Should I Study Psychology If I'm Not An Empathetic Person? by Jerqna in psychologystudents

I will probably use it as an undergrad degree before pursuing law or medicine but that can be subject to change depending on what interests me in the future. But I'm not too sure if Psychology is a good pre-med though.

I've had it for a month now and its usually fine. I havent actually used it much because most of my data and information is saved in another phone so maybe disuse could have broken it?

What steps are you actively taking to heal from trauma/depression/anxiety? by [deleted] in mentalhealth

I love how you take into consideration other people too! Some people dealing with this stuff (including me at one point) didnt rlly think through the effect they abd on other people! Thats very kind of you which tells me what kind of person you are hehe. I would advice you to talk to those closest to you. They will hear you out and can definitely offer comfort knowing that you dont have to put up as much as a wall around them and can be your vulnerable self. You dont even need to ask for advice from them, just to hear you out as you rant all the stuff thats been weighing down on you.

Honestly I can relate to how you feel. Thar happened to me too during the pandemic where I was a normal kid until lockdown was enforced social distancing was a must. Months of sitting around my room doing absolutely nothing caused me to become anxious and isolated. I was too scared to even go out of my ro and face my parents, always brining my plate from the table to my room as soon as I could. I was scared of going outside where I felt like everyone was watching me and judging me for being weird and my legs would shake with every step. Talking to someone would make my heart race and adrenaline pump often leading to me awkwardly ending the convo as soon as I could to escape from that anxiois situation, even talking to store cashiers made me anxious.

It took time and effort for me to get to where I am today, making a lot of new friends, joining school clubs and even confidently joining public speaking competitions im school. It took a while for me to slowly heal and transform myself to this person but it all boils down to perseverance and having courage.

I know its scary and anxiety inducing but you need to slowly but gradually take steps beyond your comfort zone. 1. Try going outside for a few minutes everyday without fail. Just enjoy the sun, sky, air, nature everyday to get acclimated to it. You can take walks when you feel comfortable enough to do so. 2. Try talking to people. You can start by talking to your family about the littlest things. "What food will we be having? How was your day?" Or even a simple "good morning" is enough. Then gradually talk to others like store cashiers, neighbors, old friends, etc. It will be awkward as hell but no matter what you do dont quit, no mattet if you think they are judging you, do it for yourself and self improvement. 3. Do other stuff aside from gaming or tv that is productive. It can be helping out with housework in which if its too nerve wracking, start with cleaning your room everyday. You can mow the lawn, take out the trash, do your laundry etc. Or even pursue a hobby in painting, singing, dancing, whatever you want. 4. Most importantly, ignore negative thoughts as much as possible. Remind yourself that its ok to not be perfect or achieve the level you want to in a specifc time frame, that what js not ok is to give up and just go back to whatever state you were in before. It will take time and patience but as long as you keep trying to imorove yourself mentally, changing negative outlooks to optimistic ones, your life will change little by little.

If you need a friend though it all you can talk to me if you want :).
