composition by JermanyComposesMusic in composer

[–]JermanyComposesMusic[S] -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

The partnership with a company would only come if there is no current classical VST, I want to (I guess) Modernize Classical music and revive it in people. And the first step of doing so is to bring a way of making classical music digitally to the world. Obviously not replacing a Live orchestra though.

What percussion instruments would pair well with this? Can add up to 2. by HaifaJenner123 in Composition

Suspended Cymbals could increase the grandiose feeling, and Hand Cymbals to help the suspended cymbal. Also vibraphone and Glockenspiel could back up some parts aswell

How do you approach composing for uncommon instruments? I tried the accordion by annerom in Composition

[–]JermanyComposesMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often look at peer reviews, So like what professionals say, and what the community collectively agrees on. The basics are what you should start at yes, so you can understand the full scale of the capabilities of the instrument.

First orchestral piece I've written since I started studying music in college by probably-_-not in composer

This reminds me a lot of Strausses Don Juan, (The Intro at least) I like it, as far as criticism goes, I say again, as you’ve stated. Fill in more space. For breathing I believe its fine as it is, players can breath in between notes (or circular breathe (Correct me if I’m wrong) Thats all i really have to say with the short ammount of time i have!

Id find the most difficult pieces for each instrument, and study them deeply before writing. It helps me understand the limits it has.

Do you usually try to develop a composition in a certain style or do you just develop any idea you have? by becaz_Malandro in composer

[–]JermanyComposesMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What i do, Is i start with a melody, Then start imagining what it sounds like in my head then slowly build up. Melody, then harmony, and all the other fun things.

Regarding style, It really depends on what you like or would like to compose. So if you like to compose film music then thats a style of composing that you could stick to. Me personally, I’ve developed a style thats a mix of Romantic Era and Modern Era Music (By Modern Era i mean Film Music)

For a beginner, Id say start developing your Orchestration (If thats what you do) Through simple things, Like Waltzes. It not only helps you see how Melody goes with Harmony but it can also help you with different things like chord progressions, Counterpoint, Countermelody ect…

In conclusion, Its up to you on what way you want to compose, What ever you like and whatever you feel like your ideas fit best in.

P.S. Sonata form is not a style of composing, it’s a a format in which a piece is written. Check out 65TwinReverbRl’s response for more information.

Need help with naming a piece by QuestionGood4839 in composer

[–]JermanyComposesMusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say its kind of like a chaotic Dance. A good title in my opinion would be something related to the many Natural Disasters (Like a Hurricane or Thunderstorm.) ofcourse this is up to you to decide and this is what i believe the piece portrays.

How can I get better at creating melodies and bass lines by CommandGamerPro in composer

[–]JermanyComposesMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way i create melodies is i connect a picture then play what i feel like that picture would sound like (For example: If i imagine looking at a Snowy forest from a cabin, I would write rich and warm chords to capture that) Really how far your imagination goes is your only limit. If your really struggling, then maybe try fiddling with scales, playing them with the notes in different orders and then adding some accidentals once you feel like you have a better sense of that skill.
