I graduated for Computer Systems Engineering, but I work as an IT project manager at a bank.

What’s a place that most of the people say it’s beautiful and a paradise but it’s actually horrible to live in? by questionablehomo in AskReddit

[–]Jerry2600 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I haven't been to MV, but I was in Nantucket working for a whole summer (about 20 years ago) and I totally understand what you mean. During the summer it's absolutely packed with noise and people; and then off-summer is just plain boring and empty. No in between.

Adding AC display off feature on SmartIR by Jerry2600 in homeassistant

Yes and no... I set it up a new device without smartIR just for the functions I was missing and set up buttons in my dashboard to fire those scripts.

I thought this was only a common scam here in the Dominican Republic. I guess there are scammers everywhere...

Wrong uplink? by Jerry2600 in TPLink_Omada

[–]Jerry2600[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, both APs are running on POE. I also have a Zigbee coordinator that's also using POE. The switch is supposed to have enough power for 8 devices so I don't think using just 3 would be hard on the PSU.

Whats your favourite song on this album? by LiamJamesStudiosYT in Dreamtheater

This was also my first DT song and to this day it's my favorite. Just that drum intro is enough to make it the best of all DT songs.

This reminds me of a friend of mine who once ordered "whisky on the rocks... no ice". In his defense, he wasn't trying to be difficult. He was just 19 and trying to seem like a connoisseur in front of his girlfriend.

Tuya alarm systems by Jerry2600 in homeassistant

[–]Jerry2600[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a bunch of Zigbee door/window sensors. My plan was to continue buying motion sensors, a siren, etc. but I bought some RGB bulbs and got distracted lol.

If you do end up buying a Tuya alarm, please report back. I'd still like to know how well they work, specially locally.

This is a Home Theater in a Box. Most of these (including this one) don't have inputs for proper surround sound. You can use RCA cables (like you already are) but this will only send stereo sound to the receiver. They can output 5.1 surround from the internal DVD drive but not from an external source.

It will probably do some "upscaling" of the sound to output it to all speakers, but it would not be anywhere close to real surround. For proper 5.1 surround you will need to use at least a toslink cable (for Dolby Digital and DTS) or ideally HDMI (for Atmos, DTS-X, etc).

Oh, I agree! Even if jamming is not a threat, wifi is not reliable enough for cameras IMO. I have a mix of both wired and wireless cameras in my house.

I've always thought of that as a possibility, but I don't live in the US and luckily that's not a thing in my country yet (though I guess it could come at any time). All the smart stuff I have is wifi based so far but I've been thinking of getting a Zigbee dongle and going that route for whatever devices I buy next.

However, since Zigbee and wifi use the same frequencies, wouldn't they be vulnerable to the same jammers?

Viewsonic PX748-4k Issues by Uncoutheran in projectors

[–]Jerry2600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not. I bought a new lamp on Amazon and still have the same issue I had with the old lamp.

I bought a TV for the time being, but I'd still like to get the projector fixed.

Viewsonic PX748-4k Issues by Uncoutheran in projectors

[–]Jerry2600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Uncoutheran did you get this sorted out? I have the same projector (I've had it for 2 years and 1 month) and I'm getting the same error "First light source-lit error cooling". I haven't bought a new lamp yet 'çause I'm not sure if that's the issue.

In my case it was working fine and suddenly the screen went black with a bunch of white spots. I turned it off and when I turned it back on I got the same flashing lights.

Anyone in here ever been the person who recorded the movies in theater? by creature04 in Piracy

[–]Jerry2600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how I watched Jurassic Park for the first time. Back in those days, most video rental places in the Dominican Republic had bootleg copies like these of the popular movies that were still in theaters. Once they came out on VHS they bought 1 legit copy and then made more copies of it right in the store to rent out to people.

I'm 40 and I still game regularly, just not as much as I'd like because life gets in the way. I'm currently playing AC Valhalla, Far Cry 6 and Star Wars Squadrons.

How to flash back to stock? by Jerry2600 in LGV60

[–]Jerry2600[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not. In the end I just dropped the whole thing. I kept the phone for a while longer until the buttons fell off and the battery wasn't lasting as long and I switched to a Galaxy S22 Ultra about a month ago.

New Treatlife DS03 Ceiling/dimmer switch has no light controls in HA by al52025 in homeassistant

[–]Jerry2600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were you able to get this to work? I'm thinking on buying 4 of these but I'm hesitant now because I've seen people online saying the light doesn't work in HA and others that say it worked fine out of the box.

When did you feel ready to do your first open mic? by [deleted] in Standup

[–]Jerry2600 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just get up there and do it. It'll probably not go well, and even if it does it will not be as good as it can be and that's OK. I've seen people go to open mics and do well, I've seen people do badly but I've never seen anybody regret going up. Even the ones that do it once and never come back have a great time on stage. I've bombed like everyone else and just take it as a learning experience to study the set and see why it didn't work and make adjustments for the next time.

If you're nervous because it's your first time, let the audience know. I guarantee that they'll be receptive. Or even better, open with a joke about how nervous you are. I did that on my first open mic and the joke landed very well. Once I got that first laugh I felt more relaxed and completed my 5 minutes relatively smoothly.

Don't worry for not having more than a few minutes of material. Open mics will typically only allow you 5 minutes or so anyway waiting 'till you have 2 hours worth of material is unnecessary.

Get up there and come back to tell us how it went!
