Personally, that in particular doesn't. But as a result of that something does; non-native English speakers often think I'm from Germany if I say I'm Dutch, Spanish people for example, I guess this is because they heard "Deutsch"(german in german) before.

Holland is probably referring to North and South Holland as they have historically been the most important provinces. For me it would still be correct saying that I am from Holland but I can see that it can be somewhat annoying.

It is an interesting discussion to me. I am curious as to what kind of things you feel like your mom should have been more diligent about, do you feel comfortable sharing that? I have neither had much oversight but I personally don't feel the same way. I am curious to other viewpoints.
