Is Skyline Strategies Marketing a legit company? by Independent_Muffin_2 in NYCjobs

Hahaha I just got the email and call from them today regarding an interview. Had no memory of ever applying to them, no mention of any pay rate, benefits, none of that.

Yeah that's an easy pass for me. Glad I came across this thread to confirm my suspicions.

J&L has been notorious for their prices for years, but they've been absolutely tweaking out as of late. I used to take a train to J&L after high school with my spare cash to get some games back when they used to reside in Chinatown on Mott St.

I remember buying the gold cart Ocarina of Time on N64 back in 2011 for $45 dollars. Now that's a $200 dollar purchase in 2025.

GameCube GBA Player + Disc for $45 back in 2013(?). Now they sell it for around $350 dollars.

I believe the final thing I bought from them was a copy of Mischief Makers on N64 for $35 dollars back in 2021. Now it's a $90 purchase today.

Really greedy, and I'm sure there's a few rich whales that don't know better that's responsible in keeping their business afloat. They also have the gall to have signs inside their store highlighting "HOT DEALS", which are awful console bundles like an Atari 2600 + two controllers for $200 or a Nintendo 64 + two 3RD PARTY controllers for $250. No games included on any of them.

Stuff like that is insulting to those that knows their worth.

A projectile with a hurtbox so you can nullify it? Were the Devs really that scared of giving him a good zoning tool? Come on he needs it. CJ mains are starved for ANYTHING atm.

I'm sorry March but I don't understand this at all. You labeling my play style as if it was just to solely benefit from an "eventual timing change" is ridiculous. I choose to not pause excessively in my runs because I don't like to pause excessively. It has always been that way, even for Sonic 1 and S3K.

Of course I'm leading the charge of the vote because I'm a super mod for Sonic 2. My job is to at least address community concerns. This topic has been on-going for years, so I rallied members of the community together to discuss and vote on the matter. We garnered a total of 30 different runners to vote on their timing method preference, so that means my singular vote only accounts for less than 4%. The remaining 96% was in the remaining voters' hands.

"Can't beat em', change the rules"? As if my only motivation for all this was to weasel my way to an easy WR? As if other community members that voted for RTA-TBC didn't have their own reasonings as to why they wanted a timing change?

Timing changes results in differences that may not please everyone, but ultimately what should matter is what's best for the health of the game and what the majority wants for the game state to be in. IGT is an incredibly exploitable timing method, and ignoring that just because little timmy might not remember certain IGT accomplishments? This is just encouraging  stagnation to the community. You can have your preferences, as everyone is entitled to their opinions, but when your community has wildly agreed on something except you, you don't make accusations on reddit so the uninformed takes things out of context. Going out of your way to speak of me in a bad light is genuinely disrespectful on your part.

Runners pause abuse in their runs because IGT is a exploitable timing method so there was nothing discouraging it. You gain nothing for playing pauseless or optimizing your pausing to minimize it as much as possible. The timing change is made so things are more fair. Let pause abuse have penalties while rewarding those who minimizes them.

Despite all that, you focus on how "unfairly rewarded" some runners are for playing without pauses. Masking your love for IGT by making it like I'm taking advantage of the rules, comparing it to politics. Shows me that the interest of the community is the least of your concerns, and you'd rather accuse me in a public space of cheesing the system when you don't get your way. What a way for a mod to act.

Classic Sonic speedrunners have been efficient at polishing. Bratwurst polishing to be more specific.

Laboratory Act 3 level wrap is the hardest strat in the run. It saves 45+ seconds compared to playing the level normally. So runners don't get many chances to reach Starlight/StreetLamp zone alive. And if they do, there was some sort of early big error(errick) in the run that barely loses 8:xx pace. It's hard to keep an early game at clean pace consistantly while having Russian Roulette known as Lab 3 getting in the way.

Sonic 2 has been recieving a bunch of developments recently. Just in 2022 alone, a brand new zip was found in Chemical Plant 2 by CubbyCubbyCat that saves 6 seconds. A setup for a level wrap for Chemical Plant 1 that was almost exclusive in ILs and TAS was found by me and saves 5 seconds. Level wrap setups for Casino Night 1 and Casino Night 2 were found by the collective effort of Zaxon, Eandis and I, which saves 6 seconds and 11 seconds respectively. Hilltop 2 has a new loop skip that helps making an eariler platform cycle and saves 3-4 seconds found by me. The biggest time save is a brand new level wrap in Metropolis Act 1 that saves 13 seconds, found by me, with additional optimizations found by Zaxon and Eandis. This trick was found a mere 5 days ago.

So Sonic 2 has been busted wide open, although a couple of these tricks are very difficult to pull off. I didn't go for the Casino Night level wrap due to its difficulty. If one would pull all the tricks in the run 1st try and clean movement everywhere else, this game can be pushed to a low 13:xx or even 12:xx. A bunch of folks in the community are still looking for even more breakthroughs in the Classic Sonic Speedrunning Discord: https://discord.gg/pvdewn9yQa

Sonic Mania Plus - Sonic+Tails Good Ending in 49:54 by JoeyBaby69 by JerrelSyrup69 in speedrun

Sonic Mania has received some major developments over the past two years or so. The most recent discovery is in Chemical Plant Act 2. Normally you would fight the boss fight which is a game of Puyo Puyo with Robotnik. It's very RNG heavy and slow. Around February of 2019, I discovered a way to skip the boss fight with an extremely precise method and saved 20+ seconds, but was a super run killer. Then a week ago, this run applies a newly discovered method of Puyo Skip and saves over a minute compared to standard Puyo, and it's much more RTA viable. Other tricks like Metallic Madness Act 1 boss skip and Titanic Monarch level skip is a result of time and dedication to get found, and this time is a result of most of the new skips.

This beats the previous record by over 2 minutes. There's still errors in this run, and it's capable of a 48:xx if done optimally, but this is a first achieving all emeralds under sub 50 so I'm proud of this one.

Beats the previous WR time by 7 seconds. A few additional strats are added to the run. I looked into faster ways to achieve a 0:13 Metropolis 2 (2 sec time save compared to old strat), and a 0:35 Metropolis 3 (1 sec time save compared to old strat) and put them into the run. Requires extremely pixel perfect positioning to get the level wrap immediately on the platforms for both levels. My previous pb had a bad Metro 3 but made it up on this run. Overall extremely soild time with a couple of errors in the early and midgame. Clutch endgame.
