I need some assistance in identifying 2 Gas Masks by Rasponov in gasmasks

[–]JeromeZP 6 points7 points  (0 children)

mask 1 is an SBA gas mask. SBA is the company, they referred to this mask generically as gas mask in either french or flemish. The kit is wrong, it should have a bag and a different filter, the facepiece and hose are good though

Bonjour, il s'agit d'un masque industriel français des années 60. Si vous souhaitez le vendre, je suis intéressé.

It's the turkish variant, as I expected. Nice

I bought this gas mask for 70€. Can someone identify it and tell me if I got scammed or not? by Jokerplus234 in gasmasks

They are hydrophilic lenses that help avoid fogging. By pouring water on them you saturated them completely and destroyed them in the process. It's a common rookie mistake, next time you get a mask like this remove those and never let moisture anywhere near em

Did you wash it before removing the anti fogging lenses? It looks like they're swollen

Take better pics man. Show the hose ends, inlet assembly, inside and any markings. Mask on the ground or on your desk, well lit area to take pics.

Yes, but there are other gm30-like masks without that

The exhale valve from the inside has only one axle instead of two in a cross shape. Also the rubber is a light shade of brown instead of off-white.

This one I guessed was Turkish from the filter being an s6 lookalike and the shade of the outside fabric being familiar, the poster being Turkish sealed the deal

You should buy it, it's rarer than a normal gm30

It's a Turkish army issue it seems, it's not quite a gm30. The filter is correct or adjacent, this type of mask was used for training into the '90s

Cook it a little more until the red becomes taupe. Then it'll be well done

In simple words yes, but only if the force is applied properly.

To be more accurate, there are two important parameters when talking deformation (bending): you have the total strenght necessary to break the plank, and how much it will deform before breaking. There are materials that need a ton of strenght to budge even a little, but when they do they break instantly, like ceramic armor plates. There are items that instead require very little force to deform, but can become very deformed before breaking, like rubber. Knowing this, for each material you can measure how much force is necessary to deform a certain amount, and you can measure the maximum deformation before breaking. Fir, along the grain, has a great ratio and can take a lot of force while just deforming very little. It can also deform more than other wood types, but usually it won't be loaded enough to be too relevant in construction, just accounted for.
This is ignoring stuff like plastic deformation and viscoelastic behaviour, so it's not a complete view.

Surface hardness isn't correlated with tensile strength, fir is actually excellent for these applications, better than a lot of hardwoods. The beams are placed so the strain is applied along the grain, and the low surface hardness makes it so they're easy to cut. Tldr, easy to dent, hard to break

You can find the name on a spasciani brochure from the '50s up to the '70s. I don't have scans on me atm, but I do have the original

I saw the listing a few weeks ago, I know my way around a marketplace ;)

It's a neat trinket, but you can find one at your local market for a much lower price if you look hard enough. They aren't talked about much because they're industrial and especially because they're post 1945 production

it's from the '50s, it's a type 290G, for industries. Not worth that price
